So, You got me to try Bernard Bernard Brasil Doppelt Fermentiert & Zweifacher. Now the BIG question is, If I like Bernard Brasil Ferment & Zweifacher I will like ??? We are only talking about Strictly Schmalzer’s (Non mentholated) As I understood almost all Schmalzer’s are non mentholated with some exceptions. like the Poschl Bayern Prise Brasil I understand it is a blend of regular snuff and Schmalzer. I got this one as well. But I’m asking about strictly Schmalzer. I don’t want to get off topic But, I like the two schmalzer’s mentioned on top and would not mind trying other ones. I am really having issues with my nose clogging up since I started using more snuffs. I stopped with for two days and it got much better. I know about the menthol’s and the oil based snuffs causing that. But the question is, can schmalzers cause it as well since they are oil based as well? or is it only the menthol. I am not sure %100 if its not the oil? I got so clogged up especially when laying down. I’m now using the Bernard Brasil again in moderation and I feel much better. But who can hold them’s self back??? And honestly. I’m afraid the scmalzer s turning me a away from Red Bull and other Poschls.
Have you tried Gekachelter Virginie ?
Get some of the Sternecker Echt Fresco Ungefettet and add your own oil/butter to a level that doesn’t clog your nose.
@Derek_007 Thanks is that a schmalzer?
@Friendlyman, it is a schmalzler. The four schmalzlers from Pöschl are Brazil A (which you already tested), Doppelaroma, Südfrucht and Perlesreuter. From Sternecker: Straubinger and Echt Fresco. Ungefettet Echt Fresco might help with the cloging if the parafin oil is causing it, as Ivan already said. This is a half ready schmalzler (why not a snuff, if moistured with water?), which needs the oil/butterschmalz to be added by the customer. Bernard typically says it rather clearly, is it a snuff or schmalzler. To name a few schmalzlers: Ächt altbayerisch, Regensburger Prise, Gekachelter Virginie, Schmalzlerfranz, Alt offenbar köstlich…
Bernstd Aecht Altbayerischer is a great schmalzler and translates as Old Bavarian. Also Klostermischung.
@Friendlyman have you tried any Samuel Gawith snuff? They’re easy to take and have a very large selection. I’m sure you’d find something to your liking.
I would like confirm something please. Dose zweifacher have menthol in it? I’m confused, I was told to try schmalzers because they don’t have menthol. I just read in a post that zweifacher dose have menthol? I’m wondering if this is the culprit that’s clogging me. I do not get clogged from Bernard Brazil and finished my first one. The zweifacher I have the tendency to shove loads up because it comes out a lot. And I started feeling some of the pressure again. And didn’t have it with the Bernard Brazil. So I need to find a list of Real non mentholated schmalzers.
@Franknsnuff thanks for the recommendations. Dose Samuel gawith make schmalzer?
@Friendlyman: Yes, Zweifacher HAS menthol, as it’s a mix between a strongly scented and very sweet Schmalzler with a finely ground, medicated snuff base (hence, it’s classed as a “halb-schmalzler” like the Bayern Prise, and I think that’s why it features two persons engaged in a dance, quite a beautiful metaphor). The closer thing I found without the menthol could be Magic Moments Black: strawberry, coconut and Brasil tobacco base.
@Friendlyman, Sam Gawith does not make schmalzlers, but some coarse ones indeed. Moistened with water, not with parafin oil.

Yes, and I think that S. Gawith-made Viking Dark bears some similarities with the also excellent Gekachelter Virginie while being much more agreeable and soft on the nose, at least to my experience, but I think it can be too plain for the taste of a Schmalzler fanatic.
@marvinlapsus @SkeG Do you now if @mrsnuff sells the Gekachelter Virginie? I did a search on his site and could find it. Could it be it’s spelled differently? or he just doesn’t have it? Which brand is it? Now that a few of you mentioned S. Gawith I’m thinking if I should give it give it a shot. A few years ago when I got interested in snuff I ordered a few different one. And S. Gawith was one of them. It was Black coffee and at the time I wasn’t to fond of it and hardly ever went back to it and then I just let it go. This week while emptying out a dark draw I found it there. And since I took a snuff break for two days to clear my nose it was tempting to see how it’s like. So again, while the coffee aroma didn’t interest me much. I found that the texture was eeasier to handle the the mentholated I’m used to. It is definitely to dryer because of it age. But it wasnt exposed to to much lite or heat. So maybe I should give it a shot. Now where do I start. Which ones to you say have the close Schmalzer tobacco aroma ?
@Friendlyman: It seems they’ve run out of it at the moment, or that they’re not stocking it anymore, as its page, still cached by google, returns a “Product not found!” line when loaded. I know they have it on snuffstore.de and the Bernard website. As for the Sam Gawith varieties, my experience with them is fairly limited. I know they produce some dark fruity blends which might be remotely similar to Schmalzler, but I think they have been reported by various members as being quite artificial in comparison . The saucing profile of their “Celtic Talisman” pipe tobacco (which used to be one of my blends of choice on the fairly short period I spent as a pipe smoker) was not that different to that of a Schmalzler, deep and fruity, and they do a snuff inspired on the product, but I have no clue as how it does compare to an actual Schmalzler.
Thanks, I have some decisions to make
@Friendlyman if Bernards still makes it we stock it. I will try to find out for sure what is going on.

@Friendlyman, Bernard Aecht Alt Schmalzler (I bet this is Ächt Altbayerischer Schmalzler ), Bernarnd Doppelt Fermentiert, Bernard Magic Moments, Bernard Brasil Feinst at least do not contain menthol. Nice cart you have there
Unfortunately, I am not too familiar with Sam Gawith either. I only have Elmo’s Reserve and Kendall Brown. Both coarse and tasty. Like Schmalzlers as such.
Just to weigh in, my opinion has always been that Gekachelter Virginie is not a Schmalzler. Schmalzlers have to have that Brasil tobacco base which is processed and cured and sauced in a certain way after having been imported from Brazil in the shape of mangotes, which are large animal skin packages (http://www.schmalzlerfranzl.de/module.php5?fid=7&ident=14&mod=vorlagen&setlang=en) and those produce that Schmalzler flavour which to my nose they all have in common. Gekachelter Virginie however doesn’t have that. Although it has the same darkness and consistency (not necessarily the moisture though), I would have a very hard time classifying it as a Schmalzler. It is a special, probably heritage, old style kind of snuff and very very good, but not a Schmalzler. In saying that, @mrsnuff, what is the situation at the moment? It still seems to be absent from the website and I would surely like to order some again in the future. I hope it is still being produced. Santo Domingo and De Kralingse Latakia come close but are not quite the same. Edit: Bernard on their own website do not put that snuff under the Schmalzler category either but under “other types” which also includes Kownoer, Alt Offenbacher and Civette. They call it a “very strong, smoked Virginia tobacco without any additional flavours”
