A request for some suggestions -SG snuffs

I can only guess that some of the darker ones are using some stoving process which may lower the nic levels. At least that seems to be the case with black cavendish pipe tobacco. I wonder if anyone has had enough of these to know about their relative strengths.

@Mr_O Good question! It is mostly the PH that determines the availability of nicotine from individual varietals. I wonder if SG has done tests to standardized the PH levels in their snuffs.

Thank’s! So it’s to factor the nic level and the PH together then? I just don’t have enough experience with the SG’s, I know some dark tobaccos are still very strong (thinking of SG 1792) but maybe some of the lighter leaf is more potent than some more processed dark leaf. I mean black cav is treated with heat and pressure, I hear. But what about the tobacco in Peppermint Dark, for instance?

I do believe the effects of heat on nicotine is negligible. It is generally the sugars in tobacco that make them more or less acidic. Heat converts the starches to sugars as in a Cavindish. In snuff making it is common to add alkalizers to raise PH levels. My question is if snuff tobaccos with more acidity are treated with higher amounts of alkalizers. Regardless, the differences in strength should hardly be noticeable. On this matter, a finer grind would provide a more noticeable nicotine uptake than relative PH levels would.

That dark is cause by the fermentation and most of the darks are from the same base tobacco, Then scented

Thank’s for the input guys!
