Patrick collins triple tech snuf box

C

Hello. I was wondering these neat little boxes are any good. Does it come with a spoon? Has anyone in the uk ordered one from snuffgear.com,if so how fast was the delivery? Are they sturdy and does the snuff scent linger in the box? Im asking that cause id wantto use more than just one snuff.I guess it would just need a little airing out next to a window or something if htat was the case. Any recomendations on what woods are the best? Thank you and best regards. C.Morgan

T

Best wooden snuff box possible IMHO. I have a zebra wood one and its PERFECT. TIGHT lid, Bone spoon, bad ass. Get one. You won’t regret it if you’re a snuffer!

S

I’ve got one, it’s a very good box but you will find the spoon that comes with it a little disappointing. A friend, a jeweller made me a silver spoon that fits. If you can, then get a teak one Quote from WordWeb:- “Hard strong durable yellowish-brown wood of teak trees; resistant to insects and to warping; used for furniture and in shipbuilding”

T

Yeah the bone spoon WORKS. Its nothing too special. Luckily the one that @ddavelarsen made me fits PERFECTLY! Where you at dave?

C

Sounds cool. What are the dimensions of the box?

S

I haven’t got a rule beside me at present, but because of the spoon compartment they don’t hold the same amount of snuff as Patrick’s other boxes. But unless your a real heavy snuffer, then you’l get a days supply in there.

B

I have a zebra wood triple tech and I love it. The workmanship is top notch and it looks great. Doesn’t seem to be affected by the weather as much as the cherry wood box I have by another maker. The moister snuffs tend to plug up the small hole used for pouring out onto your hand sometimes but I’m a pincher for the most part so it doesn’t bother me.

D

@transistor Hey Rob, I’m still sucking breath, just haven’t been in the forum much because its Spring! Still snuffin though, and waiting somewhat patiently for that 250g of SG Vanilla… I’m glad your spoon is working for you, that made my day. Thanks for the kind words man. @cmorgan87, the box is 2.5" X 1.75" in outside dimension, the snuff compartment is about 1.5" X 1". Sorry I don’t have a metric rule nearby, in case that’s what makes sense to you.

S

i have 4 of the triple techs and a few of the regular PC boxes … and i echo Bodger’s sentiments. on the spoons … while the bone is fine, they are rather flimsy, i have and really like the simple silver spoons offered by snuffgear … took some tin snips to them, the flat end, and they fit just fine being cut down, cleaning up the rough cut with some steel wool. love all my PC boxes, with a system of rotating a “toast” box, FT HDT, No 22 and SG Irish D Light, a sweet box rotation of Toast and Marmalade/Whisky & Honey/Honey Bee, and an SP box, rotating Best SP/Tom Buck. Spanish Gem and GH Irish D get their own unshared box … this habit does not serve my self diagnosed OCD. *grin* ~help~ … where’s the 12 step program for this!!! then, after i post such nonsense … i think, who really wants to read this? … oof… but, then, post anyway.

N

I’m with you @snuffbrant I dedicate my TripleTechs. I have one for toasts, one for scotches and one for W&H. I also have 2 Heartwood boxes, one for O&G and one for CoC and I have a flip top box for SPs

S

@n9inchnails … thanks for backing me on this perceived sickness i have about order … also, there are some Heartwood Creations retailers near me … which box type, on their website, functions best for snuff, I am guessing they all close tightly? I will to check them out. EDIT: I found some online spots as well for the Heartwoods. Nice. 2ND EDIT: nevermind … a little TAD screwed me again … went with the 3" flat boxes. NOW, i am set … yeah … right.

N

Is Patrick selling these strictly through Nic rush or is he still selling some himself? I only ask because I see that Nic rush is not using Mastercard anymore.

S

@nightcap … no matter the search criteria, I cannot find anywhere else to purchase PC boxes other than snuffgear (nicotine rush) on the web … although, i think i recall a post about the snuff boxes here on snuffhouse … where it seemed like he posted information … will search. EDIT : i believe he posts here as onefortheroad

S

Yes Patrick is onefortheroad and hes boxes are available from snuffstore.co.uk

N

They dont have the triple tech one unfortunately and I hate ordering stuff from outside the EU, it always takes ages.

N

@bakdoor After talking with Tom @ Nic Rush, we worked it out. I should have my Zebra triple tech soon enough. Great communication and speedy service. Thanks again Tom!

T

I have the Zebrawood one and I LOVE it. Beautiful, snuff-proof, compact, functional, and the lids slide perfectly every time. Got one for my fiance too

N

I got the one in teak. Cant wait to have it in my hands…

S

I have one of the Padauk Triple Tech Boxes, and I have never seen a box so ingenious. The box is of great craftsmanship. The spoon is hearty, and holds up well, and the dispenser hole gives a good amount of snuff per tap. All in all, an amazing box, and something every snuffer should have. I have an original Patrick Collins box, and I can say that the quality of the products have been consistent through the ‘generations’, as it were. Highly recommended. ~Ken

B

I just picked up two more PC boxes. I now have a teak and an oak triple tech box. They both look great, the fit on the oak box is flawless. I have one small gripe about the teak box; the lid doesn’t match the rest of the box in color, but some natural differences are to be expected with handmade wooden products, I guess. I love the spoons but worry about breaking them so I have replaced all of them with metal spoons and keep the bone spoons at home.

N

@bakdoor It came in the mail last night! Wow! That is an air tight lid!! It seems very travel friendly, but I’ll be leaving mine at home as It would get destroyed in the vineyard. I’ve got a SP in there right now. It was worth the wait.

B

Glad it made it! @all: Arrangements can be made if you would like to use paypal for anything on SnuffGear.com. (still working on the MC thing) Tom

S

question … these are my “loose” findings … using 5g smash boxes i measured the following and found them to hold “roughly” #grams of snuff: PC Triple Tech 4+ grams (felt like this might not hold as much as the normal PC snuff boxes, surprised) Regular PC Snuff Boxes (standard) 4 grams 3" flat Heartwood boxes 3.5 to 4 grams not exact, mind you … anyone else have an idea? don’t know why i care … speaks more the “how much do you use daily” thread … does Patrick still visit the site? I don’t see amounts held on snuffgear … granted, I get that these are hand crafted and exact measurements vary … was just trying to get general estimate … i can gauge my snuffing based on emptying out one of these in a day.

P

I have a Triple Tech in padauk, and a Heartwood in some dark wood – walnut, I guess, or a very dark cherry. I carry both with me every day. They’re both sturdy and extremely well-crafted. The Triple Tech has a gorgeous inlaid geometric pattern on the lid. My great uncle was a master woodcarver specializing in the Appalachian style of inlaid woodwork, and I don’t think even he could match the quality of the work.

S

@Pipensnusnsnuff … ever tried to calculate the amount of snuff the Triple Tech holds? I have 4 of them and i agree, they are wonderful … been using the tap out method lately, no muss, no fuss … but my “test” had me pouring in a full 5g smash box full of snuff into each of the types i listed to see if they would hold all 5 grams… my spillage showed the amounts to be around 4g of snuff. i was more curious than any other reason.

S

Patrick is a master craftsman, the detail in the inlay is fantastic.

P

@snuffbrant: No, I’ve never measured the capacity of the Triple Tech. I just fill it when I start running low. @SnuffHead: What amazes me about Patrick’s inlay work are two things: (1) Through some magical combination of color and geometry, the design presents the optical illusion of being 3-D. I’ve seen work that good before, but it’s extremely rare. (2) I’m extremely curious to know what sort of lacquer or varnish Patrick uses. The wood almost glitters, it’s so shiny.

S

not to mention the fit of the top … and the soft, rounded corners … i fiddle with mine all day - the blonde cherry boxes are beautiful. i will remark, while i thought the flat 3" heartwoods would become a fave due to tactile reasons and unique flat fit in the pocket … they all have railings on their tops that collect the snuff and spill out the back … the finish on them are glossy versus the natural shine of PC’s boxes. without question, Patrick’s boxes are gorgeous, functional, and will always hold my most favorite snuffs. i am now tempted to buy the double compartment one, as well as round out the collection. will be around for years …

T

I want a double compartment PC box but I LOVE the Tripletechs and I want one that has TWO compartments! Is there such thing?

S

no double compartment triple techs … yet … be pretty cool though.

W

I’ve got 2 original PC boxes, 1 double, and 2 tripletech’s, all are beautiful and used every day. Patrick is a genius, I wish I had 10% of his craftsmanship. Stefan

S

i did mention that i am seeking medical help for my affliction, yes? 4 heartwoods, 1 ebay score(merely good for spoon holding) … the rest, pure PC … just need the double compartment to round out my collection! it’s a sickness, i know.

T

That’s awesome @snuffbrant ! I love the Tripletechs- Mine is Zebra wood I love the natural look of that wood- my Warwick Bass guitar’s body is made of the same wood and they’re both beautiful!

N

@snuffbrant thats a great collection of Tripletechs you got there, I’m rather jealous I have a paduak, oak, and teak Tripletech and soon I plan on getting a cherry, walnut, and mahogany. Best wooden boxes there is those Tripletechs, well thats my opinion anyway

S

agree … and thanks @transistor and @n9inchnails … they are the best … i think i mentioned it before but the heartwoods have two grooves in the tops that collects snuff and drops it when opened. i have learned to open them on a napkin or whatever to collect the crumbs … but PC’s boxes, no grooves, always tight … no muss/no fuss. i have been using the tap box function of the TT exclusively … so easy, so quick. just nice to have option of tap, pinch or spoon.

T

OHHH I hate those grooves… Its easy to stop that though- all I do is flick my finger against it- just give it a tap on the lid and it’ll knock all that snuff down into the box and then its safe to open. It sucked for awhile until I figured that out. Give it a try.

O

Those are some very nice boxes Brant. Does anyone know if Tom (bakdoor) still sells snuff boxes?

M

I think he does… http://snuffgear.com/index.php?main\\_page=index&cPath=3\\_52

T

I got my Teak Tripletech from the contest in the mail the other day and it’s awesome! @ddavelarsen 's spoon he made me fits PERFECTLY! I love my triple tech and it’s actually almost airtight! I’ve had some Grand Cairo in it for 4 days now and it’s still fresh!

D

Rob, you’re the best advertisement in the world! Thanks for your kind words man. I’m out of material to make any more of those, so don’t lose it! I carry three snuff boxes with me every day, that contain my regular snuffs. Sometimes I’ll add a tin of something special if I’m feeling the need. My tripletech box has always held McC Clove and I use it the least these days. I made a brass snuff spoon to fit the spoon holder in it, since I didn’t think much of the bone spoon that came with the box. My Mr Snuff box holds SG Vanilla, which I use the most of lately, while I switch the other box between my Padauk heartwood box that holds a 50/50 mixture of Toque bourbon and vanilla, or my @ELMOS metal box that holds SG Honey. Mostly I snuff the honey, but my Toque mix is a righteous regular too. I’d carry all four boxes, but I just don’t switch off that much on a normal day. The three keep me happy. The tripletech box is a wonderful thing. I love mine and will carry it for the rest of my life.

U

Just thought I’d chime in about the Heartwood Creations boxes. They are awesome accept for the aforementioned grooves underneath the lid. I purchased one in Teak that did not have the groves and it is the Perfect snuff box. I can find not rhyme or reason for some with and some without as I also have two others in Padauk and Maple that had grooves. I disliked the spillage when I opened the grooved ones. It seems that others do too so I’ll share the fix I came up with. It’s a simple but effective solution to the problem. After taking the lid off and placing it with the grooves up on a table I took a small beeswax cake (I suspect a candle would work fine too) and rubbed it vigorously across the grooves until the shavings filled them in. I mashed them with my finger and worked it into the grooves followed by another vigorous rubbing with a cloth rag to heat the wax enough so that melded back together in the groove. I then took a toothpick and scraped the surface to make sure any excess was removes and that the grooves were flush with the box, then rag polished again. Tada!!! not more grooves!!! I applied a bit more wax to the sides of the lid to make it slide and seal even better. Now those boxes are perfect too!!! Have fun!!

D

You could fill them with super glue and baking soda too- the baking soda causes the super glue to cure instantly.
