I HATE Wilson's Tins!

Lately I have really begun to loathe the tins that Wilson’s uses. The snuff always gets caked on the rim and makes it hard to open. Then when you do open, it’s all to one side, no matter how many times you tap it. Then you open the damn thing and it spills out everywhere. Why can’t Wilson’s take notes from Toque and their awesome tins?

100% agreed. I transfer the snuff to another container the moment I open the tin.

I am with you guys. The top has a tendency to be loose and not so airtight so the snuff can dry out or fill up your pocket. It always spills. I like the snap top smash boxes. There has to be something better they can do.

Agreed. At least they don’t use pour out boxes. I hate them even more.

The pour boxes are great for moist snuffs, but I don’t think that any Wilson’s would do well in them. A tub like the ones that Dholakia uses would be okay. Anything but the junk they are using now.

Add me to the list of tin haters. Wilson’s markets the F&T so it shouldn’t be a big deal to use something like that with a screw on lid. I’m sure its a money issue but Toque uses great screw on tins and they seem to be doing just fine. I never carry Wilson’s tins around or any of the other old fashioned similar type tins. Whenever I do open a tin of Wilson’s I always make sure to have a sheet of paper under it to scrape up the inevitable spill. I don’t even like the wooden Wilson’s snuff boxes either. They tend to spill and snuff always gets caught on the bottom of the slide out lid. I just pack everything into empty Packard’s containers to carry around.

I actually like the Wilson’s tins. They’re strong enough, they don’t rust, they seal good enough for coat pocket use if you rap on the cover when the tin is sitting on the table. I used to have the same problem cstokes mentioned but then someone (perhaps it was Snuff Head or ErmTony) said to wave the tin around in a circle and then rap on the top and you will find the snuff sitting nice and even and ready for pinching. Toque tins are great for travel, but I prefer Wilson’s tins for desktop use. Of course the F&T tins are beautiful but they’re not so practical. After a bit of use you can’t pinch from them. If you decant into snuffboxes then F&T tins are great because they keep snuff fresh almost forever.

The Wilsons tins sit nicely in you pocket and don’t spill or rust and have nice curved edges. A threaded tin would be even better with a plastic diaphragm on the top like Toque, but then Wilsons snuff is cheaper (1.20 pounds post free of charge from mill for 10g, as opposed to 1.45 pounds from Toque), so you pay for what you get. I can’t complain about Wilsons snuff though - it is consistently very good despite the tin (except Best SP which I have an aversion to).

I agree about the tins, but I don’t hate them terribly. I do have to open them on a piece of paper. And the snuff does often get around the edges. But I do like the size of them, and I haven’t had any come open in my pocket. I brought some Wilsons Raspberry with me to work today, and this is one of my favorite snuffs. I hated their Kendal Brown though, it was like sand and some bad perfume. Tom502

I like the size of the small tins, purely for carrying around. they can be tricky to open without spillage - I’ll try ermtony’s tip next time.

The spilling issue is bugging me out as well , but they’d be nice and small to carry around (if they didn’t spill so much  ).

Once you get the hang of it you don’t lose anything when you open a tin.

What’s happened to my avatar? Can anyone see it?

Yep , i can see it just fine.

It was there until I refreshed the page. Looks like the hosting server is down.

I must admit, I don’t think much of the Wilsons tins either, I’ve lost count of how many times I spill it taking the top off

Now its back - I can see it

Thanks guys. Must be temporary. But why me LOL “Of all the avatars in all the websites in the world, they happened to delete mine” – The Maltese Snuffer
