as im still new to snuff, i think ive noticed that with menthol snuff the flavour seems to not last as long as a finer flavoured unmentholed snuff, for instance, my first snuff was a tin of ozona raspberry, then i got hold of some mcchrystals mild lemon, although its taken a little while to get used to it, and at first i didnt like it compared to the ozona raspberry, i now sniff it more instead of trying to snort it like i did, i actually think the mcchrystals mild lemon flavour seems to last longer than the ozona and the wilsons of sharrow cherry menthol i bought.
I think you will discover a lot the more different snuffs you try. McChrystal’s Mild Lemon is one that is on my most wanted list, so you’re one up on me there, but if its anything like the other McChrystal’s I’ve tried, its really hard to compare it to Pöschl Ozona Raspberry. The Pöschl ones are very moist and a bit waxy and of course heavily mentholated and sweet. McChyrstal’s non menthol one I have tried have all been semi dry and have all had a very pungent and long lasting flavor. As you have discovered the strength of your sniff will have to change depending on the grind and moisture level of your snuff, so naturally you have to be more careful with the McChrystal’s. For myself, I haven’t really been able to enjoy the Ozona family very much as the menthol has been too distracting from the flavor. Also that waxy nature doesn’t agree with me, and most of it ends up dripping into my throat and gagging me. Some people love them though and apparantly get used to the menthol and enjoy the flavors beyond that, so keep experimenting!
I’ve only tried a few menthols, and so far Sparrow Cool is my favorite.
All of the mentholated snuffs I’ve tried ( Ozona Raspberry, Packards Club, Quit Apricot, and McC’s O&G) seem to have a nice lingering scent…more so than the non-menthols I have. The Ozona was the FIRST snuff I bought, and after using it for I few weeks I got others and so put the Rasberry aside for months. Now, Ive rediscovered it and find a small pinch in the morning does wonders for my disposition…it’s a ‘fun’ snuff to take with a nice tobacco base that’s good from the get-go.
Wilsons Raspberry doesn’t say menthol, but it is, and it is great.
