I didn’t like McC Rasberry at first, but the latest tin I got was excellent. It’s obviously a very different beast when compared to WoS, Dean Swift, or Ozona. The Ozona , although I like it, is a bit “heavy”, and tends to give me a headache. WoS Raspberry is divine. Dean Swift is very much in the WoS mould (unsurprisingly I guess), but it took a fortnight to get the scent of it out of the snuffbox I used. Even after washing the box loads, the scent was still able to contaminate Viking Brown I used after it. I suppose there are those for whom that would be a great combination, but for me it just wrecked the Viking Brown completely.
I just openend a tapbox of Samuel Gawith Raspberry and I really like it ! A very easy snuff with a nice sent of ripe Raspberry’s and you could even notice some strawberry in there. Thee sent didn’t stay long but that’s the only downside.
My DSW has had a thirty year love affair with WoS Raspberry. I can’t stand the stuff myself. The fruit is artificial and it is overpowered by menthol. This is what makes our hobby so much fun; to each his/her own.
For my money there’s no finer raspberry snuff than Toque. It seems, to my nose anyway, to capture the entire bush, not just the fruit. There’s a green/chlorophyll note (for lack of a better descriptor) in the snuff that enhances the natural berry sweetness.
WoS has a Mixed Berry snuff that I’m working my way through. It’s nice, but the fruit seems fake. The base flour is sound and shows some subtle toasted notes that help me overlook the laboratory scenting. I let a ten gram tin air out for a few days to let the “better living through chemistry” thing dissipate and allow the tobacco to take over.
A good decision methinks.
I love Toque Raspberry. My favorite all time snuff. I go through that more than anything else. I haven’t tried WoS and I don’t think I ever will. Stick with what works.
@corymillia I don’t think SIlver Dollar raspberry is mentholated. I have a tin here and have been using it the last few days with no hint of menthol. I did mix some of it with some poschls gletcherprise which was pretty good.
Im glad this thread has popped up. Ive been enjoying the silver dollar raspberry, but looking to get a better quality snuff that lasts a bit longer and a bit higher quality than silver dollar.
WoS the artificial raspberry stays the longest. I don’t use fruity snuff often. same tin for 7 years and it still holds its flavor
someone mentioned menthol in the McChrystal’s raspberry… umm… no menthol in it… havent tried wilson’s.
i sniff McChrystal’s reaspberry alot, sometimes with the McChrystal chocolate … good stuff… happ fri, all…
Toque Raspberry - it’s like the chefdaniel said. Otherwise I like McChrystal’s and SG. …if an SG fruit isn’t disgusting, I’m going to love it for its grind…
McChrystal’s raspberry is one of my regulars now.
McChrystals Raspberry: A rich raspberry scent with a hint of menthol WoS Raspberry: Face melting menthol with a hint of raspberry
I like SD Raspberry, but I’m still annoyed by the SD grind. Or maybe the issue is the tins they use? It’s simply too fine and dry, but the scent, while rather weak, is there. I’ll have to try McChrystals.
I wish poschls did more gawith scents. I think a raspberry one would be good. I’ll have to try some of the other raspberry ones in this thread. @tobe, you are not the only one. I was thinking about taking all my SD snuff out of those tins and hydrating them a bit more when I get the chance to see if it improves one.
@Psicko ozona raspberry is a nice one with menthol like the gawith apricot.
Paul Gotard Raspberry, light mint, good scent
Old Mill Melba’s Toast is a good one
Correction, OM Melba’s Toast is a great one
@Zanaspus, I stand corrected
WoS is my favorite raspberry. It’s artificial for sure, but it mixes well with the menthol, and I can take it all day long with no rebound clogging.
Nothing beats Toque ~ Raspberry maybe Toque ~ Raspberry Menthol on occasion!
Ozona Raspberry is in my opinion an outstanding snuff but only in small doses, as much as i like it i can’t take it all day.
