HDT is probably my favorite toast, but I go through phases where I don’t use toasts much. If dry toasts are on one end of the scale and dark moist schmaltzers (sp?) are on the other, right this minute I’m leaning towards the moist ones. Eventually I’ll lean back towards the dry side, and be all about the HDT for a while. One of the things I’ve enjoyed about this forum over the years is that there has never been any of the “oh, you don’t like HDT? Run along, the grown-ups are talking” kind of attitude that so many of the older snuff forums had.
I myself change up the rotation come spring and summer time. More of the dark and similar snuff. Love toasts but seem to use those more in the colder months. May try some of the fruity ones I have for spring time.
I like the scent and nicotine of HDT but it gives my nose the runs big time and has an irritating nose feel.
I love HDT, but for some bizarre reason, it makes me hungry! I can’t take it at the moment because I’m trying to lose my beer gut
Just tried some today. It’s alright. My opinion may change I just got a package today in with it and, have been shoving the whole thing up my nose. It was a bad idea but, I can probably at least tell if I hate one.
New tin received, italic lettering on the top label, everything back to where it stood with my first tin, or almost: no more ammonia scent or grit, just buttery aroma and soft feeling. Batch variance was great with this one, and I have the two tins to compare. Such a fine produce, that changes character subjected to even the most subtle crop or process changes! Snuff should be up there with wine.
Dose the “NOT” mean “Need Offen Today” ?? That’s what I get from description of discussion!! “IMO”.
There are times when I wished everyone hated HDT. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about running out.
I know a few members here not like hdt: If NOT is short for Nuts Over Toasts 8-}

Haha. No, then they’d cease production. But don’t worry, I don’t think it’s going to happen today or tomorrow.
I LOVE HDT. BUT… I am fortunate to have been given a nearly 20 year old tin of HDT (or so I have been told) about which I started a thread some time ago. It is quite different and better, I must say. If you are interested here is the link to that thread… http://www.snuffhouse.org/discussion/8970/older-vs-new-high-dry-toast-dating-flavor-differences#latest
I am a recent initiate to HDT. My first impression when opening the tin: quick sniff of the lid; oh good gods this is buttery, bready, nutty amazingness; then a spoonful; then a coughing fit; then another careful spoonful taken from the back of the hand…aaaand now I can’t stop. It’s so beautiful. This is everything I expected snuff to be. This and OM Ecrous Brulee, that is. I think I could be happy with nothing but those two (and maybe McC’s O&G) forever and ever. Maybe.
There are some folk that don’t get along with fine dry snuff, there was a thread not so long ago on the subject. For me I buy HDT & IHT#22 in bulk. At Lunecat Towers HDT and Lundy Foot are never put back into the store box. I like them so much. About three months ago I bought 8X50g HDT as SnuffStore has a 1/3 discount offer. I wish I had bought double that amount now.
The only issue I have with dry snuff is that it’s hard to get it to stick later in the day, it all seems to just fall back out of my nose, leading to a brown powdered shirt, keyboard, desk, you name it.
I don’t like HDT and will never again buy any of the toasts, neither will i buy any menthols…I will keep the tub of hedges for when i am a bit blocked…but never again will i touch a toast or a HDT.
Im a bit of a kiljoy, but for me good snuff is plain snuff with a good nicotine hit, a little moisture and a medium grind…I’m starting to think your regular JH Wilson No 1, or your WoS Best SP are the best …not too much scent and a nice basic snuff.
@havregryn I stopped loving it based on my perception that it got smokier and less nutty. I thought it used to smell quite similar to Irish No22 but with a hint of smokiness. There are batch variations in all snuffs, though- even the artisan ones.
what is funny is I have a cold right now. Started working custodial work at a daycare and of course got a pretty nasty cold and right now my toasts smell like someone up there described them, to have a kind of burnt plastic scent. Rest of the time they smell like pipe tobacco or cigars to me. Toasts are just one of my favorites.
I’m now a convert…this HDT smells delicioius all of a sudden , and it packs a decent punch. Everything i want from a snuff. I now Love this stuff with a vengeance…
Haha
Great snuff, although the little tins tend to be overfilled and a lot spills any time I open, also not a snuff I can easily take in public as no matter what technique outside of breathing through my mouth for 20 minutes it will get to my throat and cause some coughing. I tend to mix with the toque toasts to increase the overall particle weight which solves this, HDT + toque lime toast, almond toast, bourbon, sounds strange but is delicious.
