That being said, I’ve talked to a few tobacco junkies who claimed to be familiar with nasal snuff but I’ve never once seen anybody using it in person, other than the 1 or 2 people I’ve offered it to and they accepted.

When I first started taking snuff in public in the early 80s I was always convinced people thought it was weird but Ive been doing it so long I never notice now. I wonder how much of it was just my own sense of unease. Ive handed it round at meetings at work and been surprised how often people would take a pinch without batting an eye. There are a lot of us out there (or else you woudn’t be able to buy SP at just about every small shop in the UK - we just tend to be a discrete bunch. Snuff with abandon I say…
51 male USA. I guess I was 46 when I started taking snuff.
53, male, USA Having strong roots in the American south, despite being born in Ohio, I knew about snuff from a young age, but the folks that used it were almost exclusively old ladies who dipped it. I only knew of nasal use through historical depictions in movies. The people around me who know I take snuff seem pretty cool with it, although few are willing to sample a pinch themselves. Of course, the people I work and socialize with would nearly all be categorized as open-minded and at least slightly eccentric.

The bi-variant frequency distribution could then be filtered through a chi-square for a test of statistical significance. I’ve never seen such a study but my guess is that an association does exist - it just needs to be demonstrated to a level of statistical certainty.
