I have some good news. Finally my shipment from Dholakia has cleared customs. We should get it to the warehouse tomorrow at some point. Then all the product will be updated on the website. I am stoked.
I better get my next order in now seeing as it has taken about 6 months to get it back in stock.
Here I come:) I hang my head in shame when I remember how much I ribbed Fubar when it first came out. I don’t buy it often but it is, withoubt doubt, a true modern classic brand. Each of the snuffs is 10/10 delicious and it is _ the _ top contract brand, for whatever my opinion is worth etc; great snuffs
Dholakia White: You just have to have products like this, like phal curries, fiery tex-mex chili and the rest. It is absolutely peerles in what it does - giving head spinning blasts of snuff power. This is a wonderful snuff. You just don’t take it every day.
I forgot to mention we have a bunch of Dholakia Toasts in this order. Snuffster reviewed them a while back. These are new products by request of yours truly. I figured if the white is as good as it is then maybe they’ll turn out decent toasts. If I remember correctly Snuffster gave them glowing reviews. There is also one called African Snuff which is in the NTSU Black style.
Hehe Snuffster, I DO take Dholakia White everyday. It is my snuff of choice and cannot wait to get my order in as I have been out for a very long while now.
For all of you suffering during this shortage - Rejoice! I for one, have not fully recovered from the image in my mind of all of the last shipment being destroyed! This, to me, was an act of insanity.
@Whalen: I hate to be reminded of that. At first it was so ridiculous I laughed. That is literally true. It was the culmination of about 2 months of kafka-esque madness. I now find it more annoying. Not the money, just the sheer waste for no good reason. I am not sure if I shared this or not, but the final irony was that I had to pay a deposit of $3000 for customs duties in the event it was cleared. As you know it was never cleared. After they destroyed the snuff (ie burned in an incinerator within 24 hours because it is considered perishable goods - I jest not) I asked for my money back. They said that I was due no refund because it was cleared. Ermmm…what kind of weird twilight zone fantasy is this? It was NEVER cleared. Oh right sir…fill out this form. Still waiting and expect to wait at least another 6 months. In the business world you would go to jail for this sort of behavior. It is laughable (and really sad) how power is abused. I don’t know if this is an anti-tobacco prejudice or if this is modus operandus but it surely does not engender much faith that’s for sure.
Darn it…I vowed not to get on my soapbox about this again. I will say no more.
@mr. Snuff - My Bad! And BTW, I guess you are waiting until I am at work and fully distracted to update the site with the new arrivals? I have been hitting the refresh button on the Dholakia page like a crack addicted lab rat all weekend waiting to make a very dear order, the new toasts in particular. You do know of course that I still sleep with my pillows stuffed with bulk Fubar. Please be careful climbing down off that soapbox, it is bound to be very slippery with spittle! I too remain traumatized and confused by the whole affair. I suggest some serious single malt therapy, it seems to comfort me somewhat. I will tipple some and waft the escaping angels breath your way.
I do hope you got some Fubar Grunt & Medic in as I want a large order this time. Damned if I will make the misstake of not buying enough to stock pile again!!!
We also have 4 toasts and a Dholakia version of NTSU (they actually manufacture it under contract for an African snuff compnay so it should be authentic.).
I have been hunting for Snuffsters reviews of the new snuffs but can’t find them. I can’t get the search function to return anything meaningful. If anybody could help out it would be much appreciated.
Dave
PS: we will be sending an email out tomorrow with a celebratory discount code DHOLAKIA. It will work in about 5 minutes if you want to get in early. Make sure you spell DHOLAKIA correctly!
PPS: The code will also work for Blast, Temptation, WOW and Dholakia Herbal which is now in 25g and 50g tubs.
@Mr.Snuff - Here ya go. Snuffster July 2011 I was asked to sample five un-released new snuffs from Mr Snuff. They have been developed by Dholakia and comprise of four new toasts plus a rich, course African snuff. I don’t know the release dates. My standard method when I’m asked to review a new snuff is to use it over a couple of days or so. I don’t use any other snuff in that time so that I get a feel for how it would serve as a main snuff or as part of a rotation. The snuffs came as numbered toasts, 1-4, and as one just marked ‘African’. They were well packaged and I didn’t detect any bleed through of flavours in transit. Toasts 1 thru 3 look something like a Toque toast as opposed to the very light varieties. Toast No 1. Fine mill and mid range brown in colour. The nose feel is somewhere between a standard toast and any number of the finer Dholakia snuffs. Present in all of the toasts is that almost elusive note of spice that seems to come from just about all Indian made snuffs, whatever their title or type. It’s not strong enough for me to name as a flavouring and to me simply says ‘India’. Maybe the faintest touch of incense that you might detect in a temple thats not in use; that’s not to be poetic and any regular user of Indian snuffs will have an idea what I mean. As you would expect the snuff gives a potent burn and noticeable nicotine lift. I think the nicotine hit with a toast or Scotch is as much about the increased surface area that the ‘fin’ mill gives as much as by design, but whatever the cause it’s a pleasant jolt. There are sweet and sour top notes that mellow out into a nice rounded tobacco feel. Toast No 2. Fine mill and mid range brown in colour. Immediately present is a combination of a sourish top note and rich earthy tobacco taste. With some snuffs you tend to get flavours in succession, by which I mean you notice one flavour and then another. Typically the sharper note hits first but with this snuff, by whatever vaguery of blending or production, you get sharp and bass together. It’s a pleasant experience and gives the taste a sort of robust character. I also get those smoky flavours that a US Scotch delivers. Toast No 3. Fine mill and mid range brown in colour. I found this to be the closest to a standard toast. There is a swift, sharp top note that mellows out into that roasted mid range common to toasts - it’s a complex flavour and hints of choclate and woodsmoke, and of course the elusive incense taste just hovering about the place. If, like me, your rotation of snuffs includes things like J and H Wilsons SP No 1, Sharrow SPs and toasts, it would dovetail nicely. Toast No 4. The only one of the toasts that does not work from the same, basic flour. This has a fine mill but is a rich dark brown in colour, maybe just a touch lighter than Dholakia ‘Black’. Of the four toasts this immediately stands out as being of a very different breed. This is all flavour and very complex and deep flavour at that. On the pinch you get a fine, tangy top note that immediately gives way to a deep, dark explosion of flavour. It is earthy, like peat, and full of fragrant taste that reminds you of wood fires with green leaves thrown on top. Of course, I have just described how Latakia can taste. I have no idea what tobacco was used in this but the last snuff I tasted that had this character was the old (Wilsons made) Latakia snuff by Tranter’s. This is a challenging snuff and whilst I usually recommend that new users try everything out there, this is maybe one to graduate to. If I was confident of my spelling I would say that its a connoisseur’s snuff! I will also use the remainder whilst sipping a good, peat-rich Scotch whisky. All of these depart in some way from the accepted form that toasts usually take and they make a refreshing addition to the genre. ‘African’. Very dark in colour and coarse - gross - in mill. This had compacted in transit so that it almost looked like Copenhagen dip. When I got the strong blast of ammonia I knew I was dealing with something like NTSU. As with (how I use) NTSU I aired it for a couple of hours before trying. I was surprised to get a strong, fresh menthol blast as soon as I pinched which from such a coarse looking snuff seemed odd for some reason (and because my nearest frame of reference, NTSU, never seems to have much of a kick in its menthol form). Dholakia always have a deft touch with menthol so that you get menthol AND tobacco as a flavour and this is equally well put together. Fresh, minty almost, and then fading into the rich tobacco base. A good nicotine dose too. As some users air NTSU for a day or more I aired some for three days and went back to it. There was some loss of the menthol flavour, because the aromatics in snuff are carried off along with the water content during evaporation, and this left a dryish, potent snuff that was quite sneezy but very like its rival. Four very good snuffs and possibly one classic in the making.
