Sternecker's

Thanks Saucy_jack, you’re convincing me! would you also call the straubringer a plain one too? The only german one I’ve had so far (after reading a few comments by LHB convinced me and I really like it) is Bernardo’s F-something “Krownoer” (it even works nicely in a bullet which I really wasn’t expecting it would)

@whistlrr: i would not call it plain, though it is a bit on the plainer side for all the Schmalzlers I’ve partaken of.

@saucy_jack: Since I do like the Bernard’s course grind and the sweet maple and fruit undertone which Sternecker would I be more apt to enjoy Echt Fresko or the Straubinger. My biggest complaint with Bernard’s is the little 10g container which last about 2 days for me if I hit it like I want to.

I don’t think Feinster Kownoer is a schmalzler… The Sternecker’s are very plain all of them, almost disappointingly so. Good thing they are made with strong tobacco. I just picked up all three so I’m still in the sampling phase not quite ready to review and comment on the “depth”. edit- OK wait wait wait… I just did a pinch of fresco again, It’s not plain at all, it is subtle though, very nice.

@nomad: the fresko’s i would think would be right up your alley in terms of grind. the scent’s are really mellow and it’s mostly this wonderful tobacco goodness. as i said the shmalzler is rather subtle. so i think yer best bet would be to get the echt fresko and the straubinger. lol. hope that was some help.

@Juxtaposer: “The Sternecker’s are very plain all of them, almost disappointingly so” Well I was hoping for a better review but I thought I would try one style to start ordered the “Sternecker Echt Fresco” and also the “Poschl Schmalzler Perlesreuter” along with several of the Bernard’s styles. The Bernard’s are just so expensive for the amount of product you get.

the Perlesreuter is excellent. and you’re right about Bernard’s being expensive.

@saucy_jack: From what I read sounds like there is quite a bit of contrast between the “Sternecker Echt Fresco” and also the “Poschl Schmalzler Perlesreuter” one being plain and the other rich and decadent could be a great marriage.

Thats what I’ve been thinking.

Got some Sternecker in stock. Forgot to mention it before. thanks Dave

Sternecker schmalzlers are very different. I found them on the plain side but they have specific tobacco scent. Very manly!

I’ve only tried the Echt Fresco, and I love it! The topping is minimal and it reminds me of a freshly opened tin of Samuel Gawith’s Best Brown Flake: Sweet Virginia scent of fresh cut hay and dried fruits. Medium coarse grind, fluffy, moist, and easy to take. Be careful to avoid throat drip, and be forewarned of the insuing schnotterfalls. And it’s even cheap! Ein wunderschoenlich Schupftabak.
