Dholakia Black verse Dholakia African

No, I said Magnet was a non-gwayi South African snuff. I din’t say it was bad, but I should have. :stuck_out_tongue:

I just thought they stopped makeing it and was trying to get a confirmation that they had or had not stopped making it. I really liked that one it was one of a kind.

‘Beauty must be in the nose of the beholder’ Truer words were seldom spoken…

Thank’s Stogie! bob- I found the magnet menthol interesting, still have some around here, but I’m not expecting it to have cellarred(sp?) well. Never had the peach, was there another?

Anything that smalls like cat crap on a shoe just doesn’t sound appealing to me. I had one snuff that smelled like potting soil. It is no longer in my possession with an intentionally undisclosed method of disposal.

air out the ammonia it’s easy you leave the lid of the tin for a little while and the ammonia smell is gone.

nah… the good´ol ammonia

I enjoy the ammonia this insures me it is still fermenting, and part of the joy to experience

I just muddle through the ammonia smell of the Taxi and NTSU. After a day or 2 of regular use all the opening and closing of the container takes care of that smell.

I never notice an ammonia smell. I just classify it as a “fresh” smell, and it doesn’t bother me in the least!

Fresh Ntsu reeks of ammonia, more so than any other snuff have tried. Some compare it to cat urine. I think its stronger than that. Some speculate that ammonia is added to the snuff beyond what occurs naturally. Some air the ammonia out for an hour before snuffing, but I like it ammonia and all. It seems to intensify the buzz.

I have just begun to snuff Dholakia African, in the snus type plastic tub. Here are my impressions… coarse, moist, can’t pin down the exact scent, but its reminiscent of the Taxi or Babeton blue. Only the slightest hint of menthol. I do not detect ammonia at all. Very high nic level. My first take on it is that its very similar to the Zulu style S. African snuffs, just like someone above mentioned. It has the back of my head throbbing just now…my personal indicator of high nicotine. I like it.

I found my tin to have almost a ‘rough’ texture to it. It is moist, but not Swedish Match Taxi moist. High sodium as well. Great for the nic hit. Not bad in the lip.

I actually enjoy Dholakia Black whereas the African is horrific on many levels. First the aroma is very off putting (IMHO). Also, far to coarse for my snuffing enjoyment.

I took a chance ordering 50g African during the 50% off sale at Mr. Snuff and what I got was totally not what I expected. I thought it would be like NTSU in colour, moistness and grind but it is brown, medium grind, and medium moisture. It has a bit of menthol and it’s a bit… different. I can’t pin down the scenting but it’s unlike any African snuff I’ve tried so far. I’ll have to spend a bit more time with it but I’m not loving it so far. Is it possible I got something mis-labelled? Here’s a pic beside some Black (which is every bit as good as I remember it).

@crullers - You had got me curious I just opened a 25g tub- 2yr old and mine is dark almost black and coarse grind. I was going to get Africa in Jan. but I had to restrain . I would contact @Manit_Joshi representing Dholakia . Looks like a quality control issue, mislabeling

Thanks @basement_shaman, I thought something wasn’t right when I opened it compared to what I’d read about it.

I’m no Dholakia expert, but based on the photo and your description, maybe you’ve got some Sparrow Cool by mistake? A fantastic snuff in its own right, but here’s hoping you get it cleared up.

No, it’s definitely not as fine and dry as Sparrow Cool and there is other scenting besides the menthol. I haven’t tried many of their other snuffs so I don’t know if it’s another snuff mislabelled or if it’s African scenting on a different tobacco base. I’ve notified Manit_Joshi from Dholakia in case it’s a production issue. I’m not too concerned about it even if it’s not quite what I expected, five bucks for 50g tobacco is a pretty good deal.

Dholakia Black has varied so much from batch to batch. I miss the earthy mint-chocolate dung thing from the earlier batches, it’s way less exciting now and definitely not as delicious.

The D. African I have is sort of like NTSU. Black, coarse, slight ammonia scent. Nothing at all like that photo. The D. Black is oily, messy, nice scent but very mild. I like it a lot, even though I hear its got the barnyard smell, which I guess I’m immune to since I live on a farm with goats and horses. In fact, when I clean their stalls in the barn, I always pinch something menthol to ward off the smells!
