Proposed/suggested new Toque Flavors

Oooh, how do you join this tasting panel? XD

I would like to spearhead the ‘tasting panel’ in the U.S., Roderick. (With the magnetic atmosphere being a polar opposite of Europe, it would be wise to confirm that 400g of a new flavor holds the same scent in Ohio as it does in England)

@ snuffster I would describe Sparrow Cool as being like a HDT with a hint of menthol. Certainly the grind would qualify it as a Toast. Would the Sparrow Cool fit your criteria, or not?

LHB, I agree there are similarities but I wouldn’t call it a high dried toast. In actual fact I’ve just finished one of the small round snuff boxes of Sparrow Cool - I would say it’s a mentholated SP. HDT’s are manufactured in a specific way to carry the name - traditonally using kilns to toast the tobacco. I am no expert in snuff manufacture so stand to be corrected by one of our members more knowledgeable in production, but I don’t think the Sparrow has this treatment - certainly to my palette it doesn’t fee like a HDT. Best wishes, Nigel

and thanks Roderick.

Wit & Wisdom by Gallaher was the mentholated toast that snufftser was talking about. One of our members found some old stock a few months ago and traded them around to other members. I got a bit, but there is really only a hint of menthol remaining. It is clearly a toast otherwise, and very similar in flavor to the Wilsons, F&T, Toque, and SG toasts that are out there.

please say black pepper snuff please please  However sparrow certainly isn’t a toast. Similar but it doesn’t have that toasted scent to my nose. Great snuff either way. For one thing I would not add scent to a toast (it would be not so good) I like adding scents to the sparrows (it takes them on extra well).

Bob, Toque already has several scented toasts. Do you like none of them?

Xander, wit and wisdom is something I’ve known about for years but never tried. I accept yours was past it’s best but would you say it was a good blend? I love the thought of a mentholated toast so hope Roderick does create something.

Yeah, it was good. Much like the IHT #22 from Wilsons. The aging had lost 95% of the menthol (I’m estimating) but the toast character was very good. Maybe you missed it, I think it was last summer. MrMaroon found some locally (20 J&H Wilson size tins) and traded them all out. Do some searches to read the relevent discussions, there was quite a buzz around here about it for awhile.

I do remember it but for one reason or another I didn’t get round to getting some. Well, it sounds good so maybe Roderick will re-create something like this/

I agree that the Sparrow Cool doesn’t have any of the “Toasted” character I associate with my favorite “Toasts” but sometimes it seems that people emphasize the grind as the characteristic feature of “Toasts.” I would agree that it’s the toasted flavor that sets them apart. I would love to try a genuine mentholated HDT sometime. BTW, mixing Toque Natural Toast with Toque Menthol at 2/3:1/3 gives a not-so-great combination in my opinion. I should add that Toque Toast and Marmalade and Lime Toast are not my favorite Toques. I prefer the Schmalzer like character of Toque Vanilla and Menthol in a 50:50 blend, which was recommended by Roderick in this forum earlier. Reminds me of Bernard’s Jubilaums a bit.

Sorry I love the toque toasted with scents. “I wouldn’t add scent to a toast”! However with sparrow I feel pretty sure if I like a scent and added to the sparrow the natural scent of sparrow will not conflict with the added scent. Hope that makes sense.

I think a honey with a very light menthol would be tasty as well.

Rustica natural and rustica natural toast.

Well, considering that there is a bourbon variety, and several mint varieties, it seems only natural to suggest a nice, sweet, Mint Julep flavor. 'Twould be AWESOME.

Marlboro" or “Natural Smoke Juice (“Johnson Creek” etc) I’m not trying to be silly, but has there ever actulaly been a 'cigarette flavored” snuff? There are "e-liquids’ that give a really wonderful cigarette smell to them, like the one I mentioned or ones named specificaly for cigarette brands that really smell enticing, smell like the very cigarette essence (which isnt the same as just ‘tobacco’ or at least so far in snuffs I have sampled and that is quite a few by now) if Roderick would buy himself a little bottle of for example the “Johnson Creek Orignal smoke juice” or similar from e-cigarette ‘e-liquid’ suppliers and take a smell of them (they fail miserably at providing that ‘taste’ as provided when used as e-cig liquids)… but that smell… if it could be put into a snuff so it could be really smelled/ tasted would really rock and would be like no nasal snuff I have found.

The closest to cigarette flavoured snuff has been McCrystals ‘S’nuff’ and Toques ‘Quit’. Both designed to be plain and strong. The McCrystals supposedly had increased nicotine but I couldn’t detect it. As for actual smoke flavoured (discounting, arguably, HDT’s) - No

To me, the Dholakia Sparrow Cool tastes like a Newport.

@ Carol, have you tried WoS Honey Menthol yet? I just love it.
