I have been using a sample bottle of the new Abraxas Club exclusively since yesterday morning and the bottle will doubtless be empty before the weekend.
Initially, the moist course tobacco has a robust sweet and dark character of, manure, marzipan, chocolate and plum brandy. After letting the snuff air in a box for a couple of hours, the dark notes soften, to reveal the bright scent of a box of ripe honey mangoes.
I have not tried the other Abraxas variant, so cannot compare but this is going down a treat.

A

Thanks for your comments on the snuff Khalid:)

T

Thanks @Snuffster for the sample I am really enjoying it. It kind of reminds me of Doppelaroma but more chocolatey. A bit like hotel chocolat Ghana chocolate Orange.

E

I just got my sample of Abraxas today!
(Though I’m not sure what “Club” means, what I have here is impressive to say the least.)
First off, the sample bottle is packed so tight that I’m pretty sure that once I get it dug out and ‘fluffed’ up, I’m going to need a container twice as large to hold it.
The man sure isn’t skimpy where he sends a ‘sample’!

Disclaimer: I truly wish that I had more discerning nose to describe the different scents I’m experiencing, but I’m afraid that too many years of cigarettes and curry have ruined me as a professional taster.

Anyway, the scent coming off the top of the jar is a freshness I’ve always associated with the country: clean air full of life and just a hint of barnyard.
In the nose there’s a fruitiness that I can’t quite nail down. Almost like a fresh Honeydew melon? And maybe a hint of blackberry?
Again, I can’t say for certain. Just a very uplifting odor - not ‘heavy’ in the least.

Thanks, Snuffster: This is something truly special, and it was well worth the wait.

T

I’ll have to be a bit quicker when the next batch hits the shelves…

H

Me too

J

How does one get hold of a sample of this glorious followup?

B

@Jinder ever play Skyrim or Oblivion. Well the first step is contacting the Dark Brotherhood (on the off chance anyone believes me on this one, don’t I’am not telling the truth.)

A

I sent samples out to everyone who asked for one just before Christmas. Thats it for now.

A

The ‘club’ thing, it kind of developed in my mind as I had been thinking of a Snuffhouse SP - SHSP -  and that turned into snuffhouse club, then just Abraxas Club. It veered away from being an SP because I wanted to experiment with another Abraxas type I had been mulling over for a long while in my snuff-brain and I started to construct it in my head. Then I got some ingredients and kind of bench tested it and it led to this. I have a batch waiting to sell if it seems like folks like it. It’s dedicated to Snuffhouse by the way.

J

@bob you have to get the white phial first, fix it, and then choose to have it filled with abraxas club.

Also to everyone that have abraxas club…  you get a fist shake.

B

Already got the White Phial.

T

Can’t wait to try it. It should be here any day now this week. I like a lot of Wilson’s and f&t (I haven’t tried any I didn’t like yet) and I know snuffster’s collection includes many of these made before I was born. Not only can he make one hell of a blend, his influences include many of my favorites. Even the abraxas 2.0 (at least the properly milled parts that aren’t stalk) is like Jimi Hendrix to Wilson’s Robert Johnston. Same kind of product, both classic, but with a whole nother dimension to it.

T

@snuffster the way you tackled complaints head on from the get go, I think you already are.

D

I just got my jar in the mail!  I’ll let it ride around in my nose for a couple days before I post a review.  Thanks for the awesomeness!

A

Remind me, are you in the States?

D

Yup!  Middle of nowhere in the Northwest to be exact.

V

Whats the deal with this Abraxas, is it new?

J

Is it new and will it be available on mrsnuff??

V

it is available at mr. snuff

J

I just got a sample today. The scenting is awesome. I wonder if there might be a little ambergris in there.

B

I happily got mine today also. Only had two pinches so have not formed any kind of opinion yet, beyond it is not boring.

J

@Vito445 All I see is “on order” on mr. snuff.  Nothing about Abraxas Club though.

S

Abraxas Club has not been released yet. It is a new snuff that is in the pre-release phase. My understanding of it…

P

@Snuffster I got mine too. Thank you for this nice sample. The snuff is delicious with it´s complex taste and and small. Very good.

T

Hmm - this sounds really good - will have to look out on Mr Snuff’s site for the next batch!

S

Snuffster kindly sent me some Abraxas 2 to sample. This is slightly darker in colour and unlike
the Abraxas 1 was mainly fine, with a few lumps but this is an even coarse base. On opening the plastic jar and taking a sniff
I get an aroma of blancmange.

In the
nose I get chocolate, orange and some sherry with a good taste of strong
tobacco.

This is a very good snuff and
well done Nigel.

F

I received my sample yesterday and it hasn’t been beyond arms reach since then. Wonderful scent indeed and thank you very kindly, snuffster. Will be ordering some asap.

T

I’m with you there! @greengrass

A

Make sure you decant the samples to a snuff box as you won’t get the aroma from these narrow neck plastic jars. I recommend that you loosen the amount required and put into a pocket snuffbox and carry it about or leave it somewhere warmish for a couple of hours. I find silver snuff boxes work best, or at least metal, as they get the ideal temperature for using snuff, which I personally find is just a touch below normal body temperature. When this is released it will be back in the original glass jars btw.

A

Very true.

V

Did @Snuffster make this snuff? If so I can’t believe how poorly I was on the wrong page here

V

XD

K

Hopefully I will get my sample tomorrow

N

Personally I prefer the original glass jars. They look better, seal better and are much easier to pinch from and lets face it if your going to pay that much for a fancy snuff it best come in a fancy glass jar, not some shitty little plastic one.

A

I promise I will remember that remark.

B

Received my sample today, thanks Snuffster!  I will post my impressions of it next week after I spend a bit of time with it.

W

You know snuffster, I took the liberty of reducing a bit of the second batch I bought from Dave, the original Abraxas, and I can highly recommend a minute with the mortar and pestle! I really like the nose feel afterwards.

A

Thank you so much for your comments.

K

Finally got my sample today. Yeah!

Will let it decant a bit before reporting. So far what I can say is it’s a pretty dark, coarse snuff with high humidity content and it has a lot of ammonia to air out.

K

At first I was quite interrogative. The mixture had virtually no smell except from the strong ammonia. After I decanted it a bit (which include an hour or two to open air) the ammonia started to vanish and it began to develop a subtle and intriguing aroma that forces you to stop and “listen” to your nose.

It’s warm and comforting. It’s leathery. Almost smells like Pleurotes or similar comestible mushrooms. There is also a hint of fruit. I am thinking of cantaloup… something with a slight acidic note. Then there is cocoa, almond and honey that follows and linger, but very smoothly.

This snuff must be taken in large dose to set up the smell and establish the flavour fully. To my taste the grind could be a little finer. I expect this snuff to have a great aging potential and to be getting better and better with time. Abraxas Club is without a doubt, a very interesting product.

Congrats to Snuffster and thanks again for that opportunity!

A

Thanks!

K

My daughter (she is 7) likes to smell my tins once in a while. You know what was her impression of the Abraxas Club? “Hmmm this one smells like a strawberry Whippet” !!

I thought this was pretty funny and I had to share!

M

Haven’t had a chance to try yet, when will be the next time for sample or sale? I want to do a Mr. Snuff order soon anyways…

A

She has good taste…

A

although I am afraid there is no strawberry in it:)

A

Club should go on sale in the next couple of weeks.

K

My sample abraxas just arrived yesterday! And today I’m snuffing it!

After decanting from the very compacted tube to a small tin, it took a shower, cleaned my nose and dived in a pinch.

Flavorful! Long lasting sweet earthiness and fruity yet strong tobacco reminiscent of a good fermentation. Remids me very much of the “Arapiraca” twist tobaccos grown in Brazil. The nic hit is fast and strong and makes my nose build moisture unlike any other snuff.

My first impression is that this is indeed a very distinct snuff. Good job!

A

Thanks for your feedback.

B

I love this snuff. I would review it but I’ve been kind of sick and my nose isn’t in top reviewing shape. Though it’s been helping me get well to use this snuff.

M

Good! Now I’ve lost track, is this to be the SP batch, or the other?

A

No. That will be later in the year, touch wood.

M

Cool! I look forward to it!

S

the boys from Snuff Taker’s Ephemeris sent me some to sample … so far so good … delicious and the grind is better, to me, than Abx first gen … although the richness of Abx Gen 1 will be tough to top, I am sure.  Will report back later on it.

B

complex snuff. Not sure what’s up with the fruitiness which reminds me of schmalazler fruitiness in that it’s kind of inexplicable and seems like a hybrid fruit. Seems citrusy and melony. I have an unconfirmed guess. Which is that it’s a single fruit scent that’s been hit by things like honey maybe some port or sherry. There is a chocolatiness which which reminds me specficaly of certain cigars I used to smoke. It’s a chocolate I’am sure isn’t chocolate but tobacco. Sometimes tobacco or coffee will have a choclate scent or taste that is not chocolate just really not discribable any other way. (I hope that makes sense). I’am sure at most two fruit scents are used quite possibly though not definatly fermented in some way or other (maybe a fruit wine or some such thing or mixed with the snuff and fermented. Either way this is a great snuff and to me practicaly unsniffable but extremely stuffable and wonderfull.

A

There are a lot of flavours being noticed - which is what I intend when I make a snuff - and its very interesting (obviously knowing whats in it) to read because most of the things people are pointing out are not actually in the snuff, but that really is the knack of it. To suggest without actually using the ingredient. There is a really distinct flavour of chocolate orange to me which I think a couple of other people have noticed. I find it much more satisfying and challenging to let the tobacco be choclatey without putting cocoa in the snuff.

B

that’s obvious

D

I agree that it reminds me a bit of a schmalzer.  The grind is very coarse and it is ultra moist.  I also get a hit of fruit and chocolate, but there is something else in there.  For one, the tobacco base is excellent.  To my nose it has a hit of something like a nice, aged pipe tobacco.  Almost like a really dark MacBaren blend without the cavendish scent.  I pulled a bit of it back into my throat on purpose, and it doesn’t seem to have any unpleasant drip like i tend to get with a schmalzer either.  This also makes me thing a lot of the scent present has to do with the aging rather than gobs of scents jammed into it.  I’m not picking up the citrus like others are, more like something very faint but tropical.

It’s an incredibly complex and enjoyable snuff.  It makes me feel honored that I was part of the first group to try it.

B

OK, after letting my sample air a bit and giving it a few days of trial, I get earthy tobacco scents almost grassy with plum liquor type scent up front that fades to a date-like aroma maybe with a slight touch of mandarin.  Course grind reminiscent of a DeKralingse Macouba or Prins Regent.  It has the impression that the liquor was applied directly to the tobacco rather than air infused.  Scent lasts a decent while.  Overall a nicely made snuff, though a bit sneezy to me.   Definitely worth a try.

Thanks again Snuffster,

T

Moist and gros grained, like an earthy cross between an F&T (like Old Paris or Santo Domingo) and a schmaltzler, with a rich alcoholic fruitcake aroma and robust tobacco base.

Definitely a luxury snuffing experience and much recommended.

B

@ toffeenose…Nice to see you around. I missed you, even if some of these heathens didn’t.
Your review says almost exactly my thoughts on Abraxas Club in fewer words than I would have used.

I really like the progression of scents. The fruity alcohol up front, switching to a slight citrus, then the tobacco comes in. It does have a slight background of barnyard…more of a musty hay smell than a manure scent.
My only complaint is the grind and moisture combine to make it impossible to keep a good sized pinch in my nose. I think I lose more than I keep. Still a worthwhile addition to my humble stash of keepers.

T

@bigmick: Aw, thanks, mate - missed you too! I hope to be around a lot more in the future.

I concur with your comment about keeping it in the nose, but find that stuffing it in works a treat.

Oh dear, one for the out of context thread there…
