As ages came up in the recent Wired article, lets try to see what the average age of snufftakers is by doing our own completely unscientific poll. Are we all young “hipsters?” Please tell me your age and I will just do the math and maintain an average. I’ll edit the title of the post as you send me your ages. You can post in whisper if you want to keep it private. I will not disclose to anyone. I’ll start with me. I’m 37 and so with one member reporting the average is 37. Currently 89 members reporting. I have now incorporated the results of the last poll into this one. If you answered the last poll (the one Leman links to above) I have already counted you. I added one year to your age then (even if its only been 7-8 months since then). If you answered this one, don’t worry, I did not count you twice. It seems the average is still holding around 37. I guess that makes me average

Well, I’ll help bring down the average. 19 here, although far from hip. Then again, I can’t think of anyone who could be called a hipster who uses the word hip.

Well, the UK is now the home of the oldest living man in the world. His name is Henry and he attributes his longevity to whisky and wild women. He is also 1 of 2 living WWI vets. Anyway, since he’s old school and a brit, I’m gonna assume he is a snuffer. So, let’s see how the average comes out when we add a 113 yr old man. Well, it’s not “trendy” at all, that I can see. In fact, at least in the US, it’s odd and rare. But I always liked the more peculiar things, more of an anti-trend.

I hope the average keeps getting bumped up so I don’t have to feel old. I’m 39. I was 38 when Pieter Claassen started the thread “AVERGAE AGE OF FORUM MEMBERS”. I think we were measuring in algae years though.

I’m really happy to see the average is so low. I’m in good company, it’s not an “ou oom ding” anymore and the snuff makers will have to watch what they are doing. Good news, really very good news. Ou oom = old man/fossil

36, myself, but, with me as with marine engines, it’s not the you gotta watch out for, it’s not the age of the equipment, but rather the total running hours, you gotta count. Hip? hell, I don’t own a cell phone, don’t own a car, and wear clothes from dollar general and the second-hand shop (for dressier stuff). Hip I’m not.

39 years of age although i feel at least 109 most mornings. The strange thing about age is its relationship with time, when your a kid a school day seems really long but as you get older by the time you have woken up had a coffee a snuff and made yourself feel human again and done a few jobs its time to go back to bed how odd is that.

Time goes faster as one gets older.

While something described as “hip” denotes it is nothing but a passing fab, but there is nothing really wrong with more trendy people taking snuff. After all, it was the father of dandyism, Beau Brummell, who made snuff immensely popular in Regency England.

Well since this thread has slowed to a trickle, I guess its time to conlcude the survey. A total of 89 members responded (including the previous poll). The average age was 36.58, which was no suprise as most reporting members were either in their 30s or 40s. So the median age is also pretty close to 37. I’m not sure why this is, perhaps our board is just not interesting to the 20 something snuff takers if they are in big numbers someplace. Also we have a decided bias towards English speaking peoples. If snuff is “hip” in a lot of continental Europe, most of them may not have the interest in a primarily English speaking snuff board. Our members from Romania, Poland, Switzerland, Croatia, and Italy did tend towards the young side. It may also have something to do with the phase of life in which most of us are in. Thank you to everyone that participated, it has been interesting.

Between snuff, snus, and dip, I think the average age for snuff is the oldest, then snus, then dip, based on my experiences in the main forums for these items.

Average age of the USA is 37.7

Guys, I don’t have the talley sheet that I used to come up with the final figure anymore, so its all fine and good that you are posting your ages (and trying to lower the average) but I’m not going to go through tallying everything again. If the forum was set up to do polls, we could have one that never closes.
