I drive a Red 2004 Dodge Neon…very spartan with nothing fancy…but I pretty much lived in it last year due to the nature of my work, and great gas mileage too! I REALLY miss my 1997 Ford Explorer…had its passenger side door caved in from an accident and both headlights were held in place with tape…it had 170k miles on it when I sold it two years ago, thinking that it didn’t have much more life in it… I kick myself every time I visit my home town and see its current owner cruising around in it…
My Neon has been trouble. Less than 70k, and it needs a head gasket. I’ve never abused the car, nor let it overheat. Blah.
Mine, for awhile, would not start for no reason, but then fire up when jumped. It was completely random. I couldn’t have that, of course, since getting stranded in Nebraska/Wyoming in the dead of winter in the middle of nowhere wasn’t an option, and I had to travel A LOT, but a new starter seemed to fix all the problems. Of course, I’m laid off now so I do about zero traveling. I wonder, Carol, if the fact that yours is a Plymouth and mine is a Dodge has anything to do with it? I’ve put 20k miles on mine over two years and its, except for my aforementioned issue, done just fine? Maybe its just a fluke?
Strange thing, my Neon doesn’t even get warm when you start it. If anything, it’s slightly cold blooded. The fluid loss was so light, I thought it was a pinhole leak in the radiator until I saw fluid dripping from the tailpipe. Unfortunately, my mechanic verified my fears. We are relying on my bf’s ancient Toyota and our trail bikes to get around until we can get the Neon fixed.
I read that article the other day. My car should have the newer gasket though. Oh well, I guess my car had different ideas.
I commute 110 miles round-trip daily in my trusty 2001 Honda Civic EX Coupe with 278K-plus miles on it. At 38-40 highway mpg and in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition, I don’t even think of getting rid of it. Our other car is a 2007 Honda CR-V EX-L, which my wife drives daily to work and we use for travel.

I wish I had a picture of my old schoolbus. I miss that thing. I don’t miss feeding it though.

My daily driver is a 2001 Honda Civic EX Couple . I commute 100 miles round-trip each day, all interstate (I-95) and certainly appreciate the 40 mpg highway mileage it gets. It has just over 285,000 miles on it and runs like new. All I do with regard to maintenance is change the oil and filter quarterly, change the spark-plugs every 100,00 miles, and replace the front brake pads about every 3 years. I changed the rear brake shoes for the first time at 265,000, just because I was getting concerned about them…they still had about 3/32" of surface on them. Our other car is a 2007 Honda CR-V…which my wife drives daily. And I have her drive me around on the weekend because I’m just sick of driving by then.

let’s see some pics. sounds like it would be fun to beat on. in the '80’s I had a 1975 ford f-150 with a 351 in it. bought it with a friend for $75 just to have fun with. the days of no seat belt or insurance laws were nice that way, all you needed was a license plate and you were legal. we used to take it off-road and see how high we could jump it. a couple times we couldn’t believe the truck was still in one piece. it’s amazing no one got hurt. one day we got it stuck on it’s belly out on some trails. came back to tow it out the next day and someone had stolen all the wheels, which would have been easy since none were touching the ground. took a couple days before we found some replacement wheels for cheap and by then anything glass or plastic was smashed so we pulled off the plates and abandoned it there. some developer must have junked it without a title (I still have the title) since there’s a big townhouse complex there these days.
I had a 63 impala my last year of high school that that was totally beat up. That thing was a tank! Me and my friends would take it to field parties, get drunk and jump up and down on it, couldn’t hurt it. I ran over a tree once and it barely dented the licence plate frame. The headliner was falling down the seats were torn to shreds and the floor of the backseat was completely filled with beer bottles. The thing was also completely rusted out. We called it the “massive” and my friends to this day talk and reminisce about that car, and that was 1980. The only good thing was a great stereo! I also abandoned it on the side of the road when it broke down. i took the stereo and the tag and left it. I paid $250.00 for it from the original owner.
I drive boring cars. i have a 2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx and a 2009 Scion xB. Well, the Scion’s not so boring. Just very reliable.

Nice ride Nosechaw954. As for myself, living in Arizona, and being unemployed, I either borrow cars or get rides, or (more often) walk or ride a bike. Walking or biking is great for snuffing, too, since you get all that nice fresh air to aerate your snuffs aroma.
bigblue1, don’t tell anyone! That thing has more power than a midsized hatchback has any business having. I looked for an SS, but no luck there. At the time I really needed a car, and there was only ONE Maxx SS for sale that I could find and would consider, in Denver. But yeah, for my work, which involves 6-8 hour drives weekly, it’s a lot of fun. And with winter coming up, the heated suede seats are a godsend here in WI.
