New to Snuffing/Recommended flavors or brands?

@Atl_Snuffer put the dislike up for trade while fresh. http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/6682/snuffhouse-marketplace-members-please-post-your-buy-sell-trade-requests-here#latest

Wait a while before you trade any of 'em, you might find your nose has a think about it and you get drawn back to them, I’ve had that happen. Seems to me you’ve got a lot of light, fine snuffs there but are missing some coarser grinds, such as WoS Best Dark and Sam Gawith’s Kendal Brown, both great snuffs.

@HR_pufnsnuff thanks i will have to give those a try, i put the tin lid loosely on them and placed in a cigar box to sit for a few weeks to mature and i will come back to them. But the ones i did like i liked immediately and only seem to get better as well, so i will see here in a few weeks how they are, and thanks for the suggestions as well.

Keep all your snuffs! Do not trade or sell them. Your nose will adjust in time, your tastes will broaden and become more sophisticated. If you store them correctly, or even if you don’t, and they dry out, don’t worry, they can all be re-hydrated. I have a jar of 1936 Regno de Italia snuff. I rarely use it, but it has a really great, vintage scent. Pale yellow and fine, the original wrapper with date. I’m not that old myself, bought it from a strange guy on eBay. Keep them all, and buy many different types. There really are only a few, what I will call “bad” snuffs. Almost all snuffs will appeal to you at some time. The only snuff I grew to hate was Fubar Bohica. I loved the scent, texture, but could not stand the intense heat of the chili or whatever they use to make it so hot. But now(!!!), a few years later, I can actually take it and enjoy it. So, the moral of the story is just give them all some time. I never thought I’d like Sam Gawith florals, after reading about how horrible and artificial they were. But guess what? I really love them, albeit in limited doses!

@mrmanos thanks for the input! for now i have them stored in a cigar box and i will let them sit for a few weeks maybe more and come back and take a few sniffs and see how it is.

Yeah do that. I have lots of snuffs in cigar boxes that I don’t use very often. But, then I’ll get one out and just kind of binge on, say, all my Indian snuffs. Or all my F&Ts, or Gawiths, or Old Mills, whatever. They really never go bad, and you can also put them in the freezer or fridge. I keep all my Molen’s from Holland snuffs in the freezer, and also my super vintage old ones, like the Dean Swifts I got on eBay that were made in the 70s or 80s. Still all real good, even though I don’t do them all the time. And some will actually improve over time. For example, I read a lot about F&T Old Paris, so I bought a tin. Didn’t like it, let it sit in a cigar box for over a year! Now, it has matured and is really nice. And I read about that on this site from several older, more experienced dudes( even though I’m a lot older than most people here). So, you’re doing the right thing. Just get more snuff, and try lots of different ones. Almost all of them can be good sooner or later.

I agree with @mrmanos Keep them, at least for a good long while. I finally figured out how to enjoy F&T “mainline” snuffs: I cut them with a plain snuff to balance out the intense scents. HDT being the big exception. I don’t indulge in them often, but I’m glad I kept them and figured out how to make them more palatable to my nose. Having indulged in this hobby since the early seventies I can’t say I actually HATE a snuff. Depends on my mood, time of day, season, relative humidity, the alignment of Saturn and Uranus, atmospheric pressure and whether my Maine Coon is in the vicinity…you’ll find a snuff to fit your circumstances. For me it’s about the journey, not the destination.

@chefdaniel what do you cut your F&T blends with? I’ve got some Bordeaux that almost makes me sick after awhile.

@Barbertrey I cut bordeaux with viking dark or toque quit 4:1. Depending on whether I want a dark or light(er) snuff.

Thanks @SandwhichIsles , would the same work for a Viking Blonde?

@Barbertrey Viking Dark is very good, GH Kendal Brown works for some of them. I’m also working with Bernard Gekachelter Virginie with some very old Seville and that seems to be working, but it’s a little early to tell. It takes time to tame the F&T scent concentration; they all, with the exception of HDT, make me want to worship at the porcelain altar. Ratios vary, but @SandwhichIsles 4:1 is a great starting point.

@barbertrey viking blonde would work, as would any plain snuff. But since (to me) blonde dosen’t have the same depth of flavor as dark I would up the ratio a little, 5:1 maybe. Maybe higher. In the end just experiment and see what works for you.
