Removed. It’s good to sometimes have the other angle pointed out; a post made without too much thought as a joke can be offensive, but the poster not really see it that way at the time, just shows we all need to be aware of what we do.
Thanks, you’re a gent, Martin
No problem, thanks for having the bottle to bring it up. I would hate to cause offence to anyone and my wit (if it can be called that) is fairly sledgehammer! You just don’t think sometimes…
Don’t worry, we all do it from time to time. If I watch your back hopefully you’ll watch mine, us mods have got to stick together!
Sure thing Martin, I agree with the concept of setting an example on the site and that our standards of behaviour have to be beyond reproach. Nigel
It seems Snuffbox still feels he was correct in just zapping that thread with out first talking about it on here first. Heres two parographs from an email I just received from him:-_I was rather surprised at the lack of support for my viewpoint, especially since other people had said that they also favor a family atmosphere. However, only justplaindave stood up and said anything at all. And it made me rather ill to see the sharks gathering like a pack of hyenas. You couldn’t get all those people together to do anything positive, but when it comes to mudslinging it was all hands on deck. Really a nasty business. And the bottom line is I don’t care to have that kind of content in my home. I had a very pleasant conversation with Alex on the topic, but I feel he made a mistake by listening to that motley crue rather than just telling them bad conduct was unwelcome in his forum. So I haven’t been back. I told Alex if things get out of hand and he wants some help putting the animals back in their cages I’ll lend a hand. Until then…_I find it a little disturbing that he reckons his own views should take priority over all others!
I wonder if he considers me one the people that agrees with him. He whispered to me after several of my comments. I kind of agreed just to not make waves. Truthfully, I started second guessing every comment I wrote and started to feel like I had someone looking over my shoulder. If the tide had went the other way, I probably would have just lurked or gone away completely. I never use foul language or say anything with too much sexual content, just a little fun, “innuendo” SB told me my comments were “mild” but would “feed the beast” I think a forum like this should try to appeal to as many people as possible and I think a majority wouldn’t want this forum to be too “family”. Of course, the final say is with Alex.
Well, there you go, that’s the attitude that got him into the situation he currently finds himself in. I know I kind of stood up for him but I am glad he’s exiled himself really. Outside I won’t say a word against him but here, where only us moderators can see, I will say I think the bloke is a plonker.
Again with the “plonker”!! : )
Present company not included, I am surrounded by plonkers!
For you, Mark from Miami Plonker
Funny! 7 different meanings. I’m surprised I never heard that when I worked on ships. I was even known to utter “bullocks” and “cheers” once in a while. Of course when i wasn’t working I mostly got pissed and smoked faggs with my mates. Bloody 'ell!
I’m sure there’s lots of things said in America I wouldn’t have heard about either. Like I said, I think plonker is a London thing. Edited for spelling.
At one time I could meet a new staff member and tell (basically) what part of England they were from, by their accent. I tried again recently and guessed London, the guy was an Aussie! Pretty embarrassing! I guessed I lost my touch after all these years…
Not an uncommon mistake, having said that, there’s so may Aussies in London now I have trouble telling them apart as well!
Me and my girlfriend left the ships and spent a year in Nottingham (her hometown) together. Well… actually it was only four days, it just seemed like a year!
I’ve heard Nottingham is a bit of a toilet. We have a saying “It’s grim up north.” That’s a pretty wide definition for me as that’s anything north of the Thames as far as I’m concerned.
Ive just got back from Burnley in lancashire. I can confirm its grim, getting back to Londinium was a bit of a relief. My wife and son dropped me off in Manchester one night so I could go to a gig. They intended to have a meal and do some shopping and meet me afterwards. They ended up buying tickets from a tout as the whole of the centre was closed. Maybe the war is still on? Sorry to any current Northeners ( I was born and bred there) but it is grim. I think I missed this whole snuffbox thing, I remember not being on the site for a few days due to a heavy workload and when I logged back on I found I was a mod and snuffbox had started to be a problem.
He mixed up moderation with censorship why I assigned him to a standard member role. After that he said I should please deactivate his account, what I did.
Ah well, just life I suppose…
