Frederick Tranter: no more

Interesting.  Which is the WoS equivalent for Regency?

what about the light mint and glacier ??

If the name isn’t on the tin, then the name does not exist, so the thread title is accurate.

Our contact at Wilsons confirmed that the Frederick Tranter line is no more. Like Mr. Snuff pointed out, the Tranter line is just a brand name. All of the flavors are still available under the Wilsons line. Wilsons had been keeping the Tranter name alive out of nostalgia, but it’s no longer economically feasible for them to continue doing so.

Also: yes, Cotswald and Strasbourg are exactly the same. They’re the same recipe made on the same production line. One goes in a Wilsons tin and the other goes in the Freddy T tin. As far as I know all the Tranter snuffs are/were re-labeled Wilsons flavors.

FT IHT#22 and WoS IHT#22 are clearly NOT the same stuff.  I have both side by side with me right now and they aren’t even the same colour or grind (the WoS version is slightly finer grind and the FT version has little flecks in it) and the WoS version has more flavour to my nose.

WoS snuffs are usually duplicated somewhere else in their various guises and I have certainly been sent one when I had ordered the other, if you see what I mean. I can sometimes blind test someone on the same snuff btw so don’t rely on your senses too much.

Sad news. I really like the 29 Special. I’ve always only taken small pinches of it, so I have enough to last me for a while yet.

Yep, I had to work in Oxford on Saturday, and made time to find the store there. According to the helpful guy there they are now known as Havana House, but still offer Frederick Tranter snuffs - they had boxes full of the tins. He said they didn’t sell a lot of it, but the fact that they had none on display in the window nor inside the shop, just the boxes hidden down on a low shelf behind the counter, with a list proffered when I asked about snuff probably doesn’t help - a “what are those tins” moment could lead to a lot more sales if they had them on display. I was wary about buying as I know they’re ‘rebadged’ Wilson’s snuffs, so I got the Lemon and Thyme as it was clear what that was scented with, along with Grand Cairo (as I don’t have the WoS version I knew I was on safe ground) and Princes, the scent of which was described on the list as ‘None’, though when I take a pinch my nose says Brunswick. It’s not as moist as my tin of Brunswick, though this may be explained by the bubbles of rust on the outside of the tin. :)) Would’ve bought more if I’d could’ve been sure they were ones I didn’t already have.

I posted this somewhere else a while back, but maybe it will useful if I post it again.
