your snuff community

F

i was wondering, as there are very few snuffers world wide, how many people do you know who take snuff and that you take snuff with? i know 9 fellow snuffers

W

zilch, zip, zero

T

0 as well. But sometimes, I might get a buddy to sniff some of what I have, but that’s rare.

N

I have brought several friends to using, and ordering snuff over the past few months even though I am fairly new to it myself. On a recent backpacking trip I went on with a couple of friends, they quickly ran out of cigs and we all enjoyed snuff several times a day from that point. Overall I have about 5 or 6 friends who use snuff now and we partake of it together regularly.

N

No one now.

W

About half a dozen here in my village. Stefan

E

I think the most I ever saw snuffing in the bar of the St Johns was 9. We’ll see how many there are this evening.

T

In the USA, nasal snuff is an oddball thing(or it seems that way to me). So, it would be very rare to to see, and rare even to find anyone who even knows about it. It’s all cigs and dip here, with a little chew. Even snus is an oddball thing, even with Camel snus being sold, and Scandinavian snus even more odd. My father who is 60 something smokes, and he refuses to even consider trying nasal snuff or snus.

W

so far 0 but a good potential and very good prospects for 3 (all of them medical people who smoke and want to qui and being medical people they might be even better at getting the word out once they themselves are ‘converted’)

A

my friend has managed to tempt a further 13 of us into snuff and i wouldn’t go as far to so we are the largest snuff community in the UK, not that is to much of an achievement but one none the less

A

Zero, but my brother and also people at work will have the odd pimch.

I have known one person and one person only who has taken snuff: my cousin. I think he just bought a box of Ozona President (don’t remember, but it looked like plastic mirror, had a flip top, and was very menthol like) to be seen snorting it to be cool. After he finished that tin, I have not seen him do it ever again, but that was the first time I ever tried it. I have gotten exactly 2 people to try it in the past (I am private about my little vice) over the years, and again, I never saw any of them subsequentlytrying it.

S

Just my girlfriend. Although I have had 2 people question me about it because they want to quit smoking, I’ve let them try it and they seemed to like it, so maybe they’ll start buying and using it.

B

none here

M

Like many, I’ve only had some friends/cousins give it a try…when we are together after we smoke a cigarette (this is the only time I have trouble with wanting to smoke) I will announce that it is time for some snuff, and before we get back to whatever it was we were doing, most everyone will have a pinch…but no one has taken it up like I have. @whistlrr…I’m one of those “medical people” who have been converted! An ot but interesting story…yesterday while at the doctor’s office having some blood drawn, I told the nurse that I smoke “2 or 3 or 4” cigarettes a month, but snuff all the time, and she was more concerned with those 2 cigarettes (and to my surprise, knew what snuff was)…lol…so I think word is going about, at least somewhat.

B

Does members of this board count? If so I know quite a few. LOL I know two people who snuff, both of which I introduced to it. Both were/are snus users so it wasn’t much of a fight. A few guys from another forum have asked me for advice. I usually send them here.

J

I have about a dozen. A least six that have their own snuffs now.

Z

Sometimes my cats stick their noses in a tin. That count?

J

I’ve had a few people try it, but most people just say, “Ew, weird,” and walk away…

N

Just my younger brother in Texas but the snuff he has are samples that I gave him, although he is a regular snuser.

A

I have three including my brother, all casual users of medicated snuffs, mainly McChrystal’s O&G.

T

I have about 6 or 7 friends who might take a pinch with me in the pub, but two members of my band are now pretty dedicated snuffers now, as well as another couple of friends who I introduced the Sacred Powder to. So 4 then.

H

I have one friend that snuffs a little, But he is the only one (he introduced me to snuff) that i know and he doesnt use it as often as me. Most of the times he does not look as interested as i in doing it or knowing better the different snuffs around. I would love to have more snuffing friends.

L

I don’t know anyone who uses snuff, and my students don’t like the fact that I use it at all. There used to be a place outside one of the campus buildings where I would go to smoke, and it became a socializing spot for many students. Now that I don’t smoke at work anymore, the campus police chase students away when they try to congregate there to smoke. They are constantly egging me on to start smoking again to recreate that social space that used to exist around smoking and bitching about current events. It’s very tempting.

T

You could still go there and snuff.

N

LHB, time to get the students snuffing?

L

I’ve tried to get them interested, to the point of actually stopping in the middle of a lecture to do a huge pinch, and sarcastically imitate the effects of an intense burn. But they think it’s crazy. My school has one of the very highest smoking rates among students in the country, however. It’s a conservative Catholic thing that I don’t fully understand.

F

0 here. In South Florida it’s mostly cigs and cigars, some dip and chew. I mostly use snus and haven’t seen/met anyone else that does. Tried to offer some to people I know that were trying to quit smoking or that used dip and they just gave me funny looks.

K

@LHB: Catholics do like smoking, don’t they? I once had a (low paying) job teaching medieval philosophy at an elite (expensive) Catholic girls’ prep school. It seemed to me than 9 out of 10 students were chain smokers, as were 99% of the nuns. The Mother Superior/principal kept a carton of Pall Malls on her desk alongside a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black. I estimated that she went through a few bottles per week. Oh, the stories I could tell about these nuns. They were just out of it. Oh, and the students were lousy. Half of them failed, but I soon discovered that it didn’t matter what grade I gave them. The “office” would override it and give them an “A” no matter what. Their parents were certainly shelling out a hell of a lot of money for these grades, I tell you that. Where did all that money go, I wonder? All the while, we “secular” instructors were barely earning a living wage. What a joke it all was.

B

I’ve actualy ran into several snuser. All of whom where suprised I knew what it was. All of them found it by not wanting to go nicotine less at bars. Snus is kind of a private hobby no one needs to know you do it.

J

That’s the one dim glow of hope I have post-PACT; with so many states going smokefree (my beloved Michigan coming this May, uurrrrrggghhh), actual Swedish snus just might take off!

J

Well, I have 1 friend who lives 8 hours away that snuff. Noone local. Although, in the last week, I’ve introduced two people to snuff and they both seemed to really like it so there is hope.

S

One guy I go to school with, I had let him try some WoS Xtra CoC a few weeks ago, well he showed up with his own tap out box of Ozona Spearmint

O

All online acquaintances. Those I know in the analog world see my use of snuff as some sort of anachronistic affectation! But they’re still smoking and I’m not…

J

@OTD I’ve been told that I have an ‘old soul’ due to my love of pipe tobacco, snuff, and while most people my age are sipping Jack and Coke I’m drinking Scotch on the rocks.

O

hehe Forget the ice; Bourbon, Scotch or Rum, straight shots all the way. Sadly I’ve the old body to go with my old soul… What I find interesting is that the folks I know that enjoy cigars and pipes for the taste and socializing aspects, flat refuse to even try snuff. All the more for those if us who do enjoy a pinch.

X

Putting ice in scotch is probably worse than putting menthol in snuff. It just needs a tiny spritz (tiny!) of water to “wake it up.” Once the flavor is allowed to bloom, the whisky can be sipped easily with full aroma and is smooth and mellow. 15 years ago I would have looked at that and thought I was nuts.

O

We all mellow eventually Xander (-;

L

I love a good Glenlivit 18 year, neat. Ice or water just ruins what is already an amazing thing when left by itself.

X

@ LincolnSnuff: I went to a whisky demonstration hosted by Glenlivit. They were the ones that showed me the water trick! You really only need wet your fingers under a tap or dipped from a glass. Then just flick your wet fingers at your whisky once or twice. The water drops will break the surface tension of all the natural oils in the whisky allowing the flavor to really bloom. Its just a spritz! Try it!

B

He’s right you know. I find it equal to the diffrence between brandy with snifter and without snifter.
