Abraxas

I know I mentioned the somewhat mysterious rumblings of a new snuff in the making a while back. Well, I now have definite word that a new ultra-premium snuff is about to become available. It is not a contract snuff and has previously only been made in tiny batches on a private basis similar to Spanish Jewel. I finally tracked down the miller and he has agreed for a small batch to be made available to me/us. I cannot tell you any more because the person behind it wants to stay anonymous, and indeed has only agreed to sell me some on condition that I respect is wishes. Needless to say, I shall. I have not actually sampled any yet, so to some extent withhold judgement. But the descriptions given, the obvious passion, and the depth of knowledge of all things snuff lead me to believe we will not be disappointed. Of course I suppose I should qualify that with many of us will not be disappointed, with snuff being as it is subject to such wide variance of personal taste. However I believe that all passionate snuffers can recognize a fine snuff when they sniff it regardless of personal preference, so at a minimum we can judge it from that perspective. I must say I am excited to get my hands on this. I will post my taste review as soon as I do. Dave

Oooooh this is exciting!

Are you going to tell us the flavors? Or price, for that matter… If someone calls their snuff “ultra-premium” I’m not too excited to see the price tag.

Haha make some reviews for mrsnuff and you can bring the price down!

Oh dear, I must have TAD. I am also exited.

@Brandasaur wait… are you saying you can get a discount if they use your reviews? mine is up for Toque Raspberry…

I wrote a review for the ganesh 701 on the forum but it’s the first one i have ever wrote in my life so i dont think it’s up for the prize. lol

How do you get credit for your reviews? Do they automatically give you points? If so, I’ll sit down and do reviews for HOURS tonight

I believe Dave gives you points for each review you do. But that’d be something you’d have to ask him yourself, I’m not 100% on that one. But, on this mystery snuff… Sounds very very exciting  . Dave, you must let us know what you think when you try it!

You do get points for every review but it is not automatic. We review the reviews before they get posted. This is not to stop negative reviews (feel free to state your own opinion), but rather to make sure the reviews are useful to others. If you simply post “This snuff is great”, or “I don’t like this snuff” then you won’t get any points, and we’ll delete them. There are guidelines on the site here: http://mrsnuff.com/store/reviews.php FAQ says: Your Review must meet all of the following conditions: Your Reviews must be original. Reviews must be focused and concise on the product under review. Reviews should not duplicate content already published. Be truthful and objective. Reviews should not include posts that have spam, commercial or advertising content or links. Reviews should not abuse, harass, or threaten another’s personal safety . Reviews are much appreciated. thanks Dave

Just wrote a crapload of reviews for ya… being a poor college student blows when you have a nicotine addiction! :stuck_out_tongue:

@PikeMopers Indeed it does. I think if I reviewed every snuff I have, I’d be able to hit a nice $32.50 worth of points. I’ll take my time though, and I just do the odd one here and there.

Just got about $4 of reviews confirmed… what a lovely thing for Mr. Snuff to do! I thought he was already doing us enough favors with the selection and prices lol

Okay, finally I have a short review of the mythical Abraxus to share with you. To say I am excited about this is a bit of an understatement. I would describe it as a rich medium to coarse snuff with deep flavours of expensive liquors and dark roast prime arabica coffee (think 100% Blue Mountain or Kona). It has a velvety texture and the complexity of the best of Fribourg and Treyer snuffs. It hits on several levels with delicious, lingering after-glow. Now to get my paws on more than just a sample. My excitement and also my concern is the fact it is small batch snuff which will more or less be made to order. The advantage is that every batch will inevitably be slightly different, but that is also the disadvantage. I suppose as long as the basic grind, taste, redolence and bouquets hover around the same high level then then there won’t be much to gripe about. I will of course announce when we finally get it on the shelves. Dave

I still think its jaxons

Abraxons maybe? LOL. I am pretty sure not since Jaxons is not small batch, hand-crafted. It is private label from one of the big boys, I believe.

I hesitate to sound like a purist, but is it Abraxus or Abraxas? The latter spelling is used as the title of Santana’s second album, referencing the Hermann Hesse novel “Demian.” Abraxas was also the name of an angel/spirit/deity in some Gnostic sects. [Please pardon my relentless obsession with trivia; it’s incurable, I’m told.]

I think you are quite correct. My typo most likely. I will know for sure when I see a labelled container I suppose.

The album and the gnostic word are both spelled as ‘Abraxas’ according to wikipedia @PipenSnusnSnuff

Need to bump this up. Being a well connected or incredibly lucky SOB I happened to find a pre-sale sample of this in my mailbox a few days ago. I am really bad at picking apart snuffs, I know what I like, but it’s impossible for me to know the different flavors I smell. here is what I can tell you for sure; This snuff is a course grind, somewhere between a Schmalzler and Taxi. The moisture is higher than most English snuffs, but not damp. The tin aroma is wonderful. My wife hates to smell every one of my snuffs, except WOS Apricot. She won’t even let me pass a tin past her nose. This one she stuck her nose right in the tin. She won’t go as far as actually using the product, but she likes to smell it. I find a cognac scent on the surface, but it’s much more complex than any snuff I’ve ever tried. At times I get fermented fruit, others plain tobacco. It’s almost as if the flavors take turns developing while in the nose. I hope this sells well enough for the maker to keep making it, I would hate to be without it. Dave mentioned the price would not be cheap, but if you can afford it this is worth the money. Remember you are paying for an individual to do all the work based on years of experience. There are a few parallels between this and Spanish Jewel. One man making snuff for himself gets convinced to sell some to friends and strangers. I believe Abraxas will attain the same legendary status in short order. How hard will you be kicking yourself if you miss out on being part of this legend? No, the nicotine level isn’t special, it’s pretty good, but falls well within the normal range. Abraxas is a great snuff, made by hand using high quality ingredients. The maker obviously enjoys the craft.
