Hello everyone

Hello, I’m quite new to this whole world of snuff. I decided to try some snuff, and in learning about it on the web, I came across this forum. I wanted to try snuff because I used to smoke pipes (still do occasionally), but it’s just too difficult to always go outside to smoke. So I took up snus–but missed all the various flavors of tobacco that one can find in the pipe world. Snuff seems to have that, so I thought I’d give it a try. I don’t have the hang of snuff yet, now 2 days into trying it. Every time a take some, my eyes start watering and my nose running. It doesn’t make me sneeze, but I think that I’m sniffing it wrong. I assume that practice will improve my technique. I currently have Toque Coke and Ozone President. I like the Ozone, but the Coke doesn’t seem to have much flavor–perhaps a faint hint of cola for about 10 seconds. Maybe it will have more flavor when my technique improves? Anyway, thanks for making so much information about snuff available on your forum.

Go outside when snuffing toque to get the scent out.

Ill try the going outside thing, I noticed most of my Toques were on the mild side. However I love the tobacco base. Every flavor reacts a little different for me. Some weeks I come back to something and notice a subtle difference I didn’t notice the first time. Not really too into menthol anything, ill take a snort or two every day of some stok but it just doesn’t feel very enjoyable because its always cold where I live. That being said I can only recommend something a little more moist and smoother, I LOVE all Samual Gawith snuffs for this reason. The Vanilla, Cola, and Cherry are my favorites. They go up the nose, give you a nice bit of nicotine and is very high quality tobacco. The dryness of Toque give it a little more burn in my opinion. Schmalzlers are nice but a little coarse for when I started snuffing, and the latika I have been snuffing is too smooth and very pleasant but possibly too coarse for some people. Plus, your nose will become more accustom as time goes on to different types. So you may find the toque much milder after trying some Indian snuffs.

@coreymillia‌ Always cold? Where do you live, north pole? south pole?

@Rogue Well no, but the elevation is 10,000 feet here. It gets into the high 70’s in the summer in the daytime. Usually it starts snowing about now and last till around May. So 9 months out of the year there can be a blizzard. I love going out in the terrible weather for a few hours to ride some powder in the woods. I try not to go out if its below 10F anymore, but other than that were out there like a bunch of damn idiots. No desire for menthol, Im going to take some Bohica with me this year.

@coreymillia‌ ah, Norway here, near a mountain, lake and the woods. -40 in the winter, can get as high as 40 in the summer, 45 this summer. I like menthol regardless of temp, I just find it nice… might have something to do with me munching fisherman’s friend all my life. OH THE MENTHOL

Here’s what helped me with technique for what it’s worth as I’m new to snuff too. I was breathing in way too hard and it was going down my throat and up high in my sinuses and into my lungs. My nose burned so much I couldn’t taste any flavor. A guy by the name of Snuffbeginnings on YouTube shows how take a pinch between the index finger and thumb and to press the snuff down onto the thumb so it’s flattened out like a pancake or whatever (shape doesn’t matter). Now bring it up to the nose and slide the thumb back when up to the nose and breath in with both nostrils. The combination of packing the Snuff down and breathing in with both nostrils open keeps it from going where it’s not supposed to. When I tried doing it like that it was night and day for me. The watering eyes and burning nose went away completely. Doing it like that a few times, and I was able to bypass pressing it down onto my thumb and just gently breath in with both nostrils open since I now had a better idea of how hard I needed to breath in. I hope this helps and I’m not being redundant but your post sure reminded me of my attempts until I found that YouTube video. Let me know if you want the link to it and I’ll look for it tomorrow. I do know it’s by, “Snuffbeginnings” and it’s one of his “how to” for beginner snuff users if you want to look for it.

@rouge -40!.. you got me beat the lowest I have seen it it only gets to about -30 here. Yeah, after I made the comment I thought about all the cold places people are snuffing. It is purely matter of taste, considering all the minty holiday candy, People must feel differently than I do. @Valiant‌ I moved on to pinching, I think what really helps is that you are blocking the airway enough to keep it from going too far. It always happens if I use a spoon and don’t put my finger to the side of it while snorting. Plus if you hold the pinch for a few seconds it is said to release the aroma of the snuff.

I used to choke on wos, my technique never changed, but one day I could just take em without much difficulty. I think your nose can just get used to it by itself.

True, @Rogue, Though I’m impatient! I wanted to be able to taste the flavor right away 'cause the scent was so freaking amazing!

@Coreymillia, That makes perfect sense. Now I want to try the pinch method!

@Valiant same, I take snuff even if it hits my throat, sooner or later it ends up in the right spot.

Welcome aboard snus…

Welcome @snusandsnuff‌, I’m about 2 months into my snuff journey and enjoying it alot. Best advice I found was to sniff gently like smelling a flower, or like a rabbit (short easy sniff). Take your pinch and hold it up against the nose and take half, then roll the thumb back to expose whats left and go to other nostril. If you dont use a neti pot I would recommend it to clear out all the snuff not removed from blowing at the end of the day. Enjoy!

Hi @burley, I too use a Neti pot and can’t imagine being without it! Though I think e-cigs dries out my nose too 'cause it sure dries out my mouth. I’m so glad I found this forum as I’m new to snuff also and this is a gold mine and everyone is so nice and helpful. Plus there’s no drama. Anyway, I hadn’t even tried my first snuff when I wrote my first post here, but I guess it’s been about one month now? Time flies by way too quick!
