Welcome! Looks like you have plenty to do for a while. Lots of decent snuffs there, but I note an absence of SPs and unscented ones. Abraxas St. Casura is a nice bridge; Viking Dark, Bernard Virginie, Sir Walter Scott Havana Toast or Field of Junipers, Old Mill Puro Dominicans are all favorites of mine and worthy of a try.

Thanks! i appreciate all the suggestions i tried to avoid the SPs and unscented ones at first because i wasn’t too sure which ones were “safe” to go with. I have been using some various scotchs as well, Honey Bee, W.E Garrett, and Bruton, for the time being, but I will definitely have to add those to my wish list!

Looks to me you have made nice choices.Toque Almond toast and whisky & honey I’d include on my next cart. And you should really check out Old Mill Artisan snuffs they are awesome <:-P

why thank you, that order was the labor of a lot of research from you guys, i was debating the almond toast and decided not based on the mixed reviews on it, but that whisky and honey has me intrigued, i consider myself quite the whiskey aficionado too, so that’s definitely going on my next order. And thanks for the recommendation, are there certain places i could buy Old Mill Artisan Snuff and also what are some of your recommended scents for those?

R

De Kralingse Chococreme is an amazing beginner snuff… Very smooth, with chocolate and cigar notes! Highly recommended from me and my friends!!

A

thanks i am definitely putting that on my next order, i have seen the brand De Kralingse and heard people talk about different scents from them (in particular bonbon) but decided to never take the plunge, don’t know why, considering a 12.5G tub is only $2.95!!!

don’t miss F&T line with your nex order, i think you will be surprised with the highly perfumed snuffs.

L

I have a Fribourg & Treyer Bordeaux 25g coming with my next order never tried it before so it should be interesting, and i actually have been looking for a “grandma’s perfume” sorta snuff, reminds me alot of my childhood. ive been debating with my next order to throw a 10G of Bernard Fichtennadel, or Aecht Alt Schmalzler for a nice sampler as well.

V

What a first order! I think you’ll enjoy the variety you have there. Blueberry menthol and Spanish gem are fantastic toques, I think they really show off Toques expertise at scenting and first class snufg production. Also, I think you’ve picked a nice toast to start with, IHT #22 is a constant rotation feature for me. Definitely do try the High Dry Toast from Fribourg and Treyer when you can though!

A

@vitellius yeah ive been hearing good things about F&T i have a nice little variety pack in my cart right now.

B

McChrystals Hops- Yummy

A

@basement_shaman i have a 8.75G tin in my cart right now. I wanted to try it and i haven’t heard a single bad review on it really. And im a huge fan of darker brews, IPAs, etc so i think its right up my alley.

S

@Atl_Snuffer As a beer geek and a hophead I can say Hops is great. It’s not like an IPA though, more like a hefeweizen with lemon or a witbier. Good stuff.

J

If you are after Grandma’s perfume then I recommend WoS Jockey Club.

A

@Justin yeah ive heard about that one, but always overlooked it, thanks!

Update: i have just finished trying all of the scents from this order and here is my verdict of them thus far, the ones i dont like i am loosely capping and storing in a cigar box for a few weeks. Like: Toque Vanilla Toque Blueberry Menthol Toque Spanish Gem McCrystals Raspberry McCrystals Mild Lemon Dholakia Swiss Chocolate WoS Coffee Cream WoS Jasmine WoS Extra Crumbs Of Comfort Dislike: Samuel Gawith Banana Poshl LowenPrise Toque Cheese & Bacon WoS Clove WoS Apple WoS Irish Toast No 22 Ozana Cherry

@Atl_Snuffer put the dislike up for trade while fresh. http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/6682/snuffhouse-marketplace-members-please-post-your-buy-sell-trade-requests-here#latest

H

Wait a while before you trade any of 'em, you might find your nose has a think about it and you get drawn back to them, I’ve had that happen. Seems to me you’ve got a lot of light, fine snuffs there but are missing some coarser grinds, such as WoS Best Dark and Sam Gawith’s Kendal Brown, both great snuffs.

A

@HR_pufnsnuff thanks i will have to give those a try, i put the tin lid loosely on them and placed in a cigar box to sit for a few weeks to mature and i will come back to them. But the ones i did like i liked immediately and only seem to get better as well, so i will see here in a few weeks how they are, and thanks for the suggestions as well.

M

Keep all your snuffs! Do not trade or sell them. Your nose will adjust in time, your tastes will broaden and become more sophisticated. If you store them correctly, or even if you don’t, and they dry out, don’t worry, they can all be re-hydrated. I have a jar of 1936 Regno de Italia snuff. I rarely use it, but it has a really great, vintage scent. Pale yellow and fine, the original wrapper with date. I’m not that old myself, bought it from a strange guy on eBay. Keep them all, and buy many different types. There really are only a few, what I will call “bad” snuffs. Almost all snuffs will appeal to you at some time. The only snuff I grew to hate was Fubar Bohica. I loved the scent, texture, but could not stand the intense heat of the chili or whatever they use to make it so hot. But now(!!!), a few years later, I can actually take it and enjoy it. So, the moral of the story is just give them all some time. I never thought I’d like Sam Gawith florals, after reading about how horrible and artificial they were. But guess what? I really love them, albeit in limited doses!

A

@mrmanos thanks for the input! for now i have them stored in a cigar box and i will let them sit for a few weeks maybe more and come back and take a few sniffs and see how it is.

M

Yeah do that. I have lots of snuffs in cigar boxes that I don’t use very often. But, then I’ll get one out and just kind of binge on, say, all my Indian snuffs. Or all my F&Ts, or Gawiths, or Old Mills, whatever. They really never go bad, and you can also put them in the freezer or fridge. I keep all my Molen’s from Holland snuffs in the freezer, and also my super vintage old ones, like the Dean Swifts I got on eBay that were made in the 70s or 80s. Still all real good, even though I don’t do them all the time. And some will actually improve over time. For example, I read a lot about F&T Old Paris, so I bought a tin. Didn’t like it, let it sit in a cigar box for over a year! Now, it has matured and is really nice. And I read about that on this site from several older, more experienced dudes( even though I’m a lot older than most people here). So, you’re doing the right thing. Just get more snuff, and try lots of different ones. Almost all of them can be good sooner or later.

C

I agree with @mrmanos Keep them, at least for a good long while. I finally figured out how to enjoy F&T “mainline” snuffs: I cut them with a plain snuff to balance out the intense scents. HDT being the big exception. I don’t indulge in them often, but I’m glad I kept them and figured out how to make them more palatable to my nose. Having indulged in this hobby since the early seventies I can’t say I actually HATE a snuff. Depends on my mood, time of day, season, relative humidity, the alignment of Saturn and Uranus, atmospheric pressure and whether my Maine Coon is in the vicinity…you’ll find a snuff to fit your circumstances. For me it’s about the journey, not the destination.

B

@chefdaniel what do you cut your F&T blends with? I’ve got some Bordeaux that almost makes me sick after awhile.

S

@Barbertrey I cut bordeaux with viking dark or toque quit 4:1. Depending on whether I want a dark or light(er) snuff.

B

Thanks @SandwhichIsles , would the same work for a Viking Blonde?

C

@Barbertrey Viking Dark is very good, GH Kendal Brown works for some of them. I’m also working with Bernard Gekachelter Virginie with some very old Seville and that seems to be working, but it’s a little early to tell. It takes time to tame the F&T scent concentration; they all, with the exception of HDT, make me want to worship at the porcelain altar. Ratios vary, but @SandwhichIsles 4:1 is a great starting point.

S

@barbertrey viking blonde would work, as would any plain snuff. But since (to me) blonde dosen’t have the same depth of flavor as dark I would up the ratio a little, 5:1 maybe. Maybe higher. In the end just experiment and see what works for you.
