Bought this from the dealership I work at. $900.00, the nice thing is that they are payroll deducting it at $50.00 a week. 87 Dodge ram 100 4x4. 318 ci, Eldebrock intake, Eldebrock Carb, No computors. Problem is that it only gets 12 MPG, but it is fun to drive. Now to find some fenders and bed sides edm

A

Baddies in American films always drive those.

T

You got a good deal. Nice truck

M

Another weird thing is that you get used to cup holders in newer vehicles, this doesn’t have any, lol.

B

Nice truck, Mustangii! I get 10-12 mpg in my old Suburban so I feel your pain, lol! Remember the show “Simon & Simon” with the PowerWagon? Tough trucks, they were!

M

Yeah but Simon and Simon’s had a 440 in it. that would be nice, lol. A friend of mine has a Trail duster mud truck with a 440 in it, man what a fun ride, lol.

B

My first “car” was a 77 Jeep CJ-5 with a 360- 3 speed…very fun and quick until the “tar snakes” sent me weaving at high speeds, haha! Well, just run your truck with open exhaust and make believe

M

It has a 12" glass pack on it now, 3" single exhaust. It’s plenty loud as it is. Also you had to watch the spring shackles on those olds CJs. If one broke at high speed the Jeep would flip. Thats why the newer wranglers have coil spring suspension now.

X

Cool ride! With the manifold and carb, I’d bet the cam has been done too. Are there headers on it?

M

No headers, mopar style rams horn center exit manifolds, no room for duals around the transfer case. But will have a single to dual flowmaster in the near future.

B

My front universal went out as I was driving and nearly catapulted me over…just shook the pi$$ out of me and actually pulled my seatbelt out of the floor. But I still prefer the older vehicles, much safer if they are maintained.I feel sorry for the SmartCar that meets up with that Dodge

M

Now if I could just find a 340, lol edm

T

Nice little project truck! Whats the mileage like?

M

12mpg and it’s showing 16645 on the odometer, of cource it could be 116645 or 216645, lol

P

“Nothing beats cubic inches” !!!

W

12 mpg? Bloody hell thats nowt! In the UK it would cost about £8000 a week to run lol. Stefan

M

yeap it takes about $100.00 to fill it. 30 gal tank, so I never let it get below 1/2 tank. edm

W

30 gallon is I think about 180 litres? At the minute around here petrol is about £1.35 a litre, do the maths its bloody astronomical. You couldn’t run that here unless you’re loaded. Stefan

X

My RV is like that. 27’ 460 cu in gasoline, 2x20 gallon tanks. $160 from empty at today’s prices. It stays in storage. I picked it up to convert to a TV production truck, but that project got put on hold when the economy here dived.

M

153.09 pounds sterling to fill the tank. sorry don’t have the pound emblem on my keyboard lol. 3.78 litres per gal. so 113.4 litres per tank.

M

Gas is $3.45 gal in Warrensburg right now. $103.50 to fill it here. edm

W

Bloody hell that’s half a weeks wage round here! Stefan

W

I am in a run down ex pit village though, not in a very affluent area, but if you are on around £250 a week after tax you are doing ok. Stefan

M

I’m an Auto tech at a Chrysler Dealership, in a small farm Community, Marshall MO. I live in Warrensburg MO. Make $20.00 an hour and average 25 to 35 hours a week. The distance between Marshall and Warrensburg is 50 miles, 100 miles round trip. My boss picks me up at his Mother in law’s house which is 9 miles from my house. the truck sits at her house most of the week during the day, lol Oh and I can get parts for it thru the shop parts department for 10% over cost.

S

Its only a matter of time before shotgun shells become cheaper than petrol here in Texas. Thats never a good combination.

M

Always loved the Falcon GT from mad max. Kind of a combo of the Torino and Mustang all wrapped up into one. Along with 351 cleveland power. Production of the 351 cleveland end in1972 in the US when the 400 modified, came on the scene. Ford packed up all the equipment for cleveland production and shipped it to Australia. Production of the 351 and 302 clevland went from 1972 till 1982 there. The aussi cleveland head is a combo of the 2 barrel and 4 barrel heads. 2 barrel ports combined with the 4 barrel closed chamber. Can build an engine with 600 hp with the aussi heads, with good low end torque. Also they will fit on 351w blocks because the bolt pattern is the same, just have to change the coolant flow. edm

W

@Spyro if petrol is only $3.45 a gallon it is bloody cheap IMO. Here it is £1.35 a LITRE a gallon is 4.5 litres so it makes it approx £6 a gallon or if you like $9 a gallon. Try motoring over here then count your blessings lol. Stefan

M

An English gal is 4.5 L an US gallon is 3.78L in other words an English gallon is 1.2 US gallons

W

Ah right didn’t realise that. Still makes it about $7.50ish a US gallon. Stefan

P

In SA petrol; is R10.00 a litre. With a 55litre tank, it takes R550.00 to fill it up. I can do 550km on a full tank = R1.00 per kilometer.

X

Auto or stick? I’m guessing with the weight and 4WD, that’s got a beefy trans.

M

auto, 727 torqueflight.

A late follow-up, I just found the pics of mine. A 1976 Series 75 executive sedan from Cadillac. 500cu in motor, weighs in just over 6,000 lbs (3 tons). Around 200 made that year, not likely many left. 6mpg city 10-12 highway. Needless to say it doesn’t get driven much. This was the last year of the big-body sedans

S

I love the old muscle cars from the 60s and 70s. Why in the world can’t they make a tough looking body style like they used to? Most of the common sports cars today look like they came from a Fisher Price toy set.

W

Lmao Spyro! That is so true. I love the old 50’s American cars, I bet if one is in good nick now it’d fetch a fortune. Stefan

A

My first car was a Skoda. How I hated that thing. Or maybe I loved it, I forget.

J

Hehehe, Skodas. I’m American but one of my coworkers is from Romania and he’s told me all about Skodas, Dacias, Trabants, etc. Told me he used to have a little diesel Renault that blew head gaskets so frequently, he became proficient at swapping them out on the side of the road within 20 minutes…

A

Yeah, that type of thing. I had a Renault like that, it died at a set of lights - I just got out, walked away and never saw it again. Disposable cars have their uses. The Trabant, of course, is famous for being made out of cotton waste bonded with apoxy. In the wet, if it was also warm, you could mould your hand print on the body because of the poor quality of the mix. At least Skodas and Ladas had body shells like Russian tanks. The all time crappiest Eastern bloc car had to be the Zastavia Carribbean. 0 to 30 in 15 minutes and with all the class of something a Soviet pig farmer would drive.

P

I believe the Zastavia Carribbean came without a speedometer. It had a calender stuck to the windscreen on which you could mark your daily progress.

P

The Skoda has developed into quite a respectable car today. They are very active in rallies and also sponsored the Tour de France this year.

X

One that I get a kick out of is the Peel from the 1960s. Basically a golf cart with a 50cc engine.

W

@Xapken I saw an exhibition of those on the Isle of Man last year when I went. The only car ever to come from there. I think only a couple of hundred were made, they fetch a fortune now, if you can get hold of one. Enough room for one bag of shopping in the boot, no reverse gear, you had to get out and literally pull it round. I’d love one. Anybody care to lend me a few grand? Stefan

M

Hey Stefan you could buy a Smart car, and it has reverse. edm

A

Skodas always were good in races, equipped as they were with other manufacturers engines, braking and electronics!

W

@mustangii I’d love to have a car of any sort, but unfourtuneatly my medication makes it impossible for me to drive, I’m uninsurable apparently even though I can drive (never passed my practical test but can drive better than a lot of folks), I’m not allowed to legally. Stefan

A

I never drive nowadays because my back is shot and I’m too imobile, and I take a lot of MST - but I have to say I don’t miss it for a second and as my wife likes driving and is relatively safe (apart from the quirk of at junctions waiting for a car that is a dot on the horizon to approach and then leap out in front of it) I’m a happy bunny.

S

I hear ya Snuffster. After driving a car around the city as part of my job for twenty years, it now feels like an annoying necessity. Unfortunately, the mass transportation system is very primitive where I live. At least compared to a lot of other systems I’ve seen in Germany and Japan. (Sorry Dublin, but no buses in the Temple Bar district? Lame.) My PTSD keeps me home anyway and since developing annorexia nervosa I often don’t have the energy to go anywhere. If I had a fun old muscle car and unlimited fuel supplies, then I’d enjoy going for a spin. Since it was 110 degrees here yesterday and expected to be just as bad today, I’m not leaving my house. I’ve already had to repair a broken water line due to the prolonged drought here causing the ground to shift. Eh, I’m rambling now. I’ll drink my coffee and be quiet.

X

@Spyro Actually the coffee part sounds pretty good right about now. Hope you feel better. *wanders off looking for java*

J

I liked the film ‘Black Cat, White Cat’ where (completely unrelated to the plot) a pig is slowly munching its way through an abandoned Trabant…the cotton waste/phenol resin body was not only edible but downright palatable to goats and pigs especially.
