Anyone NOT like High Dry Toast?

Now it’s getting interesting! @Snuffalufagis, is 50/50 dry and fine like St. James, or moister and coarser? How’s the nicotine? I find St. James one of the strongest snuffs. I owe @tobaccobob for introducing me to this pleasure.

@volunge I really cant find a difference in nic, I’ve been a smoker for 17 years and really cant discern a buzz unless its first thing in the morning. However I dont seem to chain pinch with either. They are both fine and dry, with the 50/50 being a few shades darker brown.

@Snuffalufagis, thanks, sounds like they are similar in nic. I’m not chasing the buzz either, only fixing my regular cravings, but I’m fairly sensitive to nicotine fluctuation, especially when it comes to lower potency. Some snuffs simply don’t make it for me and even chain pinching doesn’t help. Havana toast is one of them, as well as Tears of Chios, Thrice Brewed, Latakia Blend and Roslein. Quality tobacco really shines there, all neat snuffs them, but lacking in nicotine.

@volunge I actually found thrice brewed to be very good for nic, what was the moisture and grind? Mine seemed dry for as course as it is. I really found havana toast lacking all around, I really dont enjoy it on any level.

@Snuffalufagis, I was treated with a generous sample of TB. It was dried out, but easily rehydrated. However, despite it being fortified with tobacco extract, I found it well below the expected medium-to-high potency. The thing is, TB recipe doesn’t mention any alkalizers, and it seems that re-creating this snuff, snuff maker followed recipe to the letter. A small deviance would be very welcome, though - I’m sure this snuff (and those other few mentioned in my previous post) would benefit from a tad higher pH… St. James and Lundy are great examples of high pH virtues.

Im going to differ here and admit that I really dont get on with HDT at all. That butter taste seems to build up toa cresendo and becomes overly powerfull. Add the fact that it is very fine and you have the recipe for a sneeze and taste sensation.

I think F&T HDT is unique but to say it’s the best toast would be a stretch.  It’s really not that powerful, at least compared to other toasts.  The texture is different, which makes it pleasant

Overall it’s good.  I think IHT #22 is a little bit better.  They serve their own purposes though

My favorite toast is Samuel Gawith Irish D.  It serves every purpose

I prefer Irish 22 a lot more than HDT.

I also can’t believe it when some people say that HDT and Irish 22 are the same. For me they very distinctively different.

For me Irish 22 has more burn off the bat and has a milder toasty and nutty aroma. I can easily take this all day with pleasure.

HDT takes a bit more time to give a weaker but long burn, but I find it has more of a leather and smoky aroma which leaves me with a sickly feeling. I struggle to take HDT after a few bumps as it leaves me with a this sickly feeling in my gut.

Samuel Gawith Irish D was a bit of a disappointment for me as it had a weak burn and a drab earthy scent which did nothing for me.
