Schmalzler what is it and where to get it in the U.S.

I have seen may posts talking about Schmalzler. What is it and does any body found it in the U. S.?

You can find some informations about Schmalzler here .

Jarhog, Marscigars.com carries it in the US.

I’ve been going through quite a bit of this Bernard Schmalzler snuffs. I have the Brasil DF, Fresco and Feinst. (Can’t really detect a difference between the last two except for the grain texture and the Brasil DF is the same but a little drier). I am really starting to love these snuffs. Because they are oily and very moist, it is possible to snuff them quite hard. I never thought I’d like a “sweet” snuff so much, but these are just plain delicious. Anyone else like Schmalzer snuff? It took me a few days to get used to the feeling in the nose, which was uncomfortable at first. But now I love the stuff and consider it a necessary part of my collection.

I just recieved some of the Brasil DF. It’s the first schmalzler I’ve tried. It does take a little getting used to, but I like it more and more each time I sniff it. To me it tastes sort of like a very “malty” dark beer. Yum. Cheers, Java

I know what you mean. It sure is tasty. The Fresco and Feinst taste almost the same- just moister. I actually like the Brasil DF the best. But the others come in a nice aluminum package with 20 grams each and are great for my snuff box.

A toque Schmalzler would be great Roderick. That would certainly be a challenge.

Great minds, eh?

Hi Roderick! Maybe you can get the Schmalzler Recipes of Bernard , now they’re closing down! If not, I still hope that Pöschl is taking over a few Brands like they did with the Perlesreuther Schmalzler. Greets Scott

Wouldn’t air drying in a flat container, like a shallow pan, work out??

As far as I know, jerky is low heat and salt cured. It is not processed with silica!

Roderick, it’s not a schmalzer, but what about something like Bernard’s Virginia that gets so many rave reviews?

Air drying works perfect. Take only enough to fill a snuff box and spread open on a dinnerplate. Leave overnight and…Bob’s your uncle. Rest of the snuff remains in the F&T tin until next time.

Since when is Bernard’s going out of business?

Sorry for that imprecise information. They are just changing the business-form from stock corporation to smaller business , a privite limited corporation. They are canceling a few recipes and just make only a few larger boxes(100g) and the most are in this ugly plastic boxes. In the past they had about 10 Recipes in large boxes and just now they are only produceing 2 or 3 in big boxes. Greets Scott

Hmm… that’s interesting. I’m assuming that they will still sell the 10g tins? Their website does not mention anything.

I want that one with the monk picture, just for the container.

That Schnupftabak Klostermischung I nice when you want a non menthol schmaltzer. The monk on the package does have a devilish smile.

That monk is freaky.
