Bernard Brasil Doppelt

V

Just had this for the first time today. Thanks to Tom for the FAST service. At any rate, I hate to say this, but I am a little underwhelmed. I love the grind, and I can definitely taste the chocolate and raisins. Very, very good. It’s just that I find it rather subtle. I was expecting a much stronger, assertive, and longer lasting flavor sensation. Is this par for the course for this snuff? Is the Sternecker stuff in the same vein as this, with a stronger flavor?

X

Sterneckers are more subtle. I thought Brasil Doppelt-Fermentiert was very rich and full. Maybe try the Aecht Altbayericher? That is the only one of Bernard that I think is richer.

S

Indeed, Sterneker’s are much more subtle. I find Bernard’s to be quite rich and full as well. My only complaint with Bernard’s is that a lot of their varieties seem to smell the same

V

Well, I just cleared my nose some, then tried considerably larger pinches. This snuff is very tasty, but at this rate, I will kill the two tins I bought quite quickly. Xander, I’ll put some some Aecht Altbayer on the “to sample” list.

C

It’s Schmalzler, it is meant to be used in LARGE pinches.

S

Yeah I’ve noticed with the couple schmalzlers I have that I need to use copius amounts. Too bad the Klostermischung only comes in those damned 10g tap outs

V

See I didn’t know that about Schmalzlers. I’ll try to order some Sternecker’s anyways just to see what it is like. The 100g packs are rather convenient if I have to shovel this stuff in

V

OK really enjoying this now. tastes just like the smell from a tin of GL Pease’s Haddo’s Delight (pipe tobak)! Need to order more. I am officially a convert.

S

I too think the Brasil is a little weak, but Aecht Altbayericher is a bit stronger and spot on. I know a lot of people talk smack about Pöschl’s regular line, but their schmalzlers are really good, the Bayern Prise Brasil is one of my top 5 and the Doppelaroma is also quite tasty.

J

There is nothing like sticking your face in a hundred gram bag and shoveling your nose full.

@Variable: re: Haddo’s - Heh, that was my first impression for Brasil Doppelt, as well. Only downside to Schmalzlers I can think of, is the relativively low nic content. Like the people here have commented it’s best taken in larger amounts. My favorite at the moment is Pöschl’s Doppelaroma – very rich and moreish!
