Lots of houseplants helps humidify the air. We dry our laundry on a rack next to the wood stove, that helps, too. Lots of water where I live, a lake 2 blocks to the south and the ocean 2 blocks to the north; if anything too much humidity is a problem here. Have you considered moving to a climate that wouldn’t test your lungs so severely?
I have considered it but even if the funds were there I would not want to stray too far from my children.
hang on… these americans have been whinging at -30 and -40 degrees? no wonder they never usually specify its farenheit. whats everyone complaining at? -4C isnt that bad.
Oh you have got to be kidding me? I have barely been able to breathe with the cold air. Once it hits 40°F I can’t even walk at a brisk pace without the air destroying my lungs.
Then you should stay the hell out of Canada! It’s already been as low as -32 degrees Celsius (that’s -26 to you yanks) this year and with the wind chill it was more like -40 and that’s in Southern Ontario and its ALWAYS colder in February. -4 degrees is a warm day in winter. And they aren’t whining at -40 there whining at 40. I remember a couple years ago California got less than 1cm of snow and there was on average a car accident every 10 seconds
I stalked, killed and ate a giant Polar Bear. Then I woke up and took a hot shower and had a big snoot of IHT 22

I realise my mistake, I shouldve checked haha. 4C! thats even warmer!
5 minutes ago in Poland. I hate snow.
@n9inchnails @Firestarter0 simply meant that it’s unusually cold this year in America is all apparently, you have colder weather regularly-- understood. no one “whining” or what not, it’s just not the usual weather in America this Winter and some people very unprepared for it-- so I thought it would be interesting to find how fellow yank snuff takers here were dealing with it.
Actually General, I was totally whining. I admit it.
@harlequin Understood of course I just meant that I didn’t start the thread as a “whine”
So far it has been unususally warm here in the SW corner of the USA, it was 50F (10C) and sunny, so I walked the dog over the lunch hour. Winters are really dry here so I tend to either smoke a pipe or stick to schmalzlers.
California has also been having an unusually warm spell. It’s been about 75 F for the last couple of days in San Francisco, which would be considered a warm summer day in San Francisco. I’ve been out and about with just a t-shirt, and I’ve seen other with shorts and a t-shirt.
21.2°F in Poland now Now it is common winter I’m laying in my bed covered with quilt, drinking hot tea and snuffing Elmo’s.
3°F Man
@Roderick, no, I live in Bydgoszcz - 360 kilometres north from Kraków. In Kraków is much warmer today, ~21°F. And yes - commieblocks are in every single Polish city. They look pretty much the same, despite some few small differences, but they are all big, simple modernistic cuboids. 18 million Poles live in those. Commieblocks are just housing machines .
Staying indoors and doing some long neglected pipe cleaning. The down fall of a large pipe collection , Well I got 8 done and left some cake. now my bowls are much wider and tastier also, only 50 or more to get to. Dam this P.A.D.
Northern Colorado has been well below freezing lately, and I’ve been plowing snow it seems like every day, for the last week. Well, really since November. I’ve been drinking lots of coffee, taking tons of snuff, playing guitar, working at my job shipping and inventorying art on paper. Trying to enlarge my snuff collection, rehydrate some vintage Wilson’s Dartmoor, Cyprus and Tom Buck. Practicing w/ girlfriend to play at local open mike night.
Enjoying the wonderful weather. Don’t you all snowboard? B-) Unfortunately, snowboarding is the only time I don’t snuff. It just makes a mess. Snus fills the gap.
18°C in Greece, Ahhhhh i miss so much to see snow, last time that snowing well for 3 days with no stop was 1987 i remember that, after that snow, it snow only for one day of 365 and for few hours, what happened to you Mr Winter?
Supposed to get another foot dumped on us tonight Will make work hella stressful for sure! BUT I’m still looking forward to it. Snow is no big deal in most places but it is here— everything shuts down as we don’t get much snow and the state is ill-prepared to deal with it… anyhow, after living/working/driving in upstate NY for 4 years about a decade ago, it doesn’t bother me-- so it’s nice when the southland shuts down and wife and I can have our run of it
without hardly anyone around
