When I get paid in two weeks im doing my tobacco orders that I do every few months, $50 on snuff and now Im thinking of buying another $50 of snus. Ive used protion and it just didnt deliver the kick I wanted, so im thinking of trying loose. How does it compare taste, strength and salivation wise? can you swallow with loose? I was going to go with just the regular dip but im thinking ill switch it up this time.
I would go with a stark which is a strong snus. Anything weaker may not be enough for you. I suggest Skruf Stark if you can get it, either in loose (los) or in portion form. The los handbakes like putty and you can use more than 1g so more than comes in a portion. Best of luck.
And if you need a referal to snus.de just send me a private message
I’ve used loose on and off, more off now because of the EU ban, for a few years and really prefer it a lot more than the portions. My favourites are General, Ettan and Skruf extra sterk. I found that there is more flavor with los, almost a bit like smoking a cigar, in the sense that the flavor rolls around in your mouth. There is a bigger kick with the loose especially since you can control the portion size. Salivation shouldn’t be an issue or wasn’t for me at least since the los is actually a bit dryer than the snus in the portion bags. A portion tool was a must for me, at the mo I’ve got 2 icetools a 3ml and a 5ml, they are pretty expensive but well worth it. If you feel like you need a portion tool you could make your own with a plastic syringe or buy a prismaster that go for about 3 USD. Hope that helps.
keep it cold in the fridge
Loose is a more unencumbered flavor in some respects … and as said by Ansel and zaffing, you can handbake a bigger prilla … giving more nicotine and lasting longer. It will take some time to get the hang of loose … but it gets easier. I usually only do about 1 or 2 loose prillas a day … as far as “gutting” … same as with portions … no worries, no need to spit. ansel recommends sterks … that might help with nic delivery … bear in mind that snus builds up your nicotine slowly … and if you are popping portions all day, you should have ample nicotine. but … for sterks, i prefer lab02, lab05, general long sterk … skruf uses rose oil, and it just doesn’t sit well with me … thunder is an economical stark and they have a variety of flavors but they give me “niccups” and they taste very plastic and burn. Swedish Match by far produces the best quality snus, in my opinion, ettan being my favorite. for their starks/sterks/strong they have Nick and Johnny, General Sterk/ekstra sterk, Grov Svart, etc. as far as Los … Ettan is the best, for sure … also Prima Fint … Grov … then from there it’s a matter of taste. Bergamot or no bergamot, etc. but you can’t go wrong with Loose … enjoy!
Brands of ‘los’ snus vary in their appearance and consistency in the tub. Gotlandsnus los looks like wet coffee grinds and is a bit tricky to pinch and bake (in my admittedly limited experience). Offroad is a bit more ‘clumpy’ and therefore easier to mould into a pris. Some (most?) brands contain a humectant to help keep them moist, and one of the cool things about Swedish snus is that these are listed in the ingredients, so you know exactly what you are putting in your lip. Snus is classified as a food product in Sweden, and as such all additives must be certified food-safe by the good people at the European Food Safety Authority! I’ve rarely experienced excess saliva with los, and I’ve been able to swallow any build-up without adverse effects. The only drawbacks I can see with los (as opposed to portion) snus are that you have to wipe the tobacco juice off your hands after baking a pris, and that disposing of said pris can be a little messy, particularly if it disintegrates in your mouth before you get a chance to remove it!
@Ansel I definitely want to try Skruf next time I order snus - thanks for the suggestion on the main snus thread!
@brigstowe Try skruf los mate, it bakes like a dream for me… not clumpy or lumpy just great.
I don’t know well snus.In France if snuff has clearly desapeared, snus is practicaly unknown. By hasard I have two tins of belgium one “malka ifrikia”…Not bad… I asked myself if strong portion(on for example some at 20% of nicotine)are enough confortables for an aproach, also What tastes could be interesting.
@gandalf “malka ifrikia” is classed as a chewing tobacco here in the UK and is not said to be as safe as Swedish snus as is not made in the Swedish tradition.
The blue one…Neffa Ifrikia, is a nasal snuff and a very good one at that.
Neffa Ifrika is great. The other oral ones make me want to throw up. I still have one unopened in my freezer. I don’t think I’ll ever use it.
It’s a bit strange Ansel"malka ifrikia" have an snus aspect, not a stick like tobbacco chewing…But I’m not a specialist. I’ve got Neffa ifrika too,but very recently.
@gandalf cool… well Swedish snus is what you want if you are aiming to take a tobacco with a low amount of TSNAs. I recommend Skruf Stark los…
The Thunder brand from V2 comes in several flavors, and they are all stark or extra stark. I’m very partial to Thunder Berry Blend, and it’s got plenty of kick. Also, Oden’s has introduced an Extreme line, which is supposed to deliver more nicotine per portion than any other snus. I haven’t tried it yet, but it seems to be very popular.
I love Ettan in all of its formats. Some day I’ll pick up some Skruf to change it up…kinda pricey to ship that one to America last I checked…
mmm Ettan
Ettan is the best … i cannot get enough … white portions, original portions, loose … pure goodness. Oldest brand for a reason! let’s hope, for us US folks, that it takes hold in the trial cities and they sell it OTC at a gas station near you!
@snuffbrant=YES! I would be delighted if my brand caught on and I could get it local. Though around here I’m sure they’d sell it for $6.50 a pop and it would still be cheaper to order off the internet even with the shipping…
