As a tobacco entrepreneur I was wondering if anyone could help steer me in how to go about obtaining snuff as a Florida resident & also what brands/ flavors are a good choice for a first timer. I have smoked, dipped, chewed all of the above in the tobacco world and am very intrigued by this other way to get a good ole tobacco buzz! I would love to know flavors, brands, accessories that would be needed & more than anything a good “safe” way to obtain said stuff. Thanks.

I do have one retailer here in Vero Beach who can order it for me from California but those brands are as follows: WE Garrett & Sons Snuff, Tube Rose Dry Snuff, Silver Dollar, Samuel Gawith, LongHorn, Dental Dry, Honest, Peach Dry. The company he deals with is Phillips & King. I have no idea if any of these brands are worth a darn & if they come in flavors, and how much to get and if I can get accessories. Also wondering about how to do snuff. As shameful as that may sound I am new to this game and any and all feedback would be great. thx.

@wak555 What part of Florida? I live in the Miami Beach area. I’ve tried every tobacco store I can find and I’ve decided that the online supporter shops are the best, safest way to get snuff. I used to be concerned about shipping costs but quite honestly, you’ll spend a lot more on gas to get nothing. Some of the Winn Dixie’s in my area have one or two scotches. As much as I love my scotches I wouldn’t recommend them for a beginner!

@wak555 Honestly if you want a frank answer- (and this is MY opinion) You should go over to the “MR. SNUFF” icon and click it. That’s who I would order from. They have the best selection and are very reliable. www.snuffreviews.com GO THERE. You can read about almost every kind of snuff and find out which interests you. I’d also try one of each kind of snuff to see what works for you. The ones you listed are mostly US Scotches and those are mainly enjoyed by the veterans or more advanced snuffers and aren’t exactly beginner friendly! Out of all the scotches I’d recommend Honeybee for a beginner. Even that is sorta tough on a noob. Just place an order with Mr. Snuff. I’d try: An SP- Wilsons of Sharrow - Best SP A fruit- Toque - any kind of fruit snuff A plain snuff- Fribourg and Treyer’s- High Dry Toast Samuel Gawith (don’t get the tap boxes)- Black Rappee etc. Those are all just examples of snuffs that are totally different from one another. That way you can find out what you like best and THEN you can come ask me or someone on here to recommend a snuff that is along the lines of the one(s) you like. There are FAR too many snuffs out there for us to just recommend you one without knowing what you like! Pinch a pea-sized amount of the snuff. Raise it to your nose and GENTLY sniff it into your nostrils. NOT like cocaine. You want it in your nose, not your sinuses or your head. Sniff from your NOSE and not your throat. If it goes into your throat it’s not the end of the world. However best results are when u have an even amount of snuff in both nostrils. Start with pea sized amount divided between both nostrils and enjoy! Very pleasant this thing called snuff…

@wak555 yes. Everything you need. Get a smashbox or snuffbox, hankerchief, some tins of snuff and maybe a spoon, and you’re good to go.

@wak555 P.S.- You won’t be able to buy European snuff here in the U.S. Even if you could, it would be stale and nasty. Trust me. You have to buy from overseas unless you like US Scotches. Mr. Snuff is your man. Blame the PACT laws.

@wak555: Possibly Winn Dixie but like I said, nothing but a couple scotches at best. Are you familiar with Captain Hirams, in Sebastian? I’m a regular there, even though it’s over two hours away! If fact that’s where my screen name, “MiamiMark” comes from.

One thing I’d recommend is to add some Poschl snuffs to the initial sample order. Some of those are great beginner snuffs and easy to use. Don’t forget the medicated/mentholated types too. Those can be especially appealing to beginners because they introduce a new dimension to the experience and its good to understand how to work with menthol rebound early on IMO.

Yeah I’ve been going there for 10 years and I know the “old time” bartenders like Phil, Zak and Corrine. I’ve met the owner a few times, he’s from Maryland (me too) I believe.

You know Mark, the man I know is named Tom Collins ironically enough. I am not sure if he sold it or not. But nevertheless a chill spot by the water with great live music. I am an avid musician (amateur) but I can wail on a harmonica! and saw Marshall Tucker Band there last year. If you hit it on a good night youll see some really cool bands! Saw The Whalers there as well all within this fiscal yr.

It might. But a counter-intuitive fact about snuff is that very small (one might say timid) pinches burn a lot more than a large ones - Its all about surface area. Plenty on the site re pinches.

It’s a nice fluffy snuff, quiet east to take. Not strong in tobacco but very strong in the menthol.

one last ?.. rhetorical prolly but you want the snuff in ur nose not ur sinuses or throat correct? more like a snuff with the noise as a opposed to a snort and is there any merit to a bullet or snort stick??

wak555, Like someone said, any Poschl snuff that comes in a plastic box is loaded with menthol. President and Gawith Apricot would certainly be good for starters. And yes, the snuff is to go in the nose but not beyond the septum. Bullets can be good for beginners especially when exploring the fine grinds but eventually they just don’t deliver a big enough dose for some. Aside from that, I would side with Snuffster and suggest graduating to larger doses over time. Make sure to try different techniques too, pinching, back of the hand, snuff spoon, etc… With the data base of info here and the You Tube videos, you shouldn’t have too many problems.

You don’t *need* any accessories. These are personal preference only. Most snuffs are sold in containers that allow for easy direct use either by pinching or pouring a pile on the back of your hand. Eventually you will need somethng to blow your nose in, and I assume you have something already for that. Keep it simple until you know you like it enough to continue. You can always experiment with accessories later. FWIW, most of my snuff used to be shipped from Vero Beach. I miss those days.

@ EVERYONE WHO COMMENTED: I got 8 different snuffs, 2 hankies, a spoon, & a bunch of those smash boxes. As Xander said there really is no need for an accessory it’s all personal pref. I have been avid connoisseur of tobacco for over ten years & am really looking forward to what I know is not safer than cigarettes or a pipe, but I do know that I hate American dipping tobacco & chew both very very very bad as America does everything to make one more addicted. No American made cigarette with the exception of American Spirit burns for longer than 4 min. so I’ll take a break on my lungs & let’s not lie it takes a certain swagger to snuff tobacco. @wak555 A couple things to point out. First, by al currently available evidence, snuff is far and away much safer than just about any form of tobacco, except perhaps Swedish snus. Read up, even The Lancet recommended that people be encouraged to switch to snuff rather than smoke, as it would be a far safer way for them to get their nicotine. Second, to point out a bit of forum etiquette that’ll save you from getting slammed by a troll on some other site, if nobody’s posted since your last post and you’ve got something new to say, just edit the first one. A few doubleposts here and there are okay, but three or four in a row several times in your first thread is like asking for the a certain segment of the internet to get on your case pretty hard, and they won’t put it nearly as politely as this.

@Spyro I think it’s almost impossible to not have snuff ending up beyond the septum, especially with dryer and finely grounded type of snuff (which is my preference). It does not end up in the throat, but far in the nose where I believe the sinuses start. Almost every time I take snuff I feel the burn deep in the nose just below the eyes and it makes my eyes water. And it delivers nicotine nicely that way!

That depends on where you live and where you ordered it from. From the UK to US has been known to take between 1-4 weeks, usually closer to 1, but the odd hold-up can occur. Which store did you buy from?

no alarm … @wak555 … depends on which store you ordered it from … mrsnuff, you have to wait 28 days, i believe, before you can worry, Toque, usually arrives quickly. i have only ordered from snuffstore once … seemed like average time. but yeah, if you ordered from mrsnuff, 2 weeks isn’t unheard of - customs and all.

It usally takes 7 to 8 days to get to Warrensburg MO, about the middle of the country. After 28 days they can file with British Post and have it shipped again. edm

Hmmm. Where are you having it shipped to? I’m in TN and it’s never taken more than a week… but it can take several from what I’ve heard- this might just be one of those instances but rest assured it’s not normally the case and you’ll usually receive it within a week…

well it will be 14 days ago tomorrow and I got an email saying it was shipped on the 24th so im guessing it should be here to FL (east coast) this week. if i dont receive it i will contact mrsnuff.

log on to MrSnuff, click my account, look at order history. Will show exact day it was shipped. A few months ago I odrered som snuff from toque and after 28 days contacted rodrick, He filed with British post ans shipped another order. They both arived a week later 3 days appart. edm

@wak555 - you need to wait 28 days. that is when mrsnuff or toque or whichever store ships via royal mail can make a claim. if it shipped the 24th of june - be another 2 weeks before you should contact mrsnuff - sometime around the 23rd of July.

dang thats crazy. im glad i will know for future to not pay extra for shipping! Does living in a state like FL have a different bearing on this I wonder?

@wak555 No. It’s usually 2-3 to the US and another 2-3 to reach you. Honestly, there’s not really much reason living in FL would have longer delivery times…

@wak555 — not sure what option you may have chosen for shipping, or how big your order is ---- but i have never chosen a different method besides Royal Mail, i.e. regular post. does mrsnuff have a UPS option? on a $55 order, with 10 types of snuff, the highest shipping cost i paid was around $16. it’s rated by weight, i believe.

@snuffbrant — I just saw Royal Mail, but it offered three different payments one was a minimum of 6$US another 20$US & a final of 26$ US I Think dont take me to the bank on that, but I know I paid for the most expensive 1 & my order was in total 68$ US. I see the money has been taken from my bank acct. as I paid with a debit card & I also see that the order was shipped from MrSnuff on the 24th of June so I do not understand as to why I have not received it yet… I did however get five different brands and a snuff spoon I dont know. If I dont get it by the 10th I will def. make an inquiry. I have already emailed back and forth with MrSnuff as they did not have one of the hankies in stock so my order didnt leave until the 24th. Relax man. You’re just having shipping anxiety. Most of us have experienced it before, especially back in January when things got really backed up due to a postal security alert. Every now and then a package will take an extra adventure and arrive a bit late. If it shipped on the 24th you are well within the comfort zone still. Trust me, the rollercoaster is just not that likely to derail. And if something does go wrong I’m sure MrSnuff has your back as do the rest of us here. Drop by the US Post Office site and have a look at the alerts and notifications. (By the way they are going bankrupt)

Also, if you spent $26 shipping for an order that cost around the same, you should have a tracking number. the $16 shipping on $50+ orders comes with one. You should be able to find it in the email you got letting you know the package shipped. Just check you’re tracking number and you should exactly where your package is, and possibly why it’s delayed. Can’t believe nobody else has mentioned this yet.

Since this is a newb thread, I have a newb question. Figured I’d ask here instead of making a new thread. Sometimes (not all the time) when I snuff, if I get too much, or sniff too hard, my nose gets runny and I just sniffle and swallow instead of blowing my nose all the time. Is this normal? Is it bad practice or unhealthy? I’ve searched but couldn’t find a definite answer.

I’ve encountered a few throat drainers. Its not uncommon - I actually consider it a good sign when I can clear the dose all the way to the back. So long as the drainage isn’t nasty tasting. Try a different grind and see if it changes. Sometimes, in my case, its the snuff and other times its me. Also, try bigger doses.

you can try to track it at usps.com … see if it works there. then yes, see if royal mail offers a tracking number lookup.

If it’s shipping from MrSnuff, tracking ends once it hits customs, so it’s not going to work on USPS’ website. Most tracking numbers, you can just drop into google and they’ll sort it for you these days.

Its my understanding that the more costly shipping options are a ripoff anyway. At least that’s what I heard. I was thinking about investing in the more expensive shipping options at one time but someone (might have been you shiki, don’t recall) pointed out that the standard shipping is usually just as good and that tracking numbers don’t really mean much anyway. Just e-mail MrSnuff or whichever vendor you deal with. These guys deal with shipping junk everday, they can tell you the low down on the best shipping options from now on. I’m sure someone will add to this and correct me if I’m mistaken, but I always pick the cheapest shipping method and give it a month before I start frowning at my postman. If my snuff fails to show, he’ll face the wrath of my chihuahuas as they devour him like a pack of velociraptors. I know its not his fault, but the spice must flow.

One more thing, browse the old “What’s in your mailbox?” thread and you can follow some of the drama during the great shipping disaster of 2011. Many of us got pretty antsy back then. As a native Texan I instinctively start cleaning my guns when my nicotine supply is in jeopardy. After a brief lesson in humility, my packages finally arrived just fine.

There’s no special meaning to my moniker. My kid was playing Spyro the day I made this account and I grabbed it as a user name just because I was too lazy to put much thought into it. I got sick of looking at the little red X where my image was supposed to go so I grabbed a pic of the goofy dragon and stuck it on there for aesthetics. I’m surprised anyone even noticed.

I use the second cheapest option myself. It’s the cheapest one with tracking, guess it’s Royal Mail’s version of Priority, and it usually only means a $3 difference.

Ive been waiting 27 days since my order, and Im running out.

@Brandasaur: Aren’t you in Canada? I’ve had luck with some (non-snuff) mail, but EVERYTHING is backed up here and will be for at least another week. Unless it got caught in customs and not the labour dispute. In last case, it could be months and you’ll get huge bill. Personal experience here …

Yup. I did get my pipe I ordered off Ebay the other day, The stem broke off inside the pipe during shipping and I just dont even care anymore lol Im not even going to try and get a refund. My snuff was shipped a week before the lock out hit and my package was probably sent to Vancouver where there was no rotating strike so Im assuming it will be here soon.
