What's your snuffing in public etiquette?

it’s just tobacco snuff it. God how sad is it that someone would do something totaly legal as if they had to hide it. If an officer stops you use your words. Maybe the only time not to snuff in public is when doing something illegal too. Of course I’ve smoked roll ups for a long time and definatly got used to having people think it was a joint.

People have an instinctive fear of embarassment. Actually no one cares, like Tony I’ve never had any problems.

Same here I’ve never encountered any problems. Like I said earlier in this thread snuff taking has never died out round here what with it being an ex-mining community. @ all our American/Canadian friends: why hide it? Why go into a toilet or somewhere else private? You’re not doing anything illegal ffs! Snuff with pride, if any coppers have a problem tell them where to stick it! It’s tobacco FFS not cocaine! Stefan

I’m certainly not frightened of the police busting me for snuff. And I’m not easily embarrassed. I’m more concerned about people seeing and making silent assumptions. And particularly when they can make subsequent decisions impacting me, based on those assumptions. I tend to use snus in ‘public’ and snuff whenever I’m in a setting where I can explain what I’m doing to those who might see me. I pinch at my desk all day. My immediate colleagues have seen, asked, and received an explanation. If someone pops into my cubicle while I’m pinching, I’ll take one, offer one, and explain briefly what it is. It’s not shame, but a sad acceptance that people judge others as they are themselves. And I’m sure many more have knowledge of coke than have knowledge of snuff. If I’m at a bar, and all the people in my group know about snuff, pinch away. If I’m at a company picnic, it’s just not worth it to me to pinch. I applaud those who don’t care, but I see that attitude as having a potential considerable social cost. No one knows I’m not popping a piece of gum when I take a snus in a meeting. , I prefer snuff. But there are times when I do prefer snus, especially when I require its hands-free operation. Has anyone ever taken a pinch on a moving motorcycle?

I snuff anywhere, anytime. I especially enjoy snuffing anywhere where smoking is banned.

I just take a pinch and go on. Never had anyone say anything except in the Winter when a drip looks like a bloody nose. What I want to know is, “What is your Wet Shaving in public etiquette?”

Like a guy at my company said about smoking: “I’m cutting back. I don’t do it in the shower, while I’m sleeping, or at church. A man has to have his limits, after all!” Seriously, though, I’m not to a point of addiction/nicotine level maintenance. When I’m at home, I’ll often pinch every few minutes. At work, I usually pinch some on breaks. I work in an accounting/customer service position in retail, so I don’t have a ton of privacy to take a pinch (or chew gum, etc). I will, however, duck into the “accounting office” (a glorified closet with 3/4 height walls) and have a pinch or two when things get crazy. When I have a bullet with me, I go through a lot more snuff in that setting. Around family, I don’t do it except in the bathroom, etc. My family and my in-laws are pretty seriously anti-tobacco and it’s not worth the hassle. Around friends, I know who it will bother and who it won’t. And even a few will accept a pinch when offered.

At work and school I don’t snuff because that is a place where it could cause some trouble and where peoples assumptions do matter enough to give a fuck about them.

Just open the can and take a pinch. People frown, talk or whisper and I don’t care, lol!

I never take a pinch while I’m in church, otherwise I don’t give a damn about what people think. But, that’s my motto in life, what you think about me can’t harm or injure me. So, go ahead and be my guest.

I’ve had more people assume it’s some type of herbal remedy then some sort of drug. Unless it’s from a bullet which I have to admit I enjoy disapointing cocaine fans (though pinching has never done that).

I have been snuffing at a local bar for quite a while now. Just recently, it has drawn quite a bit of interest. I have had about 6 people go ahead and give it a try. 4 out of 6 seem to really like it. In south florida, many seemed to think I was doing something illegal, but after a while, they started asking and the response has been pretty damn good. I take some hedges with me all the time now, as that seems to be the favorite among people trying it for the first time. I now have people asking me for a pinch almost every time I go into the bar now. It seems that my little corner of the world is not only accepting to the practice of taking snuff, but people are enjoying it with me also. Perhaps there is some hope!

Rans brings up an interesting point. A large percentage of people who have a positive reaction the first time I offer them a pinch of snuff are initially attracted to the menthol.

Yes that’s true for me also. The most positive responses from first-time-snuff-takers come from those to whom I have offered some O&G or Gletscherprise.

Dholakia Swiss Chocolate can also be pretty noob friendly.

That’s because menthols are more forgiving than others. My first snuff was menthol though now I don’t care for it much…

Pinch here, pinch there, pinch everywhwere. I will be respectful when visiting peoples homes unless it’s close friends. I even pinch at work and they don’t seem to mind. Don’t pinch infront of cops though cause I’m not stupid and this is not the UK or India.

I’m surprised that @Rans has found that Hedges is “the favourite” for people trying snuff for the first time. As others have suggested, there are certain menthols which can be good for people who haven’t tried snuff before… but Hedges is pretty damn intense, particularly for a newcomer!

That’s a good point Sloth. I’m curious as to why mentholated snuffs never caught on with the rave crowd. It seems like a better alternative to inhaling Vick’s on the dance floor. I’m too old to have any first hand experience with that scene and I don’t touch MDMA. Who knows?

Spyro good call. I think that might be the reason that every single raver I’ve ever met is an idiot and more boring then toast. General rule I have if everyone who does something seems stupid it probably is too.
