Strategies for Shipping Mysteries

I’m sure this has been discussed elsewhere in the past, but I’d like to highlight it presently. I placed a large order with Mr. Snuff that shipped between 9/7/11 and 9/9/11. I received a Royal Mail tracking number. It has now been 15 days and haven’t received it. Unfortunately, the RM and Mr. Snuff policy is to wait 28 days until action may be taken. I talked to my local US Post Office today and they haven’t seen the package and haven’t any idea of what to do to try and find it (which I find dubious and puzzling in an of itself…). When I attempt to track and trace from the Royal Mail website with the tracking number, it informs me that the package has made it to the U.S. and is in the hands of USPS for delivery in the U.S… I assume that this means it has cleared customs, but I’m not sure. So, now I’m in limbo. It would be nice if USPS and Royal mail had a reciprocal system wherein you use the RM tracking # until it reaches the U.S. at which point it receives a USPS tracking number. This way I would at least know generally where it is. Does anyone have experience with this or know what I should do next? Thanks.

It took a little over two weeks for my last order to arrive in the US (placed at the end of August).

Who knows how long it may take to get through customs? Mine have gone through without any problems (10 days) but if you have a militant, anti-tobacco, customs officer checking it out, who knows? Even worse would be an ATF wan’na be checking your package! ATF is The US Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Agency. (The “explosives” bit is new, so it is still known as ATF.)

If you have a tracking number, why not just track it and see where it is? If memory serves, you can track it from your account on Mr. Snuff’s site.

@howdydave, yes, there’s a part of me that fears it was “randomly selected for additional screening” even though Mr. Snuff is quite observant in filling out the appropriate customs paperwork. The problem with the tracking number is that, as it is a Royal Mail number, its tracking utility apparently stops as soon as it is within the jurisdiction of the US. So when I track it from the RM site, it simply says it has arrived in the US and is being given to USPS for delivery here. I counted an alternative plan for the date that the royal mail tracking was initiated rather than when te confirmation email from Mr. Snuff said it had been shipped. These dates are two days apart, so that makes tomorrow 14 days since posted by RM. After tomorrow I think I’ll start worrying more.

I would worry less. I would also not waste money on tracking. It gets here when it gets here.

I didn’t have a choice on the tracking. The options included tracking regardless.

Unfortunately the reciprocal tracking thing doesn’t even exist for GB <-> Republic of Ireland mail. I recently sent an important letter to Galway via the most expensive Royal Mail postal option, and even then I could only track it as far as the last UK sorting office. If Mr. Snuff were based a few miles further south, us Brits would have to pay international shipping too!

The olive wood pipe I bought on eBay took more than 6 weeks to reach me. The seller tracked it from his side and was told by the Canadian postal no-service that the package was lost. He refunded my money. Then, at last, it popped up and I paid the seller again.

I’ve had orders take 4 days and some 3 weeks, don’t worry it will get there. if not wait the 28 days and tell mr snuff they will file with RM and resend. Toque will do the same. some times the 1st order will get to you after the replacement order is delivered. I recieved an empty envelope from Mr Snuff 35 days after ordering from Mr Snuff. In was shipped then after 28 days I let them know I haven’t received it. They reshipped got it in 7 days, then the envelope came, it was cut down the side, guess customs had openend it and didn’t securly reseal it. it came out okay because of the replacement order from Mr Snuff. edm

@DPadraig: sorry for your order taking so long. It is the most frustrating part of this whole enterprise. It is not even so much the time, but rather th eincosistency. Typically we’ll reship after three weeks and if both orders show up most people let us know and pay for the second or ship it back. Quite honestly we have never had a successful post office claim - but then again there have only ever been two, since the parcels always (eventually) get through. You can track it on usps with the same tracking number. However in common with most govt run mail services it is hit or miss. In other words their tracking sometime consists of telling you it has arrived. What’s your order number and I’ll check it out? Msg me here or use the contact us on https://mrsnuff.com/store/contact\_us.php Thanks Dave

Also if the order is above £32, then you have to send it Signed For. I think that is a Royal Mail requirement for sending anywhere. Stefan

@mr.snuff thanks, Dave. I know it’s not your fault and I don’t mean to insinuate that it is. The only reason that I’m worried that it hasn’t arrived yet is that my other two orders from Mr. Snuff and Toque took 7 days each time.

@DPadraig: I know I told you by PM but i may as well post it here to closet he thread: I just checked and it arrived today, which is great news. Tracking, as suspected was not actually tracking in this case, merely delivery confirmation. I have changed the shipping options a little bit. Before I required ISF or Airsure for orders above $70 which is the insurance limit on regular airmail. These options give peace of mind and increased insurance coverage. Also since we always reship if customers tell us an order has not shown up, then this is obviously open to abuse. If someone places an order and we have no delivery confirmation they could claim it did not show up when in fact it did. However this attitude is a bit cynical I now think. Very few people, especially snuffers, are actually dishonest, and so few orders ever actually go missing. So I have raised the regular airmail limit to $100. If anybody has any comments or suggestions please let me know. The main point is to provide the service that people want, so truly, suggestions are welcomed. Dave

Thanks very much, Dave. I appreciate your having gone the extra mile. This is another reason why I am and will remain a repeat customer!
