Also I have a question! What does “Dholakia” mean? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsZkv-zfdl8
I am pretty sure that it is the family name.
I’m glad you are doing these vids. They have all been good and interesting, but more than that, there just isn’t many snuff vids on Youtube. I like the Black the most, because it is very nice, and snuffable. But the White, I actually think I like the taste of it more, but I find it near unsnuffable. If it was a coarser/moister grind, I’d love it.
Hey tom, are you TC462 on YouTube?
No, I don’t have a YT account.
The White doesn’t cause uncontrollable sneezing and sweating anymore, perhaps I’m becoming tolerant. I can take fairly heavy amounts now as well, chasing the elephant. Seems like the bigger the hit, the tamer it is. The grind is beyond fine, it seems to be a dispersant dust, similar to descriptions of weaponized anthrax. When I hydrated some Cob Dark, I put a box in the same chamber and it clumped, doesn’t seem to like any moisture; won’t do that again. Maybe my mixing skills are at fault, but though I tried mixing it with a variety of other snuffs, I’ve decided it’s better as it is, especially since I’ve become accustomed to it. It’s definitely the strangest snuff I have. Neither of them are favorites though.
Great reviews mrmaroon, i’m hoping to get these through any day now and was pleased to hear your thoughts on them both. When i started snuffing i looked around for information on snuff and looked at you tube, all i found was people sniffing up metre long lines of snuff so it is great that you are putting real information out there that treats snuff with the respect it deserves. Well done and keep up the good work.
If you guys want to tame the White and enhance the Black - Mix them! It is highly effective! I call my new snuff Dholakia grey!
Hey! I thought I invented Dholakia gray! I just tried this a couple days ago. It really works! Looks like hell though.
Wow, I’ll have to try the gray. I find the white very addictive and mixed with toque peanut butter is awesome. The black reminds me of cold wet peat moss, maybe being new to snuff my nose isn’t developed enough to enjoy the black.
Well, I was thinking about that mix, but I was going to call it Dholakia Black and Tan.
Well,I finally got a container each of the white and the black last week. I must have gotten some really fresh stuff, because about all I can smell in them is ammonia. The underlying scents are intriguing, but when I first opened them, all I got was ‘barnyard’. I kind of wish I had smaller containers to put smaller amounts in for airing out, as I bought 25g tins and feel bad leaving them open on my desk. Trying them again this morning: The white is still cat-box-ish(and very hard to sniff, it keeps hitting my throat no matter how lightly I try to sniff, even worse than Rooster), but I am starting to sense a lighter mild scent under it that I can’t quite identify or associate with anything. Makes me want to keep hitting it just to figure out what it smells like! The black is much earthier, still a little cow-patty smell in my nose - kind of takes me back to when I was a little kid running around my grandparent’s barn when they still had dairy cows. As the ammonia dissipates in my nose, the peat moss referenced above seems kind of accurate as it seems more of a fermented/composted scent. The nic rush is something else, though. I feel it these even more than with Rooster or Navy Scotch. Just a couple of apple-seed size hits and I am on the verge of getting the shakes!
so i jsut got my 25 gs of D. White. i ripped open my box opens my white, and took a big olf scoop on the back end of a plasticware knife and sniiiiifed it. omfg i almsot died! i wasnt expecting it. im used to doing that with scotch snuffs, but this snuff seams even finer. and bammo i sneezed and sneezed. omfg. very good snuff though! i just had to take it easy. very very tasty snuff! now riddle me this, am i the only one who detects a faint fishines in this snuff? im a big fan of canned fish products, so it isnt clsoe to being abad thing, but it almsot smells like a ever so slight hint of sardines? hmmmmm
It’s probably an additive in it. Some tradional english beers use fish scales for part of their production.
It would cause your snuff-boogs to drop out of suspension into your soup! Yikes!
Wolfwood, I detect a mysterious under-lying scent in the White, as well. I notice it to a different degree in the Sparrows as well.
Might it be the base tobacco used in Dholakia? I can really detect that flavor in the black.
Does anyone else detect an under note of gym socks in the White? It’s not offensive like the really bad gym socks but gym socks none the less. I’m completely addicted to the White. I’m trying to get through a 5g tim on WoS SS just to have the tin to carry White around in.
I wonder what makes it so white. Wood ashes??? Both are exceptional snuffs imho. I get a barnyard smell from the black that is not unpleasant.
The Dholakia website says that the white snuff is tobacco free. Not nicotine free mind you. Sorry if I am a little behind on trying new products. I’m still working on the old standards.
I don’t believe it’s tobacco free.
where do you see that. I looked at the site and don’t see anywhere that the white is tobacco free.
Guess that just about sums it up then!! Still going to try some for myself! The Wiz!
I suppose depending on the definition of tobacco free that you could yield a nicotine snuff from tobacco using a certain “recipe”. Just as mint can yield menthol yet menthol is not mint. Certainly very interesting indeed.
http://www.snuff.co.in/perfumed\\_snuff.html#dholakia\\_white This is where I looked. Very interesting indeed. Please enlighten us.
Maybe they use tomato leafs! Or weed…
I believe they are referring to a white snuff they have made for a long time when they say tobacco free, not the new Dholakia White that is so popular overseas. Wilson and several other companies make a white tobacco free snuff also.
The new Dholakia White is not like the tobacco free white snuffs other places make at all. To me, this just has to be tobacco, and if not, I am really curious what it is, because it is not glucose at all. I think it is tobacco, 95% sure of myself. If it wasn’t, the can would say Tobacco Free and not have a warning.
I agree, I’m sure they’re referring to a different product.
Besides, it smells and tastes of tobacco.
And there is a picture of a tobacco leaf on the label!
Let’s ask Namrata. I’ve sent Namrata an email and asked her to please post her reply here.
hello guys!!!wish you all happy and happening new year. well it was so sweet of my friend pieter to mail on behalf of all snuff lovers. thanks pieter! Dholakia White Snuff is super fine dry tobacco snuff powder made as per age old indian tredesional receipe. it gives quick and strong nicotine hite very popular overseas. yes we do have herbal non tobacco snuff—which is made out of pure indian herbal ingrediances…which has no warning or tobacco indication on the pack!
Thank you Namrata for responding straight away!
I may have missed it, wouldn’t be the first time. How predominant is the scent in either the Black or White? Would either be a reasonably “neutral” snuff to use as a mix with something like, say, Toque Peach or WoS choc/orange as example, to kick up the nic content without skewing the original aroma?
I don’t think I’d call either one “neutral”. They both are pretty strong flavors, and hard to describe. Dholakia Sparrow is pretty neutral though, I’d say.
Thanks Tom Using Toque Quit to augment the nic content isn’t to bad actually. Didn’t know what the Black or White might have for aroma, haven’t tried em’ yet.
I’ve tried white for the first time with my most recent order. I enjoy it, and boy does it command respect! I do like it on it’s own though I usually end up sending straight to the back of my throat no matter which way I modify my snuffing technique. That being the case, I have begun to experiment with adding it to other varities from my snuff collection. It seems to work very well as a mixer with alot of things (at least to me anyway). It seems whatever I mix it into definitely gets a nicotine boost. It’s good stuff. I haven’t tried the black yet, I definietly will with my next order from Tom.
I can’t wait to try it. For me ironicaly the finer a snuff is the less chance I’ll get it in my throat because I’am extra special carefull not to sniff to hard.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but got some Dholakia White in to-day and was immediately punished for my presumption! I have never seen a snuff so finely ground. Does anyone have secret knowledge on how to snuff this stuff? I can snuff scotches all day without missing a beat, but this stuff makes Garrett look like Bernards Brasil!
I found that actually trying to snuff softly does not work with this one at all. Expect pain no matter how well you do - this is a masochist’s snuff. When I get the desire, I place about half the amount on the back of my hand that I would do with a toast or scotch. Then, I place my hand just under my nostril and rapidly open my mouth to create ever-so-slight suction. Bam!!! PAIN! but not as bad as if I had snuffed it regularly. Tread softly with this one. Oh yeah, and it seems easier to take if you are drunk (found that out due to a bet with a buddy of mine - lol).
Try licking your fingers and then just rubbing it into the septum. Hold your breath until it all sticks.
Thanks for some new “out of context” quotes, guys.
Hey Mr maroon Thanks for all your reviews on youtube, very helpful to newbies like myself. Thanks for taking the time to do those my friend.
Mix the White with Toque Natural and then let it sit a day or two. More managable this way
when i first got mi dholakia white i almost died but after using it a lot you get use to it.now i use it all day with no problems. one of the best.so give it a chance and i promise you will love it for what it is.
Discovering these two has been an epiphany. I’ll never be without.
Being an old Kool and sometimes Newport smoker, I find the pain to be part of the pleasure. One thing that helps for me, however, to keep it from flying too much down my throat is to take a pinch and keep my fingers about 1/4 inch below my nose, instead of putting my fingers actually against my nostril. This helps me take any toast, scotch or WND (weapon of nasal destruction) like Dohlakia White.
I just tried White for the first time, and can say that to me, it is the most potent snuff I’ve experienced. Very intense burn, followed by a creamy taste. I think I have a fairly high nicotine tolerance, but this stuff makes the room spin, and as such, is most satisfying. Puts Rooster in the dust, as far as strength. I love it!
Oh, and MrMaroon, thanks for the great review!
I like Dholokia white quite a bit. Mostly I use it to clear my nose of previous scents and then I can move on to others.
I just tried my first pinch of this snuff tonight, and oh my god its hard to sniff! I hacked up a lung when i inhaled, but was it worth it. I found the only way i can take it is by holding my nostrils together but only leaving a tiny crack, then sniffing lightly
I find its best used in a bullet. It suits the small dosing chamber and gets you used to a standardised pinch. Thats also a great method if you are weakening towards a cigarette; the uptake of nicotine from a bullet dose always feels like a drag on a cig to me.
