@ tom502: Jaap Bes of Molens de Kralingse also posts here from time to time. I’m sure he reads more than he posts. Jay Jay of Jaxons used to post when his snuff was new. Haven’t heard anything from him in awhile. I think the long established companies are too comfortable in their postions to care too much about us. Of course, they may monitor what we say without chiming in. Also as you know several vendors post here. Mr. Snuff, Nicotine Rush, Snuff Store all post fairly regularly, and they are good at taking hints from us. Mars and Rajek’s post once in a blue moon. No one else that I know of. @sandy: tap out tins are fine if you decant, this is true. But that’s only good if you only use a handful of snuffs. If you are using 20-40 different ones on a semi-regular basis, its just not practical to decant that much. Also wide flat tins are good for back of hand people too, since you can pinch, then sprinkle onto your hand.
I could, but that leaves a mess. Any back of hand method is a mess. With tap out tins, I don’t get the choice. I have to tap it out at some point (read: make a mess)
I’ll try it your way next time I have one out. The problem is, I usually end up with too much on my hand and then can’t get it back in the tin after I’ve taken what I want.
I didnt knew about farley !
I find the sniff from the back of the hand the best for me, I get a controlled sniff, can control the amount. I don’t know if this is the “anatomical snuffbox”, but when I place the tips of my index and thumbs together, and while keeping them like that, make a fist, I get an indent right below my index knuckle, and use that. Of course that’s not needed, a pinch or line anywhere works just as well, but I seem to use this indent nowadays.
Thanks for the advice Tom502. Never knew there was an indentation there. Seems to work very well.
I agree with Xander. We need to get the message to Wilsons. Does anyone have a relationship with them?
I thought the anatomical snuffbox was when you cupped your hands together and dumped a half pound drum of snuff in there…but that’s just me
If you look close, the tins of Hedges, Wilsons of Sharrow and Samuel Gawith you will find all the tins are the same. I think there is only one manufacturer of the tins.
yeah they are all the same.
Problem with the type of container SG use now is that you never know how much snuff is left in the tin. The Dholakia smash box is to small for my banana size fingers. Toque 10g tins are perfect. WoS and others using the useless tins, won’t change. Those tins must be dead cheap as against the aluminium tins. But, I agree, we all know by now that very few of us like the WoS type tins. We also know that WoS is not going to do anything about it, just as Poschl is not going to reinstate Packards in th UK. Those companies are big and for them it’s a case of take it or leave it, we have enough customers. And they are right in a way. I will keep on buying their snuff because I love it. I’m lucky in that I can buy Taxi cheap and their tins make very good snuff boxes. Just don’t know what to do with all the Taxi snuff as I hate to just discard it as I’ve often done before.
“If you look close, the tins of Hedges, Wilsons of Sharrow and Samuel Gawith you will find all the tins are the same. I think there is only one manufacturer of the tins.” That seems correct, but it’s hard to figure why the SG tins are notorious for rusting and the Wilsons never do…SG’s additives? Or are they stamped at the same factory from two different alloys?
Pieter you’ll have to stock up on more of Patrick’s boxes and stop buying Taxi, or they’ll think you’re actually buying it for the contents!
The only problem i have with wilsons tins ive got to blame roderick for. Since having the toque tins i now keep forgetting to tap the sides of the wilsons tins. This procedure i had down to a fine art with no spills whatsoever, now i spend half the time mopping up spilt snuff from my desk lol. But seriously the only bug bear i have with the wilsons tins is the labels, they rub off too easy especially when carring them in your pocket. Simon
As long as the warning rubs off Simon, it’s not all bad!
I mentioned in an earlier comment, if you ever have a problem with anything related to Wilsons or F&T, just e-mail them! They have handled a problem I had in the past and were very helpful, they even sent me a free tin of F&T HDT for my trouble!
They might even be more responsive to a petition signed by all of us.
Sandy,im not sure that wilsons can do a lot for me with regards to me forgetting to tap the sides of the tin now can they?.As for the labels rubbing off,i can live with that lol,im sure they must be well aware of it by now.The actual tin itself i have no problems at all, mine always seal tight and never have had any leaks in the pocket etc. Simon
Just to toss it out there for thought, the American Skoal type dip comes in plastic round containers with snap on lids that seal well. I use a couple of them to decant. Just make sure to air them out really good, especially if it had wintergreen in it. That stuff soaks into the plastic and just won’t go away.
yeah Spyro. Most snus tins are good too. I let them air out first. However, I’d just pitch the wintergreen ones. That smell lingers. I have a tin of General Wintergreen, I doubt if I’ll ever finish. It reminds me too much of Skoal.
