Will this be getting restocked as I’d like to get a tub? @Jonny

J

@115

Big tubs, such as the 250g, currently need to be ordered specially. Contact @Kay will and we can get one in for you.

If its any use to you, we have plenty (52) of the 25g tubs in stock.

How much would a 250g tub cost? @Kay @jonny Not sure if this price is still an old price as it’s quite high.

J

Hi @115

Can you let me know the product and the price you are seeing please.

Here is a screenshot.

J

I looked into this. The 250g tub has not been in stock for over a year. Presumably this is because Dholakia have not fulfilled the order request, which I guess is because they have discontinued it. I have reached out to our contact in Dholakia to get a full product list, including prices. Before now we just had a category price list, but this did not include 250g tubs, so the prices for 250g were reduced during the price review but the new price was a guess.

So we wait to see what Dholakia come back with. If they still do it, we will order again, and hopefully we will get a true price from them as well. Until then, we have the other sizes in stock now.

B

He Jonny, Is Fubar discontinued?

J

No. It is still available from the website. We have some more on order but the Indian manufacturers have inconsistent lead times. Hopefully it will arrive soon.

Do you have a particular product in mind. I can check for you.

J

Goid news.

I just got confirmation that the manufacturer has dispatched our latest order, and that includes Fubar. We should be fully restocked soon.

J

@115

I have an update for you.

It turns out that Dholakia are stopping snuff production in favour if manufacturing nicotine pouches.

However, they have agreed to continue supplying Mr Snuff with their top 10 best sellers, if we want. I haven’t checked yet but I am pretty sure Swiss Chocolate will be on the list.

@Jonny That’s good to know you will still be getting some. Hopefully this will be one let me know when you get the new prices on 250g please of this. I have bought 25g to keep me going a bit so hopefully it wont take long to sort. While you bought up nic pouches what are the chances of you stocking snus like General, Ettan and so on.

W

So sad, another manufacturer exiting the snuff making business

After losing Molens de Kralingse, Sternecker, Bernard, Pfalzer, Rosinski & now Dholakia it seems that slowly but steadily or beloved hobby is going extinct.

Those damned nicotine pouches, lately they are everywhere.

Lets hope that at least their 10 best sellers will be still produced and carry on the snuff tradition

Sorry to hijack the thread to vent my frustration…

J

These are the top ten best selling Dholakia products, over the last 365 days, in order. Is there any you would swap out for something else?

  1. DHO057 - Dholakia Swiss Chocolate 25g
  2. DHO064 - Dholakia White 25g
  3. DHO052 - Dholakia Sparrow Cool 9g
  4. DHO233 - Dholakia Lychee 9g
  5. DHO240 - Dholakia Roasted Nut 9g
  6. DHO246 - Dholakia Berry Frost 9g
  7. DHO243 - Dholakia Smoker’s Blend 9g
  8. DHO238 - Dholakia Sicilian Crush 9g
  9. DHO038 - Dholakia Manjul 9g
  10. DHO134 - Dholakia Medicated No.10 9g

Don’t worry about the size, we would get in all available sizes for each product.

Nope that looks pretty good to me. Glad they are still doing the chocolate and sicilian. Will any of these prices change?

T

Glad to see Dholakia white is on the list. Surprised that the black is not on there, may have to grab myself a few tubs before it dissappears for ever.

J

The prices are up in the air. We will have to see what Dholakia come back with, and at this stage we are not sure we are going to go ahead with the deal; but, just for interest sake, what would be the correct price point in your opinion?

W

What about the F.U.B.AR. line? Will it still be made or can we consider it defunct?

To be honest, I ain’t a clue but Id be happy with 250g for £15-£17. If I was you myself I would run a poll if you can on here to see if people like Dholakia snuffs. I say this as on reddit they don’t seem to get much love there so think a poll would help you know if you have the demand for them. I’d hate to see you stuck with products nobody wants. To be fair there are only two I’m after that’s the chocolate and the sicilian to try. I’m waiting on 25g of the chocolate to try atm I’m just going of the good reviews but if it’s as good as the raving I would probably get 250g of it or 150/170 odd g. The Sicilian I have not tried but going of reviews I will need to wait till I order again to grab one to sample but if I enjoy it probably get 150+ g.

Those are two I’m currently on the fence with. But if you have a good bit of stock I’d run the poll give me time to see what my chocolates like and hopefully I will have tried the sicilian to see if I want more. The Poll I’d run for a month get enough feedback see what the out comes is if there is not enough interest don’t bother with getting more.

If I were to take a guess at prices Id probably go at something similar to the 6photo prices 8g 45g 200g not the newer 30g tins for £.4.99. Like I say thats a stab in the dark for me to come up an idea.

If the out come is that the poll indicates no ones wanting it. Myself I’d reduce the stock a bit to help clear the stock and use that to get other stock thats selling or maybe look for some new products to trial.

I’d make it a announcement post/poll like the one you have done about shipping so everyone can see it.

At a guess I’d say no, If they are focusing on nic pouches. Probably depends how well they do producing and selling those. If they don’t do that well would be silly not to still produce it here and there if they can sell it and they still have the machinery to do so. We shall see what happens could be something they could trial here see if they are any good. I would give some a try if they are nice and cheap alternative to the EU/UK pouches for £5+. Idealy be nice to see them around the same price as the fubar chew bags or the gold rush snus bags. Thats what I’d be happy with lol

J

An update on our thinking with Dholakia.

We took a good look at the sales and honestly, they were not encouraging. Coupled to the poor rep we are seeing online, plus Dholakia’s strategic move to pouches, it is all making me wonder if they are worth the candle.

I am all for preserving snuff manufacturers, but unlike the historic European snuff manufacturers being killed by track and trace, this feels like more of a justified, natural death.

Maybe we just say goodbye to Dholakia? What do you think?

Fubar could live on mind you, we would switch production to Lachhman Das maybe

Well if that’s how you feel probably best to leave it be and move on with others products. Will any of the prices be reduced if so let me know I will likely get some more of the ones I like save getting more snuff in…

P

Gotta keep the white snuff options alive in my opinion . Dholakia white is a handy thing to have if White Elephant keeps being hard to come by .

P

I’d be a bit cautious about the utility of that list too .Your last 365 days haven’t been normal operating conditions . Go back a few years perhaps and see what sold then in a less volatile marketplace ?

Dholakia white and Swiss chocolate are nobrainers , Manjul likely is too . Original Sparrow used to get some love . Madras toast too . These exotic flavours (like lychee for instance ) seem an odd choice to make the shortlist from Dholakias considerable back catalogue .

V

White
Sparrow (only the plain one)
Madras Toast
FUBAR Grunt (afaik, it’s made by Dholakia)

Dholakia Green. Now that Rosinski is out of snuff business and no one else makes green snuffs (bar Six Photo | Green Dragon), Dholakia could re-launch their green snuff, @Jonny.

(@Anton 's photo, found on this discussion thread: Dholakia Green and Sparrow (Green) - #4 by Anton)

Dholakia’s Green snuff is also mentioned here: Green Snuffs - #22 by snuffsahoy

I´m a bit wary of giving my opinion since even if the deal with Dholakia goes on I will only buy a modest quantity of it and feel somewhat responsible.

In my opinion some of the more extravagant offers made by them (lychee, wine & cheese, etc) are not worth saving, almost never see mentions to them in forums or reviews about them… but I think that their more “down to earth” snuffs can fare better (Swiss chocolate, White, Sparrow, Grunt, etc) and seem a bit more “mainstream”.

In the end it´s just your (and theirs) decision if it´s worth, ours are just opinions without seeing the complete picture.

Everything said I hope you get some type of arrangement to at least save some of their more emblematic snuffs from oblivion.

Update

I really appreciate your efforts and inputs into this thread, and I hope you are enjoying coming along for the ride behind the decision making

I think the reason I have been struggling to make a final call on the way forward is that, whilst we want to preserve as many snuffs as we can, Dholakia has clearly lost the desire to continue and instead want to throw their energies into nicotine pouches. As you know, they offered to continue a small range but for how long? And whilst the sales data may not be good over the last year, speaking to Dave, the previous CEO, I know they were never particularly good sellers.

So it’s time to make up my mind: I had a final conference with Kay this morning and my decision is that we will not be going forward with Dholakia.

The good news is that this opens up some slots in our inventory that we are looking to replace with some other, hopefully better, products. To that end we are actively seeking to create new relationships with manufacturers in Israel and Switzerland to see if we can bring them onboard and honestly, that feels more exciting and worthwhile to me.

Shame about the Swiss Chocolate product though. That was a good seller. Maybe see about getting that cloned

P

It’s the whites and the plains that you’ll miss most from their ranges. Get more options of those in and you’ll be fine .

V

Not a big loss in my books. Just keep 41 Photo White Elephant in stock (pricing still needs a revision), and maybe start carrying more Madras type snuffs - there are quite a few manufacturers.

Imho, Dholakia wasn’t good at making black snuff - Six Photo cannot be beaten in this category.

Their White was OK, but inferior to 41P Elephant.

F

Personally, I think it would be a big loss for the snuff industry if Dholakia stopped producing snuff. They were the first company from India to reach out to an international customer, so it was definitely a milestone. However, I have a big complaint about their marketing, because instead of focusing on perfecting their products, they had a habit of releasing series of a dozen or so snuffs of questionable quality. Swiss Chocolate is excellent, Manjul is excellent and they also had a great naswar called “Taj” (which is a copy of their sister company’s snuff - Majalanil). And of course, the delicious Roasted Nut.

P

We see waves of new online snuffers come and go over the years . I’ve only been online since 2010 but I’ve seen enough . A sizable minority of folk want the strongest , the fastest , the longest lasting etc etc . They most likely won’t end up there …but they want it in their baskets .

Personally I’m perfectly happy with Cheeta and perhaps Super Chetak , but I got to try everything to get there . I’ve had White Elephants that were amazing ‘tripping balls’ level snuff : I’ve also had them that were fairly pedestrian . You have got Janta now to pick up the slack in the ‘turbosnuff’ category . Not too familiar with their range but their rustica seems to pack a punch .

Like Volunge says , there’s always a healthy interest in Madras snuff too .
