Just got em’ today! First off, the cloth package the snuff arrived in was beautiful! I undid the stitching very carefully with a sharp knife so I could save it! I’m American, so I am used to manilla envelopes, very boring! Anyway, on to the good stuff, the snuff! I found both to be extremely fine, the black moist compared to the white. I’m not a snuff expert, so I really couldn’t try to explain the ‘flavor.’ The black which is indeed VERY black in color smells very much like Dholakia’s ‘base’ tobacco. It is very smooth but be warned, this is BLACK powder, so if you sneeze, you may end up with a stain on your shirt! The white snuff, is a really pale, tan color. The only scent I detected in this was a very strong ammonia-fishy smell. I know that sounds gross but it isn’t. It is actually a very refreshing, sinus opening snuff. Both were very easy to take. I used both one right after the other, so I couldn’t tell you which one had the big nic hit. I’m sitting here typing with sweaty palms, which is my common side effect of a good nic hit! SO, my final opinion, I would definitely buy BOTH of these! My hope would be for these to come in a very cool Indian tin, such as the ones that Tom502 found in that Indian market (Another thread). TWO THUMBS UP NAMRATA! Thank you so very much for giving me the opportunity to try these out!!!

I can’t wait till I get mine(if I do, I hope). From your description, the black snuff is not like the Himalaya black at all. Maybe in color. The Himalaya is like a hard charcoal briquet, that I had to scrape off the powder from, and it’s really like the dust off of a charcoal, I was saying coal, but charcoal is more accurate. And the initial sniff, is a nice cool menthol, and a pleasant perfume.

I can’t wait to get them either! I sent Namrata an email, I hope she got it!

I discovered that ‘Black’ is the one that has a very good nic hit! The more I use this snuff, the more I like it! I really hope it becomes available for sale soon! BTW, neither of these are menthol or perfumey and both are free-flowing powder. No charcoal here. That is a pretty interesting concept though. Sounds like hashish! LOL - Anyway, hope you guys get your samples soon! They will be worth the wait.

The black was potent. Very potent. I wonder if there is something besides tobacco in there.

tom, they do send requests directly from the website. I got an email back from them asking me for my mailing address for some reason after I requested the samples. Usually takes a couple of weeks for snuff to get here from India from past experience. Don’t give up hope quite yet, I haven’t recieved mine yet either.

I agree Xander!!! I take EXTREMELY small pinches every time and that snuff really affects me! I’m not complaining at all though! I think next time I take a pinch I am gonna see if it makes my pupils dilate! KIDDING!! Is this characteristic of BLACK snuffs? The blacker they are, the stronger??? What did you think of the white one?? I have a ton of snuff and swore I would use oldest to newest up first, but I can’t seem to put these 2 new ones down! I’ll be sad when I run out!

I ‘kinda’ take back my black snuff question of strength because I am now thinking of a few American varieties that seem pretty potent to me and those are PALE brown in color…

I don’t think color has anything to do with potentcy, but in this case the black is wicked strong. However, the white gave a potent hit. The black gave more of a lingering buzz. The white is very fine and dry. Color of a toast but not the same character. I think the reason I got mine first is becuase I emailed Namrata directly and included my address in the same email. I"m quite suprised that there is so little buzz about these now. I thought everybody would have them by now. I think these both are what Pieter would call “rough-neck snuffs” I’m having trouble pinching both of these. The black is too moist and the white is too fine. I poured (actually scraped) some black into a snuff box to get at it easier. I still have to kind of stuff it in my nose! This gives serious dookie face!

I just got mine, and I have to concur with general opinion - these snuffs are good and strong. I’m taking small pinches at the moment (as I do with all new snuffs until I’m acclimatised to them) - in fact I’m not pinching these; as fine as they are I’m tipping out small amounts onto the back of my hand and sniffing gently. The black is fine, yet seems a little clumpy coming out of the container, and has the great aroma I associate with Dholakia snuff that lingers pleasantly for some time. It’s fairly smooth and easy to take, and with a good strong nicotine hit! I’d describe it as an Indian SP type snuff. The white is light in colour and fine and powdery in the manner of a toast, but much more so than HDT for example and with a very subtle, almost undetectable scent. It has a nice burn and pretty much instant hit, which seems greater than the black to me. Dholakia have outdone themselves - first making a range of delicious flavoured snuffs, then going back to basics with two excellent plain snuffs that are quite unique. Definitely recommended. Pieter: you will LOVE these!

They named them correctly. The White has to be the most pale snuff I have ever seen. I was amazed with how pale it was.

I let the white snuff air out all night last night and today it smells of fresh hay! Am I the only one that thinks this??? I really hope these go on sale soon! My samples won’t last me long!

I’ve received a tin of nicotine with a very nice snuff kick!!! Eleven days after I’ve e-mailed Namrata, I received the well known white cloth covered package today. This is super fast and the contents is super nice!! I’ve only tried the Black Snuff so far but, let it be known, this is POTENT stuff!!!

My brothers and sisters of this congregation, Dholakia stood up to their name as makers/blenders of FINE snuff with their new White Snuff!! 1) Fine = super fine, powder like snuff, soft and fluffy and almost white. Makes me think of a little kitten 2) Fine = super strong “behave yourself” snuff with a kick like a wild horse but at the same time a tobacco flavour par excellence! Makes me think of a big lion. This is something completely new on the snuffing scene. My Dholakia favourites now look like this: Manjul, Swiss Chocolate, White Snuff, Kamal, Black Snuff, Ganga, Sparrow Green and Sparrow Cool.

Black is the “colour” for me. This is wonderful snuff. I hope my sample will last until I can buy some somewhere.

Freakin’ Awesome. I went out to check my mail box today and guess what was waiting for me. A free sample package of snuff from Dholakia. I had just requested a free sample last week, I never expected to get something so quickly. And not only was it fast, they totally hooked me up. They must have sent me like 50 g of snuff, which also included a bullet that you can transfer from bottle to bottle. Anyway, I haven’t had the chance to sample very many since they just showed up an hour ago, but if there snuff is half as good as their customer relations, I should be in for a treat.

I am mystified by the Indian culture, so I’m almost as excited by the cloth packaging and stamps as I am by the snuff! I’ve only tried Black as of yet, and its amazing! Thanks again Namrata!

Xander, I tried the sparrow cool and I don’t think that snuff is named after the right bird. Perhaps Vulture would be a more fitting name. You know, something pecking out my eyeballs as my severed head lay bloody on the battlefield. I’m kidding of course, but I was not really prepared for what to expect on first snuff. Not quite sure what my overall opinion is yet though. I was warned to take my time warming up to Dholakia. I also opened the Manjul snuff. I took a liking to this one right away and I think it will make it into the regular rotation.

@ snuffegnugen: Vulture indeed. Well, I did warn you… Anyway, I know they give you the nice little bullet/bottle set up, but most of those are a bit too sharp to be in the bullets, especially sparrow and sparrow cool. Try dumping them into a snuffbox or some other container (snus or dip cans work well) that you can pinch from or even an empty snuff tin. You can get a lot less pain, and more enjoyment if you pinch a bit and sniff carefully. No spare tins? just dump the bullet dose on the back of your hand and pinch from there. That will work in a pinch (pun intended). Manjul, Kamal, and now Ganga have all earned a nice place in my rotation. The Sparrows, I keep them for time to time use. I have Black in one of my snuffboxes now. I use it pretty often. White is kind of like Sparrow, more an occasional one. Did you get a Swiss Chocolate in your pack? That one is very nice!

Sparrow Cool is one of my all time faves. It is just unique with a flavor I really like, and a unique menthol amount that really makes it stand out more. I also really like the regular Sparrow. Next would be the Manjul, as it is unique with that slight cooling of mint, with the clove. The other 2 are very good too, I think maybe the Kamal I like a slight more, isn’t that one the just rose scent? What all did you get? Was it just the “Indian Line”? The Swiss Chocolate is awesome, and I think their Medicated is very good too. Back to the Black and White. My initial sniffs yesterday which may not be very trust worthy as I had been snuffing all day and was also stopped up a bit(which is why I am taking today totally off), but the White was really impressive, and I think I like it the most, it was so super fine, and had such a unique and good flavor essence. In that it really stood out. I like the tap-cans as well. The Black seemed to have a more heartier tobaccoy essence, which was very appealing. I’ll bring, I think the Black to work tomorrow, and just concentrate on that one 1st.

OK, so what’s everyone’s honest take on these? I didn’t snuff at all this morning, till I got home from work. I did some Black Snuff 1st. The grind is good, has a deep aroma… kinda pipe tobaccoish to me. It was OK… but not a “wow! this is great” factor. After a little while I just did some White Snuff. The bad thing about this, is the grind. It doesn’t hit the back of your throat, it slams in the bottom of your lungs. The grind kills it, but on the other hand, it has a great essence/aroma to it. I like the White better. But it is really hard to snuff. Too hard. It’s way lighter and finer than even Sparrow. If the grind could be a tad heavier, the White would be awesome. It got my nose running alot too, and some sneezes. I’ll do them some more, my views may change, but this is my initial take. The Black… ho hum, the White, very good, but too fine to snuff well. Any other views?

tom502 - This is why snuff as well as snus is so awesome, as well as dip & chew probably…different strokes for different folks. I love having a variety to choose from and I have learned to not take reviews to heart. Some items I’ve found rated high, I dislike, ie - Dholakia’s Swiss Chocolate. As for the black and white, now that I’ve had a couple more weeks to use them, I’m still with black as being my favorite. I can’t really explain the ‘flavor,’ I just love it and the nic hit, this has replaced my first cup of coffee as a means of rolling out of bed. BUT, I had my husband try it, who does not snuff, snus, dip or smoke (he’s boring like that) and he immediately hated the smell, he said it smelled like “poop.” He’s not the best judge though, I once gave him some concord grape and asked him what the scent was and he had no clue! It obviously smells like GRAPE to me!

Here’s what they sent me, 1ea (.17g plastic vial): Sparrow, Aniseed-menthol, Swiss Chocolate, SHE (honey menthol), Medicated (english menthol) I also got five foil packs with the following: Sparrow cool, Sparrow green/uncool, Kamal, Manjul, and Ganga. I liked the swiss chocolate, but unfortunately, the chocolate seems to have permeated every one of the plastic vials. Even the sparrow and medicated seem to have a hint of chocolate in them. I was certain to not put this in my Snuff vault with the rest of my collection. Except for the Sparrow, all the snuffs in a vial are a lot courser and moist than the india ones in the package. All of them seem pleasant enough, but I don’t like to judge a snuff to soon. I still haven’t opened everything in the packages, just the Kamal and Manjul. I loved the Manjul, it was a very tasty snuff and my favorite thus far, just have to take small hits. Unfortunately, I hated the Kamal, it reminds me of baby diapers because it reeks of talcum powder and something else, maybe lavendar. It also reminds me of a F&T I tried once and hated. Anyway, I know it’s got to be someone else’s favorite though so I won’t bash it. Can’t wait to try the Ganga as I’ve heard good stuff about it.

@ snuffegnugen: Sounds like you got a very nice sampler. It sounds like a combo of the first sample pack they were giving out early last year (or maybe 2007) and the one from later last year once the bullets had been released with the first wave of new flavors. However, She Honey Menthol is a new one on me. The only thing I’ve seen from that range was Cherry Menthol. I have one in a green vial and one in a pink one. I presume their the same, but only one has been opened thus far. @zzedo: yep. According to my wife almost all of them smell like “poop” especially that one. I was a little wary of both of these at first, but the Black has such a great nicotine level, I forget my inhibitions. Hey, try sticking a snus portion under your husband’s lip when he’s sleeping every night. Start with a mini, like the unflavored Oomph. He’ll be addicted in no time! ;=} @tom502: White is indeed challenging. This might be one you just have to put away for awhile. I sniffed it twice so far, that’s it. I may try again a little later. What I think I like about these is that they are “honest” snuffs, in the fact that they don’t hide their natures behind perfumes or anything. I know we joke about using snuff orally, but a lot of Indians use them both nasally and orally, often like a tooth powder. That may have been the market they were going for with this one.

snuffegnugen- don’t throw anything out. You may like them more later, and you might have a trade in the future. I like the Kamal, I was snuffing it yesterday. My fave is the Sparrow Cool, followed by the Sparrow, then Manjul, then the other 2, of the Indian Line. My overall fave company is Dholakia, even though they have a few that I’m not very impressed with, they have more that I am.

Namrata, I just got an order from nicotine rush which included 25g of Sparrow (green). Oh man this stuff is absolutely great!!! I can’t wait for my sample of Black and White to arrive

Hi, Ok, I’ve been on the Black Snuff for a bit exclusively today, and I like this, and would buy this.

I would definitely buy the White, it has really grown on me. I guess I need to spend more time with the Black, but to me the White really stands out as a keeper.

I initially liked the White more, and I still might, but the grind seemed so fine it made it hard to sniff. I’ll bring that one to work tomorrow and give it the morning treatment.

I thought I’d use this thread to mention that I just received samples of both the Dholakia Black and White snuffs. If you’re still waiting for them, be patient, they’re no doubt on their way (Thanks Namrata!!) As has already been mentioned, both are STRONG (and I’m a previous pack a day smoker). Of the two, the Black is more appealing to my nose but the White has its merits. I’m having trouble making out what these remind me of, so far nothing to compare them too out of my collection, closest being the Black reminds me of a scent I get from QWS Sandlewood (that’s a good thing) and is longer lasting, the White for me is totally unique and tapers off more quickly. I haven’t tried any of the Dholakia line proper but this makes me definitely want to. I’ll be giving them a go shortly as I place my next order!! Since I’ve only just received them, I’ll need to sort things out as I use them more. Both come across as good solid products!!

I just saw that snuffstore.de sells the White in a bullet… OUCH!

I am a fan of the Dholakia snuffs, but I found these dissapointing(sp?) overall. I sorta like the Black, but the grind of the White is so fine it makes Sparrow seem like Taxi. But I love Sparrow/Cool, Ganga, Manjul, Kamal, and many many of their other items.

Who ever came up with the idea selling it in bullets must be is a vicious person.

I received my samples yesterday. Liked both of them. The white reminds me of Tibetan “natag”, because of it’s bite, color, and extremely fine grind. Natag is white from the addition of wood ash, which alkalizes the mix. I wonder if there are any alkalizers in this one. No sane person would sniff this out of a bullet. The black reminds me of a nice pungent cigar, minus the smoke, of course. Good work Dholakia, and thanks again for a taste of something really different!

I’ve given up watching the box recently. I have so much stuff appearing that I barely remember requesting. Just this week I’ve gotten a Icetool ( for snus), a can of snus and a American Spirit water bottle, neither of which I remembered until they showed up. Had a small box today that I was hoping had some snuff in it, it turned out to be a gift for my daughters from Grandma. SO if it shows up I’ll be happy, but I’m done watching for the postman. At least until I place my new snuff/snus order from Northerner.

I was looking at snuffstore.de and they have a few different variants of the Dholakia made snuffs than we in the US distros have.

They are all the same, just re-labeled under different brands. IE: QWS is labeled SHE.

I have some of the She. It’s kind of like snuffing a cherry cough drop.

The white is something else. I think they considered powering the shuttle with it but went with rocket fuel instead. I love it but my Lord… I gave the Black five stars on the review site, not so much because it’s anyhting particularly new or novel but because its such a good, solid snuff. Is it on sale anywhere yet?

What a let down. Oh well, I needed to order some snus anyhow.

I must have got the last 2 nic rush had. Got them today. Actually took a long lunch to drive home and check the mailbox and sure enough, there they were, my preciousssss. I really like the black, it’s easier to take than I thought it would be, but the white…OMG! I began to sweat bullets about 15 minutes after the first hit. It hits hard and takes no prisoners! Is this stuff legal? I must take another sniff!

I mixed one part white with one part Toque Natural. It brought out the flavor of the white very nicely and made it a whole lot more manageable

Snifs, you were right. I tried what you said and made it a bit “nicer”. BTW, the little flip top containers that the Black and White comes in have a small crack at the top between the plastic box and the rubber stopper. The White leaks out very easily due to its very fine grind. The Black leaks too, but much more slowly. I’m going to transfer them to different containers, like some smash boxes, so I don’t end up with snuff in my pockets instead of up my nose.

Ok Tom and Dave, any updates? Any news on the shipment? I’m down to little dribbles of black and white dust? S.O.S.

The Black snuff wasn´t available at the german snuffstore in any other version, but the tin shown is the 3rd version of the White snuff there. I´ve got that in a bullet version first (ridiculous, don´t even think about using it from a bullet, more lethal than a “real” bullet), then in the 4g dispenser and now in the 10g tin.
