OT: First Snus Order

I posted this on snuson, but thought I would share here too: Ok, I admit, I am at heart an inveterate snuffer. I regularly dabble in other forms of nicotine delivery (pipe, dip, occasional cigar, stonewall tabs) but for that massive nic hit that leaves you reeling in 30 seconds nothing beats snuff. There is sound science behind this claim. Closest to satisfying me (until yesterday) has been Gutkha. Well worth trying if you can get you hands on some. I have tried a couple of US Snus: Camel, Nordic Ice, Klondike, Discreet and was left singularly unimpressed. Barely any nicotine, sickly sweet, somewhat dry…why bother? Yesterday, my life changed. I received my first test order of snus. WOW! In my package: couple tins each of - Skruf Extra Stark, Thunder Extra Stark Frosted, and Odens Extra Stark. The buzz is slower to emerge, but man, I have to admit I got a great big fat nic hit off each of these. To the extent that after 30 mins or so I actually had to take it out my mouth. Compare that to US snus where I can sit with 2 bags or a big wadge of loose in my mouth and still need a snuff hit to boost the blood/nic levels. In short: I am a convert. _(edit: don’t worry, snuff is still number one!)_In the interests of transparency, as any snuffers out there know, I own MrSnuff.com. I just took a plunge and got some Makla in stock. Haven’t tried it yet because I am stateside and the warehouse is relocated to the UK, but I will get some pretty soon. I hear that it is strong too (hence my desire to get some in stock - so I can get my hands on as much as I need). I am thinking I need to get some snus in stock now. After all one of the perks is I get to have an endless supply of snuff, so why not snus too. If you have any suggestions for me personally (ie what you would stock if you owned a store) it would be much appreciated. I am impressed, and now have a much better understanding of why snus is so popular. Dave

My favorite snus’: Thunder Original Loose General Extra Stark Loose

Dave, it seems you are starting out with the Sterks, chasing the dragon! Try the General extra sterk longs. My favorite Sterk is the most excellent Lucky Strike bold, in which shipping to the USA is prohibited. My favorite standard is also Lucky Strike, running low now, I stocked a freezer a year ago before the trouble started. I would recommend trying Skruf. My main go to is Grov and Ettan, those two are the most popular regular portions that have the most natural tobacco flavor. Enjoy the Sterk rush, it will not last!

You should alternate sterks with regular strength, I believe. I’d use a sterk in the morning and after lunch, and then regular the other times.

Ettan, Loose and OP, is my favorite snus hands down. Dave, are you going to have a US warehouse ala northerner? I thought one couldn’t sell such things from the UK.

I’m with cstokes4 as far as General Extra Stark loose is concerned. I also love Grov and Roda Lacket loose.

Oh my, so much snus to try. I would check out gotlandssnus, a real quality product and a teeny bit stronger than regular portions. Personal faves other than all the Gots are Ettan, Grov, 01/02, Roda Lackett, General Xtra Sterk, Montechristo.

I have just popped in a Oden’s Extra Stark. Wonderful. Great tobacco flavor and (@whalen) what a rush!

I bought some snus when I quit my pack-a-day chain-smoking habit, thinking all that smoking made me “hardcore”. As it turns out, I can only use it occasionally, sterk or not. Good stuff, but whoa.

snus definatly kicks some nic into you.

@mr. snuff, Dave, after the thrill subsides try dusting it with a little D white! Then try sticking in two sterks! Slippery slope that nic dragon. I usually have two sterks a day, first thing in the morning, Odens Extra kanal (cinnamon) with coffee. Scruf Extra Sterk in the afternoon. I often have to yank one out and recover a little. Sixteen months smoke free with snus now. Snuff is just for fun! Hey just wanted to thank you for your efforts on the Samuel Gawith Tins, Gawith Hoggarth tubs, and the Braniffs, they have been thoroughly enjoyed, and expanded my knowledge of great snuffs. The Malka ought to fit the bill, just not crazy about the health risks, Snus is just such a great TSNA compromise.

Nice!! I look forward to being able to meet all my snuff, snus, and pipe needs with one vendor!!! I love snuff, but would _REALLY_ miss snus.

The Odens line and Landströms. Now, if you want some really nicotine buzze, I’ve heard that Sudanese toombak will do nicely, although good luck finding a reliable dealer there.

Dave, in addition to the suggestions above, you may also want to consider Swedish Match Lab Series 01 and 02, Thunder Berry Blend, and Göteborgs Rapé.

General Onyx will knock your block off. Different flavor than most other snus’s out there. Not as salty from the get go, lemony, and a bit of pungentness, thinking Dholokia Black.

I ordered these from northerner: loose landstrum, offroad frosted, kronan, goteborgs rape, gellivere, general, ettan. I know nothing about snus will I like any of these?

I don’t know, but these are well known Snus brands. It’s just a try it and see. I just ordered the 20 can Offroad and Thunder grab-bag sales, so I don’t know what I’ll be getting or if I will like it.

Landströms and Gellivare may be a bit difficult for a beginner to snus. They’re good, just saying don’t be too quick to write them off if they give you trouble at first.

they are actualy both really tasty snuses. Their containers looks cool but seem functionaly lame. I don’t know what it is they are the only snuses I’ve tried that seem to dry out really fast once the tin is opened and the tins never seem to really seal completely. Oh yeah talking about the landstroms and Gellivare.

Bob I think those tins are the only ones that dry out while they are sealed. I’ve yet to open a tin of either that didn’t need some added moisture. Good snus, lousy packaging.
