Does anyone have a schmalazer they hate? Not don’t like but find revolting?

A

No.

C

Never met done I didn’t like.

T

I really really really wanna try the Sudfruct (dunno how you spell it) “banana bomb” by Poschl but don’t want to buy a huge bag of it. Wish they had like 5-10 g tins of it

C

You willl need a huge bag of it. Schmalzler is taken in big quatities. you can order 25g bags of it here: http://mrsnuff.com/store/poschl-schmalzler-sudfrucht-p-774.html

T

I heard it was moreish

M

I wouldn’t say a 100 grams is huge, thats the size I buy. edm

B

all i have tried are good.

G

I’m enjoying some right now

B

the 100 grams isn’t as big as I imagined. It’s really more akin to 25 gram tin when you consider the way that it is used. I didn’t think anyone would have anything bad to say about the schmalazers. The only two I’ve tried are great. Remembered that one of the bernards I tried was one. Very excelent actualy.

T

Love 'em all!

B

I’ve loved every Schmalzler I’ve tried. Good stuff.

J

I don’t like the sudfrucht. Its just something about the flavor, I really don’t care for. It tastes artificial to me. Revolting is a strong word but put it this way, I wouldnt use it unless it was the last and only tobacco product I had and I couldn’t get anything else with nicotine in it…

B

I love sudfrucht myself

O

Never tried a Schmalzlar. Seems I should.

M

I have actually wanted to order sudfrucht for some time now. I’ve heard good things about it, and “tropical fruit” / “banana bomb” sounds pretty damn good to me

J

Yeah it sounded good to me too, Mikemoose! Just one of those things that ended up sounding much better than it turned out to be, for me. Sort of like the Scotch Black I got recently. Sounded really good but once I tried it…wasn’t as imagined it’d be. I’ll keep it and probably use it up someday but it won’t be any time soon…hahah

P

For me, as Xander put it, certain of the plainer sorts of Sam Gawith are the ‘grail’ of snuff. This has only been confirmed by experience. (Last night a good sniff of unpretentious Kendall Brown was the nicest pinch of snuff I’ve ever had - wonderful.) When Snuffhouse is given the opportunity to criticise snuff, as on this in this thread, and comments are almost entirely favourable the product must be good. I’ve got some schmalzer’s on order and really look forward to trying this style. The journey, if not the quest, continues.

P

I have received and tried Sternecker echt Fresko and Bernard Brasil Feinst. I see. What is not to like? Plum pudding for the nose. Decadent stuff. Glad I’ve got some of this.

X

Its a slippery slope, petersuki. You’ll have to try them all now.

P

Stefan tried to warn me, but I just wouldn’t listen. It’s my own fault. Also Rooster for the first time. First genuine scotch. Wow. Must have some of this around. The cares of the world, and we all know there are many, are well and truly banished this afternoon. I’m going to make some more tea have a good blow and continue this important research. All the best Xander

T

@petersuki ha ha ha I was up studyin’ ALLLLL NIGHT @cstokes4 thanks man I appreciate the link. I’m placing an order for a 25g bag this afternoon to try it out (the sudfrucht or however u spell it)

B

I have to admit I have never tried them but just ordered some from Mr snuff so will give them a try very soon

P

There’s a sort of oily after taste/scent that lingers long, even after blowing. Does anyone know what I’m trying to describe? I wouldn’t say this a ‘revolting’ but it’s not as nice as the first taste…the way to get rid of this effect seems to be to put some more up. If a water based snuff is put up, the oily taste of the schmaltzer returns when the the effect of the water based one fades. Not sure I could live with this after effect, though the taste at first is delicious. Might try rincing my nose, - but if it’s oil based? Once started you have to keep on with it.

M

@transistor : You MUST let me know what you think of the Sudfrucht when you try it! I know some people may not enjoy it, but I just want a few more opinions to see if I should order some sometime! Gimme your honest opinion when you try it though . @petersuki : Have you ever tried Zwiefacher? I’ve noticed a very similar effect with the Zwie… It leaves a strong oily after-scent / after-taste… Its honestly quite strong, to the point where, if I accidently sniff some to the back of my throat, it is really unnerving… But I LOVE the scent so much… Gah!

P

MikeMoose Yeah the flavours are outstanding. But the oil base gives it a half life of several hours. Fascinating stuff. Once you take it, it owns you. Love the Rooster. Blows out clean as a whistle. These two are the first I’ve ever had. I’m not used to the way the oil keeps the scent around a long time. ‘Strong oily after scent’ is right. A very different take on tobacco up the nose. Think I’ll just try some more…

M

Aha! It is true, I believe it was the first night I cracked open the tap-box of Zwiefacher, I ended up snuffing so much that it hit me a little hard, and in the gut . It’s got a strong nicotine kick, for me anyways. But yeah it is a great snuff… I’d buy it in a larger amount for sure. But yeah, once you start, you can’t stop .

P

‘Does anyone have a schmalazer they hate? Not don’t like but find revolting’? Love the flavour. Once up the nose it seems to dominate the day. This effect is not revolting but I will only use this stuff on specific schmaltzer occasions because the oil (which in my examples can be tasted), is so persistent in the nose that the whole day will be schmalzered. If you love this stuff I can see why.

J

I hate the way schmalzlers dry out my nose!

F

I’m really starting to think I shouldn’t try schmalzler…sounds kind of like liquor. Once you start, you can’t stop and it has bad after effects.

T

I doubt it’s any harder to quit than any other snuff…

B

You’d be doing yourself a disservice not to try them, Fisch!

P

FischTix ‘I’m really starting to think I shouldn’t try schmalzler’ Don’t let me put you off. It’s just my first take. As I said the flavours are really something. I have tried it again today. Not tasting it as well as yesterday. The N lift is not amazingly high buty I would say quite long lasting and ‘even’. Also I’m not noticing the oily effect as much as yesterday. Give it a go. You live once.

F

Famous last words, “I’ll try anything once” You guys talked me into it though a scmalzler WILL be on my next order. If I end up in rehab, I’m holding you guys personally responsible!

P

So long as you can get someone to smuggle some in for you you’ll be fine! Or you might consider going to live in Germany. Seriously though, more-ish, but not compulsive.

G

The only thing I don’t like about the scmalzlers I have tried is. They are like tater chips, once you get started you can’t stop.

F

@petersuki lol! Thanks for the advice. I find any tasty snuff to be quite more-ish, but for me more-ish quickly turns into compulsive!!

A

Sternecker echt Fresk isnt so wonderful dont know why too plain …but no i do not hate it, schmalazers are meant to be yummy

P

The schmalzers may be the only sort where I will use a spoon. I taste the ‘echt’ better off a spoon. Though there is a sneezing fit here

X

Mr. Snuff is soon stocking the ungefettet. Somone wrote a good description on how to use it. Now, need to find some lard…

P

Snuff where you have to watch your cholesterol! As an Englishman I’m dogmatically opposed to putting fats or oils up my hooter. But I think I’ll make an exception for a few of these heretics. Come, come, Alex, ghee must be nicer than lard!

J

Bacon fat sounds good right about now.

C

Doppelaroma

favorites are Doppelt Fermentiert, Regensburger Pris and Perlesreuter

A

Maybe I’ll stick a tub of Flora into my next batch of Cerise.

T

I like schmalzers the more I try them but I use them as an occasional treat. I started using them for the nicotine and started to appreciate their flavors more and more

M

Maybe an Irish Moss snuff. Isn’t flora a general term for plant life? (as in “no foreign flora or fauna”)

B

I think he was talking flora in the context of fermentation.

B

Where is the hate??? Just read this whole thread .Everybody don’t like something but nobody hates schmalazler .the following is from Bernard

The Schmalzler is a mix of Brasil tobacco and special tobacco made of the so-called mangotes. Mangotes are tobaccos weaved into thick ropes in Brasil. They come freshly from the field, get weaved and pressed with special sauces. In the end they are sewed into fresh bullskin. These packages weigh up to 80 kilos. Now they are imported into Germany, where they age in a long process. If neccessary, the skins are cut up, the ropes cut into pieces and mixed with the fermented Brasil tobacco.

The Schmalzler is factured double tracked. One half is chunky, the other one is coarse grit. Both halfes get double-fermented with different sauces seperately. The sauces are made of fruit and sugar beet sirup.

After the mix with the sauces, there comes a double natural fermentation in huge wooden barrels. This high-quality fermentation is only possible if the time is controled well, because the tobacco gets very warm almost hot here.

Barrels that keep 6000 kilos are the garantee for the optimal mix of the not finished Schmalzler.

After 6 weeks to 3 months, the tobaccos are dried and mixed with limescale to remove the dampness. The chunky mangotes gets mixed in. First they are dried by storage on boards, then the product gets grated in special machines. The grated brasil powder get´s passed trough a sieve and dried for a second time by special storage, then mixed with fat and aromatised in a secret way. This company secret is the garantee for the individual aroma of this very different snuff tobacco.

Even though there is a little decline in sales and there are less workers because of new machinery, the Schmalzler is still factured in the same old way.

Bernard is true to tradition - without lurid marketing-methods.

H

…why did reading that make my mouth water?

B

…why did reading that make my mouth water?

cause it would have been gross if it made your nose water.

J

flora is a brand of english margerine

M

bob, ah yes, thank’s for the clarification! I had an inkling I was missing something there.

The fermentation process makes me think of cigar leaf aged in tercio

J

N

@basement_shaman that is some serious marketing speech! got me drooling too!

J

I’m not a very big fan of the doppelaroma.  It’s not revolting to me or anything like that but I’m not a fan of it.

T

I don’t hate any but they do turn me into a sneezing snot monster. Strange as very fine snuff doesn’t effect me at all.

B

yeah i love them but the ones i have tried hurt my nose

J

There are some Bernard ones I’ve found that I don’t like - the more I try the more I seem to like the plainer ones. I’m with theratroom on the snot-monster effect, though. My handkerchief consumption goes up rapidly!

V

@transistor the 100g bag fits in the palm of your hand, its a lot smaller looking than you think.

B

Though oddly when I’am really sick they seem to really help clear my sinuses. If not sick they make my sinuses turn into the sixth level of hell.

S

Nope, I haven’t found one I don’t like and I’ll tried a bunch.
