I bought 250g of the new ‘Top Mill’ snuff from Black Swan about 6 or 7 weeks ago. It is fantastic, but I wouldn’t call it a JHW Top Mill substitute. It is more or less like the High Mill or the Scotch in base and grind, but without the perfumed scent. More earthy and reserved with a hint of bergamot and something else. Lovely and fluffy like all good SG snuffs when they’re fresh. Utterly delicious. I would reccomend it.

For those who have had both:- In a straight up testing, with this one and VB, what differences would one detect? I’ve taken a lot of VB but never the SG one.
I’ve had both but not at the same time. I received the SG very shortly after I finished the Viking Blonde though, and thought they were pretty much identical.

@crullers @Thunderbird I have got both SG SP HM and the VB on the go right now, and I have to disagree, the SG is far superior. Although this is just an opinion. The grind is similar but there is more moisture to the SP that lends it a fluffy quality that I personally love, and the scent which is sweet and slightly minty, is way more attractive than the grassy, hay like scent of the VB. Both are easy to take of course but I’d rather a pinch of the SG

Necroposting… I just got my first two tins of No.1 High Mill a few days ago and I’m sadly underwhelmed. It has no scent whatever for me. I get no bergamot, no virginia tobacco scent, nothing. It’s fresh, I heard the hiss as I popped the tin, but still has the scent of attic dust. I like the grind and moistue level though, so there’s that. Anyone else have the same experience? I get much more bergamot from KBO, and it’s supposed to be a suble scent there.

I really like this snuff a lot. I only get a natural tobacco scent, with a slight amount of something else which I can’t really define. But, that said, I love the fluffiness, moisture, and overall taste of it.
Mine has plenty of scent to it… it’s ok, but it’s not for me. It reminds me of Viking Blonde with a flavor that reminds me of orange/pineapple juice concentrate. Speaking of Viking Blonde, I recently opened my 2nd tin, and was disappointed; it’s very much unlike my first tin of Viking Blonde. It smells exactly like SG SP No.1 High Mill. I’m hoping it’s just more fresh than the first one, or that my nose is playing tricks on me.
