Patrick collins triple tech snuf box

@bakdoor It came in the mail last night! Wow! That is an air tight lid!! It seems very travel friendly, but I’ll be leaving mine at home as It would get destroyed in the vineyard. I’ve got a SP in there right now. It was worth the wait.

Glad it made it! @all: Arrangements can be made if you would like to use paypal for anything on SnuffGear.com. (still working on the MC thing) Tom

question … these are my “loose” findings … using 5g smash boxes i measured the following and found them to hold “roughly” #grams of snuff: PC Triple Tech 4+ grams (felt like this might not hold as much as the normal PC snuff boxes, surprised) Regular PC Snuff Boxes (standard) 4 grams 3" flat Heartwood boxes 3.5 to 4 grams not exact, mind you … anyone else have an idea? don’t know why i care … speaks more the “how much do you use daily” thread … does Patrick still visit the site? I don’t see amounts held on snuffgear … granted, I get that these are hand crafted and exact measurements vary … was just trying to get general estimate … i can gauge my snuffing based on emptying out one of these in a day.

I have a Triple Tech in padauk, and a Heartwood in some dark wood – walnut, I guess, or a very dark cherry. I carry both with me every day. They’re both sturdy and extremely well-crafted. The Triple Tech has a gorgeous inlaid geometric pattern on the lid. My great uncle was a master woodcarver specializing in the Appalachian style of inlaid woodwork, and I don’t think even he could match the quality of the work.

@Pipensnusnsnuff … ever tried to calculate the amount of snuff the Triple Tech holds? I have 4 of them and i agree, they are wonderful … been using the tap out method lately, no muss, no fuss … but my “test” had me pouring in a full 5g smash box full of snuff into each of the types i listed to see if they would hold all 5 grams… my spillage showed the amounts to be around 4g of snuff. i was more curious than any other reason.

Patrick is a master craftsman, the detail in the inlay is fantastic.

@snuffbrant: No, I’ve never measured the capacity of the Triple Tech. I just fill it when I start running low. @SnuffHead: What amazes me about Patrick’s inlay work are two things: (1) Through some magical combination of color and geometry, the design presents the optical illusion of being 3-D. I’ve seen work that good before, but it’s extremely rare. (2) I’m extremely curious to know what sort of lacquer or varnish Patrick uses. The wood almost glitters, it’s so shiny.

not to mention the fit of the top … and the soft, rounded corners … i fiddle with mine all day - the blonde cherry boxes are beautiful. i will remark, while i thought the flat 3" heartwoods would become a fave due to tactile reasons and unique flat fit in the pocket … they all have railings on their tops that collect the snuff and spill out the back … the finish on them are glossy versus the natural shine of PC’s boxes. without question, Patrick’s boxes are gorgeous, functional, and will always hold my most favorite snuffs. i am now tempted to buy the double compartment one, as well as round out the collection. will be around for years …

I want a double compartment PC box but I LOVE the Tripletechs and I want one that has TWO compartments! Is there such thing?

no double compartment triple techs … yet … be pretty cool though.

I’ve got 2 original PC boxes, 1 double, and 2 tripletech’s, all are beautiful and used every day. Patrick is a genius, I wish I had 10% of his craftsmanship. Stefan

i did mention that i am seeking medical help for my affliction, yes? 4 heartwoods, 1 ebay score(merely good for spoon holding) … the rest, pure PC … just need the double compartment to round out my collection! it’s a sickness, i know.

That’s awesome @snuffbrant ! I love the Tripletechs- Mine is Zebra wood I love the natural look of that wood- my Warwick Bass guitar’s body is made of the same wood and they’re both beautiful!

@snuffbrant thats a great collection of Tripletechs you got there, I’m rather jealous I have a paduak, oak, and teak Tripletech and soon I plan on getting a cherry, walnut, and mahogany. Best wooden boxes there is those Tripletechs, well thats my opinion anyway

agree … and thanks @transistor and @n9inchnails … they are the best … i think i mentioned it before but the heartwoods have two grooves in the tops that collects snuff and drops it when opened. i have learned to open them on a napkin or whatever to collect the crumbs … but PC’s boxes, no grooves, always tight … no muss/no fuss. i have been using the tap box function of the TT exclusively … so easy, so quick. just nice to have option of tap, pinch or spoon.

OHHH I hate those grooves… Its easy to stop that though- all I do is flick my finger against it- just give it a tap on the lid and it’ll knock all that snuff down into the box and then its safe to open. It sucked for awhile until I figured that out. Give it a try.

Those are some very nice boxes Brant. Does anyone know if Tom (bakdoor) still sells snuff boxes?

I think he does… http://snuffgear.com/index.php?main\_page=index&cPath=3\_52

I got my Teak Tripletech from the contest in the mail the other day and it’s awesome! @ddavelarsen 's spoon he made me fits PERFECTLY! I love my triple tech and it’s actually almost airtight! I’ve had some Grand Cairo in it for 4 days now and it’s still fresh!

Rob, you’re the best advertisement in the world! Thanks for your kind words man. I’m out of material to make any more of those, so don’t lose it! I carry three snuff boxes with me every day, that contain my regular snuffs. Sometimes I’ll add a tin of something special if I’m feeling the need. My tripletech box has always held McC Clove and I use it the least these days. I made a brass snuff spoon to fit the spoon holder in it, since I didn’t think much of the bone spoon that came with the box. My Mr Snuff box holds SG Vanilla, which I use the most of lately, while I switch the other box between my Padauk heartwood box that holds a 50/50 mixture of Toque bourbon and vanilla, or my @ELMOS metal box that holds SG Honey. Mostly I snuff the honey, but my Toque mix is a righteous regular too. I’d carry all four boxes, but I just don’t switch off that much on a normal day. The three keep me happy. The tripletech box is a wonderful thing. I love mine and will carry it for the rest of my life.
