Frederick Tranter: no more

I just heard about 5 minutes ago that Frederick Tranter has been discontinued. We all knew it was Wilsons anyway, but still they had some interesting names for the various flavors. If any of you have a favorite let me know and I will give you the Wilsons equivalent.

Meanwhile, if you are a collector, better get them while you can. Here’s a link if you are interested:  https://mrsnuff.com/store/frederick-tranter-c-100\_156.html

Dave

My stomach just landed in my shoes.  I’ve been waiting for a restock of Cotswold for some time.  I only have a couple of pinches left and this is one of my favorite snuffs.  I’m not familiar with a Wilson’s equivalent for Cotswold but I would love to be corrected.  This is the curse of being a tobacco enthusiast; when you find something you love, it is either impossible to find or discontinued.

Cotswold is the only one I’ve tried, but it’s marvelous. Like Mr. Nose, I’d sure like to know if there’s a WOS equivalent.

Has Tranters gone as well? They were very cute, kiosk like shops. There were a few decent snuffs that did not have a more or less common counterpart at Wilson’s, the strong, pitch black latakia being one.

Sad news indeed. Will treasure what little I have left.

Curious - there’s no mention of it on the Tranter’s web site, though the toasts haven’t been listed there for some time.

Curiouser and curiouser as Alice said. Did you hear this story from the new management at Frederick Tranter? If so then the management do not communicate well with their Bath and Oxbridge shops as this is the first they have heard of it. (I telephoned today and those I spoke to were unaware that the lines were to be discontinued.)

why would they know?

Well, they would have to know at some point as they are the ones that sell it.

@PhilipS They’d be the last to know if company folds or anything dramatic happens.

They are still going to sell snuff just under the Wilsons label since Wilsons makes it anyway. That what I was told by the sales guy at least.

That is slightly different.

yeah an edit would be nice in the title.

@mr.snuff:  not to keep beating a dead horse, but does this mean I can expect to see Cotswold with a Wilson’s label?

Good thing I never tried it, now I won’t know what I am missing out on.

Cotswold is pretty much fancy Strasbourg with less citric notes

Aw snap, I’m keen on their Regency, but can’t see any on Mr Snuff to stock up with.

The thing is there are Wilsons equivalents for every flavor of Freddy T. They will simply be selling Wilsons instead. Whether or not they will brand it with their “flavors” is open to question. That I do not know. However when I tried to buy the Freddy T labelled tins I was told that they are no longer being made.

The Wilsons equivalents have always been available. For example Cotswold is just Strasbourg asTomStrasbourg more or less says. My understanding is they are one and the same; perhaps there are batch differences but there are no recipe differences. This is not uncommon. You see it with G Smith and sons; Jaxons etc. They are simply rebranded, existing, big manufacturer snuffs. Perhaps the rebranding primes our brains to detect a diference?

So all of them will be “covered”, then? So one need not add  the appealing ones to thier cart? Is there some sort of chart or list, about the equivalent flavors?

look and expectation effect flavors.
