I figured since this is such an international group, it might be interesting to see what people in other countries drive. Also, this is a mostly male forum… Also, I just fixed up my jeep and i have no where to “show it off” since I usually drive my scooter! This is a 2007 Jeep wrangler. All the chrome bits you see are aftermarket. I’ve added a few things since this pic, but you get the idea.

X

On land I drive a bicycle. It has outstanding gas mileage. On sea, I drive whatver they hire me to (a pic of one in the J&H Wilson’s post a couple days ago)

S

1990 Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6. Fast, light, nimble, nice condition and no power steering. Perfect.

M

I was hoping to see some pics. Don’t see too many peugeots over here.

J

it’s not the exact model but pretty similar: I burn more rubber than most people i know … the hardcore way.

X

I bet you get good gas mileage out of that too, Jack!

P

I drive a 1998 Ford Mondeo LX and a 2005 Ford Bantam 1.6 XLT pickup. The Bantam was designed and is built in SA and I doubt whether any of the members has seen it yet. It’s on the same principle as Ford Ranchero and Chevy El Camino where a car has been converted into a pickup. Ford SA converted a Ford Ikon into a ½ton pickup. It’s a luxury vehicle with aircon, power steering, CD player etc and I love driving it. The loadbody is cover with a glassfiber lid which opens up like the bootlid of a car. And then, of course, I have my FELT Virtue Two mountain bike which is my pride and joy. Tomorrow I’m going to ride it in the world’s biggest mountain bike event, The Cape Argus Pick & Pay Mountain Bike Challenge. The riders are LIMITED to 4500 !!! There will be lots of overseas riders and this will be my third time round. Will tell you tomorrow how it went.

J

Good luck Pieter! @Xander: you can be sure of that , although this whole friction thing is bogging me down quit a bit :-D. That being said i have no permit .It’s $350 to get driving school done over here and i just don’t have that amount of cash laying around.

O

My speed demon is a 2004 Suzuki Alto, 1.1 Litre

B

Hey me and jack have similar rides. The best part is you can fuel them babies with almost any type of organic material meats, breads, potatoes, and even vegetables!

B

Had a child recently so had to trade in my little 2 seater convertible for a 2009 Scion Xb.

B

M

Ive got a 96 Honda civic. Paid 1500 for it 6 years ago. Best car purchase Ive ever made. If I had to guess its got about 200k miles, not sure cause the odometer died at 176k! I’m hoping it lasts until I graduate college next year.

S

Miamimark, I will post some pictures tomorrow of my Peugeot 205 GTI. I don’t know if any were exported to the US. I certainly didn’t spot any when I was in New England in 1995. I learn’t to drive in one in 1992 and have driven them off and on since. I love them!

T

miamimark, will that jeep of yours ever see dirt? Well I have jeeps. They are a good choice for the area I live. And I also do a lot of off-road driving, rock crawling etc. And they get me to the more remote areas to prospect. Here is a pic of the 97 Wrangler before I changed out the fenders, bigger tires & little lift. Here is the jeep on a day trip with some friends. You can see the fenders have been changed. And the next is with the homemade push bar/bumper This is how its set up for summer with tube doors and bikini top… And then this 97 Cherokee that is going to be set up as a dedicated off road vehicle. The first pic is the jeep at the family ranch and the second is both jeeps as I tackle the snow right before Christmas. And then just for fun, my Honda 350 ATC with my flamed out tank.

M

Now that’s a jeep! No, mine doesn’t see any dirt here in Miami, it’s not even 4 wheel drive! I only got the tubular bumpers because i kept denting the stock plasitc ones and i got tired of having them fixed. Once i saw how the stainless looked I kept adding more. It’s all just for show…

L

Currently I drive a 2001 Ford Focus, but my favorite car was my 1979 Ford Thunderbird. I wish I hadn’t sold the thing, but it was running pretty bad, and 8 MPG isn’t quite ideal. If I ever get my scanner to work again I’ll get a pic posted.

J

I currently drive a yellow 2007 Isuzu i-290 pickup that everybody thinks is a chevy. Isuzu makes them for GM under the name Colorado and Canyon. As long as we are talking favorites, I had a 455 1976 Trans Am just like the car in th 1st Smokey and the Bandit movie. I was the top predator on the street with it in 1983 in high school. 12 sec. 1/4mi. and top end of about 170mph those were the days.

S

As promised a picture of my 1990 Peugeot 205 gti. Nothing fancy, just an unmolested good old fashioned hot hatch that takes me back to my youth.

P

Lotus Elise for track events. 190 bhp conversion by Bell & Colvill. 190 bhp might not sound huge, but on a car weighing about two ounces it makes it fast - very fast.

R

@sandy130674: Congrats,I always fancy a 205 GTI,one of the guys in my tonw has it,but it doesn’t seem in a very good condition. I’m currently driving my dads Kia Spectra '04 1.4 CRDI 102 HP

T

The 250 gti reminds me of a smaller version of the AMC Gremlin. Only I think the one in the top pic here will go faster. Nice clean/sharp cars you guys have there. But I would need that bottom 4x4 Gremlin where I live. Cars are not the most practical thing here especially during winter.

C

I drive a 2005 Dodge Dakota. It’s black, pretty basic.

L

Fiat Panda 1999, white. Sometimes Fiat Ducato 1.2 jtd, or volkswagen transporter 1.5 “4motion” ambulances

J

LOL, I drive a 1984 F-150,step side, rusted to hell, baby blue, leans to one side, but runs like a champ… His name is Henry and he’s older than i am. I will try and post a pic if i get time it will be well worth it for you guys to see.

T

nothing wrong with a strong running ranch truck

B

I drive a 2005 Cadillac Escalade. I love it. Rides high and smooth like a Cadillac. It’s a great ride. Here in NJ, with about 6 or so inches of snow on the ground I can drive like there is no snow at all!

B

bigbuyer. Ahhhhhhh…only in my dreams! Would love to have one of those!

O

didn’t we have a thread like this somewhere already? here’s my economizer…lol

C

Just plain sexy.

S

This is my last motor car, I parked it half on a swing bridge!

S

Onefortheroad, is that an Oldsmobile Cutlass circa 1969? As a Brit, I’m not an expert on American cars, but I do have a soft-spot for muscle cars.

C

A 2001 Plymouth Neon, and my little 1971 Honda CT90. Here’s a pic of the Honda:

C

onefortheroad, is that an S or a 442?

S

This is what I prefer driving.

M

I drive a Red 2004 Dodge Neon…very spartan with nothing fancy…but I pretty much lived in it last year due to the nature of my work, and great gas mileage too! I REALLY miss my 1997 Ford Explorer…had its passenger side door caved in from an accident and both headlights were held in place with tape…it had 170k miles on it when I sold it two years ago, thinking that it didn’t have much more life in it… I kick myself every time I visit my home town and see its current owner cruising around in it…

C

My Neon has been trouble. Less than 70k, and it needs a head gasket. I’ve never abused the car, nor let it overheat. Blah.

M

Mine, for awhile, would not start for no reason, but then fire up when jumped. It was completely random. I couldn’t have that, of course, since getting stranded in Nebraska/Wyoming in the dead of winter in the middle of nowhere wasn’t an option, and I had to travel A LOT, but a new starter seemed to fix all the problems. Of course, I’m laid off now so I do about zero traveling. I wonder, Carol, if the fact that yours is a Plymouth and mine is a Dodge has anything to do with it? I’ve put 20k miles on mine over two years and its, except for my aforementioned issue, done just fine? Maybe its just a fluke?

C

Strange thing, my Neon doesn’t even get warm when you start it. If anything, it’s slightly cold blooded. The fluid loss was so light, I thought it was a pinhole leak in the radiator until I saw fluid dripping from the tailpipe. Unfortunately, my mechanic verified my fears. We are relying on my bf’s ancient Toyota and our trail bikes to get around until we can get the Neon fixed.

C

I read that article the other day. My car should have the newer gasket though. Oh well, I guess my car had different ideas.

Z

I commute 110 miles round-trip daily in my trusty 2001 Honda Civic EX Coupe with 278K-plus miles on it. At 38-40 highway mpg and in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition, I don’t even think of getting rid of it. Our other car is a 2007 Honda CR-V EX-L, which my wife drives daily to work and we use for travel.

C

I wish I had a picture of my old schoolbus. I miss that thing. I don’t miss feeding it though.

N

.

Z

My daily driver is a 2001 Honda Civic EX Couple . I commute 100 miles round-trip each day, all interstate (I-95) and certainly appreciate the 40 mpg highway mileage it gets. It has just over 285,000 miles on it and runs like new. All I do with regard to maintenance is change the oil and filter quarterly, change the spark-plugs every 100,00 miles, and replace the front brake pads about every 3 years. I changed the rear brake shoes for the first time at 265,000, just because I was getting concerned about them…they still had about 3/32" of surface on them. Our other car is a 2007 Honda CR-V…which my wife drives daily. And I have her drive me around on the weekend because I’m just sick of driving by then.

O

let’s see some pics. sounds like it would be fun to beat on. in the '80’s I had a 1975 ford f-150 with a 351 in it. bought it with a friend for $75 just to have fun with. the days of no seat belt or insurance laws were nice that way, all you needed was a license plate and you were legal. we used to take it off-road and see how high we could jump it. a couple times we couldn’t believe the truck was still in one piece. it’s amazing no one got hurt. one day we got it stuck on it’s belly out on some trails. came back to tow it out the next day and someone had stolen all the wheels, which would have been easy since none were touching the ground. took a couple days before we found some replacement wheels for cheap and by then anything glass or plastic was smashed so we pulled off the plates and abandoned it there. some developer must have junked it without a title (I still have the title) since there’s a big townhouse complex there these days.

M

I had a 63 impala my last year of high school that that was totally beat up. That thing was a tank! Me and my friends would take it to field parties, get drunk and jump up and down on it, couldn’t hurt it. I ran over a tree once and it barely dented the licence plate frame. The headliner was falling down the seats were torn to shreds and the floor of the backseat was completely filled with beer bottles. The thing was also completely rusted out. We called it the “massive” and my friends to this day talk and reminisce about that car, and that was 1980. The only good thing was a great stereo! I also abandoned it on the side of the road when it broke down. i took the stereo and the tag and left it. I paid $250.00 for it from the original owner.

Z

I drive boring cars. i have a 2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx and a 2009 Scion xB. Well, the Scion’s not so boring. Just very reliable.

Y

Before Kids: BMW z3 3.0 Roadster and a Chrysler 300M After Kids: Ford Explorer and a Toyota Sienna

S

Nice ride Nosechaw954. As for myself, living in Arizona, and being unemployed, I either borrow cars or get rides, or (more often) walk or ride a bike. Walking or biking is great for snuffing, too, since you get all that nice fresh air to aerate your snuffs aroma.

Z

bigblue1, don’t tell anyone! That thing has more power than a midsized hatchback has any business having. I looked for an SS, but no luck there. At the time I really needed a car, and there was only ONE Maxx SS for sale that I could find and would consider, in Denver. But yeah, for my work, which involves 6-8 hour drives weekly, it’s a lot of fun. And with winter coming up, the heated suede seats are a godsend here in WI.

A VW Golf 2. It is a legendary car in my country. Some people still believe those cars can fly if the driver is crazy enough. I got a true one from Germany 3 years ago for only 6000$ I loved her. Do anybody else have feelings about his/her car? My car is my girlfriend, so I’ll call it ‘she’. She was a young 10 years old car at only 20 000km when I got her. It looks like the previous owners were keeping her locked in the garage. She is now at more than 160 000km and still the same good car.VW Golf 2 Mine is light blue metalic in color.

B

@Lyubo My family had a 4 door Rabbit Diesel when I was a boy-kind of a turd, but I liked it. My second car was a 65 Beetle, 1200 cc 40 hp., hands down my favorite car even though it was the slowest. I worked on it so much I developed a real relationship with that car, doing all the maint.! I got into the engine’s bottom end, so I suppose you could say I had relations with it! LOL My one regret is not buying a 1965 21 window bus with the canvas pull back top for $1,000.00 when I was 18.That had the 4o hp 1200 cc ,too. Damn, I still kick myself… (nice car you’ve got)

A

Don’t drive at all, never have. Managed quite well in 5 countries this far despite lack of driving license. Public transport is great, especially trains! Don’t know how America is now, but in 1930’s there was the best public transport system in the world. Seems everybody is driving cars nowadays.

M

MDX. about 7 years old

J

2004 Saturn Ion. Nothing fancy but it fit my criteria when I bought it new: low options, low price, I could fit into it, and it had to be a manual transmission.

B

Currently,1986 Toyota Forerunner,229,000 miles, 4 cylinder, Thrush ‘cherry bomb’ equipped, fair amount of rust…

B

Nice car, Lofat. I had a 1966 200D ‘Fintail’ right before I got married for $500.00. Really wish I kept it. It was a real quality made car.

R

'07 Eclipse GT. This one (the GS) isn’t mine, but mine is the same color & has the window tints <3

S

I was wanting to get one of them Eclipse’s, but I had to get something with room for a 3 year old. Damn family life sucks hahahah. So I got this yesterday, a 2008 Dodge AvengerUploaded with ImageShack.us

O

A 2010 Kona Dew Plus!

D

Most days, a '96 Fatboy, main work commuter. Other wise we have two 1973 Dodge Darts (planning on getting rid of them soon) a 1990 Lincoln Town Car, a 1997 E-150 Mark III Conversion van and a 2005 Buick Rendezvous. The last one might be for sale soon if my wife cannot find gainful employment. Might be selling the Lincoln as well. I ride the bike so much for work and just sick of all the cars around. Looking at an Astro conversion van as my band gear toter. Ken

J

@devilock76: '73 Darts, eh? Sport or Swinger? I had a '75 Sport with a 225 and the 833 4-speed. If I wasn’t flat broke I’d make you an offer, hehehe…

D

Swingers, one with a hopped up 318 auto with the front disc brake option factory. The other is just a no frills 225 slant six 3 on the tree parts donor. Ken

K

Where do you live devil and how much would you want for one of those??

K

1974 Ford F100 Ranger XLT w/ 390 This is what mine pretty much looks like, except mine has the Farm Spot Light on the top.

D

Well, I am in NC, near Raleigh, but the cars are in Jacksonville NC. There is a bit of confusion regarding them and their current local that a friend has been unable to shed light on yet. Honestly they are still mostly in project stages. If I knew a buyer who wanted to continue the project I think I would be more than reasonable to have them out of my hair. Just don’t have the time or muscle car urge. Figure I would rather spend the time working on motorcycles. Ken

J

Damnation, Ken, if I had the means and the wherewithal I’d take 'em both! Unfortunately all I have is an old Suzuki GS400 and not a dime, so best of luck on those!!!

D

Suzuki GS 400 you say, hehehhehe Ken

J

A GS400X, in fact. The one with manual drum brakes, only a neutral indicator (instead of the full six-count gear indicator), and kick-start only. I guess that was part of its appeal, but having a young daughter and working on building another kid soon, not much time or fundage to get her up and running. Then again, it could be argued I don’t have time or fundage to restore a car, either. Eh well.

P

I’m in the process of trading my '05 Ford Bantam pickup for either a new Fiesta or Ikon. Will decide next week which one it will be. I will still have my '98 Mondeo which is my wife’s knock about. I love Ford vehicles!!

J

Ah the Mondeo; if only that platform had taken off well here. It was sold here in the States as the Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique, but the US market was still glutting on SUVs and large pickups and sales flagged. My friend had a V6/5-speed Contour and loved it; they were well-made cars but the market just wasn’t ready for them. Hopefully Ford can capture some more of the small-car market with the Fiesta. I’ve driven a few of them and while I like the manual, the twin-clutch sequential automatic has a bit of an odd feel. Nothing new to folks in Europe but it might feel weird to your average American youngster, whom is doubtlessly Ford’s marketing target…

P

I’ve decided on the Ikon 1.6 Trend manual and I’ve placed my order today.

B

Pieter, How would you feel if I shipped an El Camino down to you to get you off those Fords?

T

97 Ford Taurus SHO. Biggest piece of shit money pit I’ve ever had.

P

@Bart, wow, now you’re talking!! A V8 El Camino for burning rubber. Nothing beats cubic inches. And there’s no sweeter music than the throb of a V8 from a straight, open exhaust.

B

That’s right, Pieter! Utes aren’t too popular here anymore. I’ve always loved the El Camino, especially the '59, which had the DELUXE styling. Sad too, all the good station wagons are used up in Demolition Derbys …

S

El Camino’s, my first car. well it was actually my dad’s, but I got to drive it right when I turned 16. 1979 El Camino with a small block 327 in it. now thats a car I wish I still had

J

I was working at GM when Pontiac released the last version of the GTO, which we all know was a rebadged Holden Monaro. I dunno about the GTO itself; the trim and badges were straight from a Grand Prix parts bin (or at least it looked that way), but we had been given an unmolested Monaro GT8 to play with in the early days. Man, what a car. LS6 5.7L V8 and 5-speed, it was a joy to behold…

D

@Janitor, most people I know love their first gen SHO’s, that is of course till they have to go under the hood for ANYTHING. Yamaha really made that car a bear to work on. Ken

P

I’m still waiting for my new car. It arrived in the Durban docks last Wednesday, might be at the dealer on Tuesday. Hopefully I will have it by the weekend. I’m going on a short vacation to the West Coast from 6th of September and will enjoy doing so in a new vehicle. It seems as if waiting for snuff orders has given me more patience. In the past I would not have been able to wait for the right car and would have taken 2nd best. This time round I’m not in a hurry at all, as long as I can take delivery before my holiday. It’s been 5 years since I bought my last new vehicle.

P

@ Pieter…with age comes patience. congrats on the new vehicle. Enjoy!!

S

Nothing special but I love both of them. Honda Jazz and Honda PCX

H

I drive a 2005 Dodge Sprinter ( a Mercedes Benz in disguise) truck. It’s my work truck and what I drive 99% of the time. It’s great for the air conditioning service business that I do.

P

My new car is ready and I’m going to fetch it tomorrow!

B

Please tell me you went with the El Camino…wait, you’re a Ford man,the Ranchero, then!!..

P

Bart, I could not afford a Ranchero, bought a silver Ikon Trend. Lots of nice goodies and gadgets. I’m quite happy, the ride is soft like a big car. Power? At 74kw and 143Nm, it’s not a F1 car but it’s OK. It’s maybe a better car for me at my aged. It’s not sluggish but…It’s a twin cam, 16 valve job and should rev nicely but at 5000rpm it seems to run out of breath. But it’s only done 90km so far, it might loosen up a bit with time. At the moment, the Bantam will run circles around it I was used to my 2005 Ford Bantam 1.6XLT half ton pickup. It’s extremely nippy, fast pull away, nice passing power, superb handling, especially on a winding road and it just begs to be DRIVEN. The Rokam single cam, 8 valve motor runs like a clock and can be revved right up to 6500 rpm without complaining. Did 200kph on the clock easily and I drove it at that speed for many kilometres when we went up country. I’m gonna miss that little sport. It’s now in my son’s hands and he’s a speed fanatic too. It’s only done 38,000km, so it should serve him well for many more years. In the mean time, I still have my faithful '98 Mondeo which will shit over both the Ikon and the Bantam. I will really try to post pictures of all 3 the vehicles soon.

B

Be nice to see the new ride. Btw, they quit producing Ranchero’s round here in 1979. You mean they are still available where you’re at Pieter? I’m coming down…

C

The Bantam is a pretty nice looking truck. I’ll take that over my Dakota.

P

Bart, we get them from Australia, beautiful beasts, look like the Ford Fairmont. We even have a XR6 model which is a very hot version and exclusive to South Africa.

I

@snuff-belgium Nice Honda PCX!! I ride a scooter too~ Given a choice, I don’t want to stick any reflectice tapes on Patty (yes, I have named her), but they do increase my chances of being noticed by other drivers, so safety first. Regarding the milk crate mounted at the back (wrapped in plastic wrappers), if I had the money than of course I would choose a top case instead, but since I had spent it all on the scooter and other more important accessories, a milk crate that is free (I admit it is stolen from a local bakery late at night) and lighter seems like a good alternative. My friend joked that I look like a delivery guy, but he is just jealous that I made true of my words to get my license and scooter. I get a lot of nice responses from passer-by and other drivers though.

P

@itsuke, wish I could still ride a motorbike but our traffic is just to bad. Our roads were designed 30/40 years ago without any thoughts of the future. I took the Ikon to the open road today. Quite willing but agh…it’s electronically limited to 180kph. It can be removed but then the guarantee is effected.

X

Pieter: Are you ready for the Cape Town to Cairo trek, now?

P

@Xander, what I would like to do (dreaming) is the Cairo to Cape trek! Mountain bike tour which takes about 3 months to complete. Btw, the speed restriction “problem” on the Ikon has been solved. It’s now limited to 6800rpm in any gear. I can’t see it reaching that in 5th gear but it should go to 200kph now.

X

Pieter: I was looking at this outfit not long back: Tour d’Afrique I’d have to get a more all-terrian type bike for this, I’m dreaming too for now, but when the time is right…just let me know when you are ready. This tour does not follow the traditional route but goes across Namibia instead. Also its supported, and I prefer to haul my own gear and be more independent, but I’m willing to compromise that. Still, must keep one pannier for a three month supply of snuff!

P

@Xander, yes that’s the one I’m talking about. My FELT is the perfect bike for such a tour but my bank balance is to small.

C

I drive a rumbly 1987 Chevy Silverado 350 tbi and i love her. i’ve rebuilt nearly the entire truck and i’m gettin ready to do the sheetmetal work, repaint and lower. Then i have a 86 Toyota Supra that i’m going to rebuild and stuff a twin turbo 2jz motor into weeee…zoommm!!! :"> Also have an 89 suzuki samurai three inch lift for the desert/mountain work, oh i mean play. :-"

Toyota just recalled, well they’re calling it a ‘safety campaign’, my '05 Tacoma to undercoat or replace the frame at no charge… Same thing happened to my '00 Tacoma only that time they bought it back for nearly twice the blue book price. I’m driving a VW sportswagen diesel now.

W

Yea they rusted out really bad I hear. When I take a peak under mine, the frame looks pretty rusty, but apparently my year is OK. X_X

P

According to Mrs. Perique, I “drive” her crazy. :))
