I really need to get this one next time around. You guys that love it, really love it! I’m going to whisper myself a wish list.
Slightly tangential, but I’ve noticed that several other members here also smoke a pipe. If you like the flavor of cloves, you really should try Gawith & Hoggarth’s Bosun Cut Plug, a virginia flake flavored with clove oil. Its an interesting, and quite tasty, experience. It does leave a residual flavor in a briar, however, so you might want to try it out in a meerschaum or a cob to make sure you like it. Now that I think of it, I wonder how this would do ground up as a snuff… I might have to try that at some point.
Ok I have it. Good gravy! This is a wonderful snuff! It is now off the wish list and on the the “keep ample supply on hand” list
McChrystals really does make a nice product.
@Tom Is the clove snuff available in the 200g jars like O&G? I got this one with my last order and it’s certainly one of my favorites of all time.
Yes, I can get it. Special order though. Tom
Not to jump OT but its a simple thing to sprinkle clove powder into any snuff. Just go very easy with it since it is so powerful. I was recently surprised to find G&H Dr. Verys Full had clove in it. To me it tastes like chocolate and clove or maybe even pumpkin pie with clove added to it. In any case, I’ve made several clove concotions using pure clove powder including an awesome Christmas mix of Toque - Peppermint, St. Clements, Menthol, (and if you’re really brave, toss in some Molens A/P for that pine needle Chrsitmas tree effect.)
Sprinkle clove powder into snuff ? I would like to think that the clove scent in clove-scented snuff is more than just added clove powder, and I don’t think I would want to snort straight clove powder. If it is in fact that simple, then I may sprinkle a little cinnimon into some Toque Natural, or maybe a little chili powder (
I’ve used clove powder many times in snuff. It only takes the tiniest amount tho to get the flavor so you’re not really ingesting that much. Chili powder? I’m not brave enough to try that.
I was making pancakes a few days ago and adding cinnamon. As I was dosing it, it reminded me of snuff, so I said “why not” and took a pinch and snuffed it. It wasn’t bad and I’m still lliving to write this. It itched a bit after a few minutes, so I just blew my nose as I normally would. I guess I’ll have to try clove powder next.
Ian at McChrystal’s is a real gent when it comes to getting clove snuff to people who want it. I love this stuff and would love to use it all the time but it does get overpowering after a while.
cayenne mixed with water will clear you out really thourghly.
I introduced my GF to Mc Clove this weekend. She loves it. I think she wants to steal my tin!
I’ve been wanting to try the McChrystal’s Clove…so much so I made my own clove snuff while I was waiting for it. I was afraid I had made my own snuff a little too strong, and then the McChrystal’s Clove arrived. Wow! My intense little creation was nothing compared to the McChrystal’s.
I love cloves…and I see why people say that “if you love cloves, you’ll love McChrystal’s clove snuff.” It is intensely clove. That’s it. All about the clove, and it is like a little bit of clove-tough-love. It gives you a punch and a burn, and then that scent stays with you quite some time.
Very nice.

Whoa Mark, dug up an old one! I like it! Intensely clove is right - I don’t smell anything but. I’m tempted to cook with it hah. When I was brand new to snuff I got this one, and not knowing any better, put some in my only snuffhouse tap box. Put it through the dishwasher, and the scent remains. I have a stinky job, and this is what I take to work. If only it wasn’t healthcare… I’d love to offer some to my coworkers. Good stuff!
I like digging up older posts on a topic, rather than starting new ones. Just continues the conversation. :-)
When I opened the little McCrystal’s tin it looked and smelled like they just filled it up with powdered cloves!
I can totally believe this would ghost any snuffbox you put it in…
Mark
Tired this yesterday - love both the burn and the intensity of the Clove. I’ve made sure that it’s been my last pinch of the day (of mixed with my last pinch of the day) though, due to the power of its long legs.
