Schmalzlers

I’m getting an order together that includes the following Bernard Schmalzlers, which I’ve read good reviews on and which I think are significantly different from one another : Zwiefacher Brasil Feinst Brasil Doppelt Fermentiert Aecht Altbayerischer You opinions would be most welcome on this. Thanks, in advance. Z

Some good stuff in your order Z-2k Specially the Doppelt Fermentiert

I have had the Zwiefacher and the Brasil Feinst so far. The Zwiefacher is my favorite of the two it is lightly mentholated so it is easy to use all day. It is not hard to use a 10g in 2 days. I thought the Brasil Feinst was nice on taste but being so coarse it did not stay in the nose so I deem it just OK. May I suggest Klostermischung which I find a bit more flavorful than Brasil Feinst and does not have menthol either. I would not use any of them with my best shirt on because they can be messy. Happy snuffing.

While Klostermischung it excellent, its technically not a shmalzler. Though I recommend it. Having those 4 schmalzlers will give you a rounded sense of what they are all about as you have figured out. I don’t think there is a great deal of flavor variations in the two Brasil ones, its more of a grind difference as I recall. I think Zwiefacher achieves the marriage of snuff and schmalzler just right, which is why the couple on the box are so happy to be together! When I first tasted this (just a couple of days ago) I said wow, this is what Pöschl should be! Now before I get in trouble, I will say that Pöschl’s true schmalzlers are outstanding, and if you are ordering from Germany, they are worth getting.

The Alt Offenbacher Kostlich is one of MY favorites from Bernard but the Kownoer gets reordered soon too. That’s a good order though, I would snuff that.

Klostermischung is a Schmalzler@Xander: Bernard considers Klostermischung a Schmalzler. Funny thing about Bernards: On the back of their tins, they list their website as www.schmalzerfranzl.de, they spelled “Schmalzler” wrong! You have to type in www.schmalzlerfranzl.de. Talk about embarassing!

I’ve got: BERNARD’s: Klostermischung, Aecht Altbaperischer, 275 Jahre Jubiläums, Brasil Doppelt-Fermentiert, Zwiefacher, Feinster Kownoer and Alt-Offenbecher Kostlich POSCHL’s : Schmalzler A and Südfrucht. I love them all but if I may only pick one, it will be Klostermischung.

That sneaky monk! He says snuff “schnupftabak” on his tin! Your link takes me to the shop and Klostermishumg is indeed under schmalzler, but under “snuff” is Weiss-Blau Schmalzler. Its good though…

Now I’m on the main site and going through the gallery. Its under schmalzler there too. So be it.

Got some Brasil Fresco that came in a plastic bag. The snuff had kind of balled up about the size of an asprin pill, (maybe it comes this way?) and for a while I broke it up and snuffed it up. After a while I thought it may be nice to just stuff two balls in each nostil and Then squash them. Then I’m sitting there with a massive double dose-vey nice!!

I just got klosrrmischung and it rocks but after five minutes I get a grawgy slash burning sensation in my throat and is very uncomfortable and I have to spit it out. What is wrong with me ? How do I indulge in a shmalzler without this happening? Should I let some dry and grind it up finer? I’m sure someone here has dealt with this issue and it would be great if someone can shed some light on the subject .

I’m surprised that you are having this problem as it is an easy snuff to take. The only advice I can give is don’t dry it out and grind it finer, that would make your problem even worse.

Sounds like you are inhaling too hard. Schmalzler is the easiet snuff to take. Whatever you do DON’T re-grind it. Just lighten your sniff.

@Nosechaw954: I also have some Klostermischung and I find it a wonderfully satifying snuff. No after effects for me. It’s a pity you’re having problems with this jewel.

When I do it I don’t feel any discomfort it’s after five minutes it grawgs the he’ll out of me and I gotta cough it out, it’s a shame cause it tastes so good but that feeling is stopping me from murdering this 7 gram container in ten minutes. I’m using a bullet cause otherwise it falls out of my nose , think drying and drying some would atleast take away the delayed drip and disolve faster?

Drying and grinding*

@Nosechaw954: Take smaller ‘pinches’, and change your snuffing technique so that you don’t get it up in the top of your nose. Try taking the snuff outdoors and see if you can reduce the amount you need to take to get satisfaction from it. I find that snuffing indoors, particularly in an air-conditioned envoronmen,t really reduces the scent of snuff, and so I was struggling to get the scent like I get outdoors by taking more snuff…and suffering the sinus and troat issues you describe.

It’s so hard to take a small amount when u don’t feel it going in !I thought shmalzelers are supposed to be ingested in large amounts. I don’t see how keeping it inside the nose will provide a sufficiant nicotine dose for me . So am I supposed to make a nose plug of this stuff and not let it reach to deep? Like a nose quid instead of blast or pinch. Nothing else does this to me, I can rail rooster all day long and love the drip but the shmalzler drip feels like I swallowed a box jelly fish by accedent and it got stuck in my upper throat than I freak out and cough and spit franticly.I’ll try smaller pinches and see what it does

Ok, you should be aware, that Schmalzler is far shorter to be kept in the nose. Depends on how high your tolerance is (until secretion starts). So, if you keep snuff for about 8 minutes in, use Schmalzler for half of this time. Schmalzler is much less taken for nicotine, as it´s a bit of a poor performer there. It´s the excellent, deep flavouring that makes it worthwhile. One thing I always do, when taking Schmalzler is pressing the nose wings together. There´s far less of it falling out of the nose then.
