The Schmalzler's

this a take or leave snuff ?.. don’t see alot of love shown for’m. i’ve got some of Sternecker’s to try and do like and need to order a lil more Of some Bernard’s Brasil Doppelt fermented… what are some of yo faves, recommends ?

My favs are anything Sternecker, Poschl Sudfrucht, and Poschl Doppelaroma.

I’ll second the Sudfrucht - it’s a favorite of mine that I don’t use often enough.

yeah Sternecker’s is amazing and perhaps underrated.
I prefer Bernard’s to Poschl, but still really like both brands

Gekachelter Virginie.

All of them are good. Poeschls are very oily. I find Sternecker overrated, but I know many here rate them the highest. Bernard are the best, but you cannot get them in bulk. Gekachelter Virginie is good, but not a schmalzler ;)

@lunecat, my fave Bernard’s next to ole Virginie

I never met a Schmalzler I didn’t like. caution they don’t store well for more than 3 years. something changes even stored in glass jars under controlled conditions. I believe it’s the grease that eventually turns. so don’t go hog wild buying Lbs of the stuff. I normally only use Schmalzlers in the cooler months of the year. They just don’t seem the same during warmer months.

Haven’t tried any yet going to get some next order any suggestions

@lunecat The Sterneckers and several of the Poschls are sold in bags so you can jar them up upon reception.

I just discovered schmalzlers last year. I’m disappointed to hear of their (in tobacco terms) short shelf life. I have not yet noticed changes in those I have stored in mason jars for ~8-10 months. I am thinking that if the weak link is the schmaltz substitute, then stocking up on Sternecker Echt Fresco Ungeffetet would still be ok. Can anyone verify that from experience?

I can take em or leave em to be honest. Generally I prefer the English style. I may well buy something again in future as an occasional treat, but not something I’m compelled to ensure I always have. Of course, tastes change too, so ask me again in five years :stuck_out_tongue:
