short questions thread

@nightcap I second those recommendations. Three fantastic snuffs with a surprising amount of variation in flavor and texture. More nicotine than I care to have in me sometimes. Cheeta is one of my favorite snuffs and I only pinch it 3 or 4 times a day due to the extra-high nicotine. However, be aware that if you pick up these white snuffs and use them all day, before too long they won’t cut it either.

Falcon pipes with the aluminum stems. Does the stem help for a cooler smoke? They look cool. I’m tempted to pick one up just for that.

yes it does. They also can have filters. What I found works best is to put a little bit of cotton ball shreds in the depression the bowl screws into. This gives a nice cool smoke even relativily so with gurgely tobaccos. I love my falcon. Got one with a meer lined bowl.

Also Kirstens are cool pipes too. edm

Kirsten’s are cool. A mix of art and engineering.

Is it common for sugars to be used as a sweetener in snuff? Reason I ask, is sugars don’t have much of an odor so I don’t think they’d work well. What could be used for a sweet-ish top note?

@xapken Many floral aromas smell sweet so that might be one source used. I am very curious how Honey Bee is so sweet.

So a while ago I ordered a 25g tub of Kamal from Dave, and I thought the label looked a bit odd. I guess it’s their Indian label on my tub, but I have to ask, is there a Kamal cool? I swear this stuff is just a bit different from the other samples of Kamal I’ve had at various times, in both Indian and our regular packaging. And that difference is there’s a tiny bit of coolness to it just like my Sparrow cool. I like it, but is it just in my head? And if not, was this a fluke, or can this be regularly obtained? Also, I just threw this in here because for some reason the site won’t let me start a new thread…

I have a question: Is their a difference in the method, or ingrediants in the snuff made in India compared with those made in the EU? I now snuff Indian snuffs exclusively, because the EU snuffs would give me a sneezing fit, and they produce a(might be gross here) sticky clear goo in my nose, and that would stop up my nose, sometimes all day long. This happens with Toque and Wilsons, and some others, yet it doesn’t happen with the Indian snuffs(that I have noticed). This made me exchange off all my EU snuffs. I can snuff the 6 and 5 and even Dholakias all day, and they don’t make this mysterious nose glogging sticky goo like the EU snuffs do to me. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like there must be a difference somewhere.

Their use of slaked lime in some products is the only possibility which occurs to me.

slaked lime is also called pickling lime. Is it used in pickles?

no, vinegar.

Here’s what I buy. http://store.mrswagesstore.com/mrswagpiclim.html

I usually get brown goo.

I hear a bunch about schmalzer but can’t find much on it. How is it different from UK snuff?

Schmalzlers are different because they are sauced before ground up. They also use oil to make it moist. And they are very coarse. They smell of tobacco, maple and dates.

@snuffster, snuff is #2 for me. I don’t think snuff alone could satisfy me. For now I’m happy with the way things are. I may cut out pipe smoking, at least as a daily thing, in the future. Right now I’m just happy to stay off cigs.

What was the question? I would like to smoke some Sir Walter Raleigh. That is what my dad smoked.

@bigmick - sure, its whatever works for you. I also think it has something to do with what you come across first; I feel the same way about snus. I like it but its a distant second place to the powder of the Gods.

Here’s one: does the Zuka snuff company still exits? Their website is defunct, although Snuffstore still has some?
