You do know there are two versions of Crumbs Of Comfort, right? My apologies if you already know this but the Extra CoC is the same spearmint flavor just with more menthol. A lot of people don’t notice that the first time they order it. Extra CoC is one of my favorites, tho it can deliver quite a burn at times.
Crumbs of Comfort is spearmint, not wintergreen. The closest snuff to wintergreen is Checkerbery from Swisher. Not great, but ok. Regular CoC has no menthol, only Extra CoC has it. Its not straight spearmint though, it has other herbs maybe a touch of wintergreen. For straigt spearmint from Wilsons try Country Mint. Also, Gawith Hoggarth Sea Breezes has a portion of wintergreen to it, but it has other aromatic herbs such as rosemary and thyme. Quite different, but good.
The spearmint is pretty strong in the regular. It could even be mistaken for menthol at first. I’ve heard some claims that Golden Glow contained wintergreen but my experience with it was otherwise. Also, any used, plastic dip can that contained wintergreen will be sufficient to make your own wintergreen snuff. Just add any plain snuff and let it sit in the freshly emptied can with the lid on it for a week or so. I personally don’t care for wintergreen but find spearmint (and Toque Peppermint) to be more to my liking.
From what I’ve read in pipe tobacco making, using a bit of menthol oil to spark up a mint flavor is pretty common.
@Xander, You are right, spearmint. I have a lot of senior moments like that lately. I use CofC and when I do I know it is spearmint, but I get confused sometimes. When you get to be seventy, things slip.
Thanks spyro I didn’t know that. Lucky for me I found a tobacco shop that carries snuff, the conwood scotches and a few others mchrystals was listed on their web site but in the picture I saw all sorts of snuff. I am going to go there tomorrow and pick up a few. For the snus users I have a question, I tried a few ofthe ettan portions and the flavor is nice but it didn’t really feel like much nicotine. This place tomorrow sells General loose and I thought I would give that a try that’s the only snus other than ettan I can find locally, it’s 55 dollars for10 or 6 for one. I have heard loose may be more liked by former dip users. I asked about the stark variety but I guess it’s not legal within the U.S. I don’t want to place an online order yet though
Stark snus is certainly not illegal in the U.S., whoever told you that is full of it. However, it is true that the General stark varieties are not distributed in the U.S. That, however, is a marketing decision rather than a legal issue.
Oh guess I was mislead
Los snus is probably a good choice if you find the nicotine in portions to be inadequate. There is not a lot of snus in your standard 8mg portion, but with los you can use as much as you can fit in your lip. Thus, you can get a fair amount of nicotine, if that is your concern. Some find that los has better flavor. While I tend to prefer the convenience of portion snus, you should definitely try the los to see if it works for you. I do like Ettan, but it is rather subtle, Try the General Los, you might like it!
Thanks for the suggestion!
Order some odens extreme strong portion. Ordered mine from getsnus.com, in the mailbox in 3 days. If this doesnt give you a nic fix, nothing will…
My understanding … and i will verify in a few days … is that Swedish Match’s Lab06 kicks much stronger in nicotine over Extreme … which I have had and really don’t care for … but the nicotine doesn’t feel 22mg strong to me in the Extreme. Just my opinion.
sorry, missed the point of this thread in my previous post … first sly3904 … where are you? If you are lucky enough to be able to buy Ettan along with your General, and are stateside, you must reside in Pittsburgh, Portland or Boise, yes? And, fwiw, a “nicotine kick” builds with snus, much like snuff. Many do not feel a kick … while some do … what many feel is relief from their nicotine craving, as it is released slowly … so, given that you can get one of the best locally in Ettan … and should be able to get loose version of it too … I’d go with it. To gain a kick, pop in an Ettan OP or prilla and then snuff up some Scotch, Toast or Cheetah. That’ll get you right. I should note, I am very jealous of anyone that can walk into their gas station or local tobacco shop and grab some Ettan … by far my favorite snus. Hopefully the test markets in the US pan out and convince SwM to expand Ettan to all states. Will never have to order online again …
If you want a good nic hit try 36mg e-liquid in an e-cig, I think you can also get 48mg and 54mg, those are for mixing though, you must be a real nic fiend to vape them straight. 36 is just right, a nice buzz but not nauseating. Stefan
Yes you are right snuffbrant I do reside in Beaverton which is just a few miles outside of Portland. I visited 82nd pipe and tobacco today and picked up a can of general loose and a couple snuffs (wilsons tom buck and American snuff company honest scotch. I just tried the scotch and it packs quite a kick even a small pinch. Smokey in flavor as im sure most of you know, it kind of reminds me of a spicy copenhagen flavor. Not bad, definitley not what I am used to snuffing so far. I will try the Wilsons in a bit. Walrus1985 I have used ecigs in the past but didnt have much luck with them. THe nic is good but i thought they were kind of a hassle and I didn’t really care for the liquid. I used a smoke 51 and I can’t remember the name of the other one. It was black with a refillable atomizer and a manual push button. Never got as high up as 36 mg though. I think the strongest I used was 24 mg marlboro juice. I am going to try to learn how to form a pris later and give the los a try. tonight. Thanks all to your suggestions and advice.
Well an update on the pris making, I think Im going to visit my plaid pantry where they sell prismasters along with ettan. I find i am wasting more loose than i can get into the pris.
Don’t worry about forming the perfect prilla. Try the “hillbilly” technique: grab a pinch and just shove it in your upper lip. Works fine, and I find that it is much more flavorful than a tightly compressed prilla.
I tried the prismaster. The guy working gave it to me for free. I made a small pris with it. Small at least compared to what I’ve seen on YouTube. I’ve had it in my upper lip for almost an hour and it seems to be working. Also had a couple pinches of snuff, Tom buck and the honest. The wilsons is quite good, don’t know If the scotch could be a regular I may have that tin forever. The general is good with the citrus but when I make another snus purchase I would have to try the loose ettan.
I handbake my loose snus, sly … you get adept at it the more you practice. Ettan hand bakes very well … and you won’t be disappointed in Ettan Loose … a giant size prilla will give you a nice nic dose and will last an hour or so if packed tight enough not to slide … and yep, i am jealous, just hope Ettan Test trial goes really well. I cannot wait to walk in a grab some from a local gas station here in Ohio. Cheers!
@sly3904: Honest if fairly mild for a Scotch, with a good amount of smoke flavour. Brutons is the highest in nicotine, second is Red Seal but it is a sweet snuff, and tied for third are Navy Plain and Railroad Mills Plain. Those sweet snuffs like Red Seal do havoc on my sinuses.
