I was pretty fond of the Fubar non menthol Jungle jobby , but it didn’t get a lot of attention . It didn’t help that it was often out of stock and it’s cousin was a total menthol bomb .
My fear is that the baby is getting thrown out with the bathwater in regards to Fubar.
Across the range there are definitely a few keepers. But with Dholakia giving up, they are all going to die.
We have a few Fubars made by Lachhman Dass, and so they could take over the production of the best of the bunch formerly made by Dholakia.
But is it worth the effort?
I dunno . I’ve bought a bit of many Mr Snuff offbrands over the years …usually as impulse buys . With Fubar I liked the non menthol mango and the white options . A good variety of strong whites available was always a good thing a few years back , but your current sales might suggest that bubble has burst ? I know I’ve got 350gs of assorted whites on hand and no plans to go on a White Elephant safari anytime soon .
The snuff landscape has changed quite a bit since Fubar came . There was a tendency towards extremes in Fubar I found a bit offputting . Your bro was never too sentimental about keeping his offbrands going . She, Wow! , Blast , Temptation , Rock-it , that Jewish one whose name escapes me . You could adopt any of them again or try something new
Even before Dholakia bowed out , we’ve seen a contraction in options of real basic flavours . Very few colas , chocolates , cakes , booze, christmasy stuff, nonmenthol fruits …These are the sort of impulse buys that would tempt me at the checkout these days . Kinder Bueno , Biscoff ,stollen , cappuncino … Yum !
A few 100g bags en route. Very excited!

Just placed my first couple of orders in about three or four years. I’d been merrily using my doomsday stash, and decided I needed an influx of fresh stuff. Particularly Toques in small tins, as I carry them when out and about, so I don’t risk losing a snuffbox. I also wanted some fresher coarse snuff from Wilson/F&T for evenings at home.

So I listened to you, @Jonny and I bought a couple SWS to try and I must say I’m bloody loving these. I just love good plain tobacco snuffs no nonsense just dame good tobacco, blended well with a outstanding grind. Nice and Dry this stuff just jumps right on in up there. Nose Nectar, I can’t see any of these going mouldy myself to dry. I got to try others now Iv seen the light so to speak. Can’t wait to see what happens price wise with these. I can see me getting more of these definitely and others to try now.
Give SWS an high 5 from me, His 115 Approval Rating (5/5) Tip Top. I appreciate his work and you for stocking it. Should have tried it ages ago that’s listening to plums lol, nm I know now first hand now that these are true nose pleasers.
They may have beaten you to the price change, But it looks cheaper here plus you have a bigger range of products for me to pick over. Anyway loving all the changes and improvements. Keep pushing, Keep growing.
Just to give you a heads-up, unlike these three snuffs, and Lundy Foot, some others in the SWS range originally come pretty moist and aren’t mouldproof.
Thanks for the heads up. If its that moist I will intentionally dry it, I’d prefer not to but if I feel I have to so it lasts I will. I don’t mind dry stuff. I just don’t want something else to worry about lol
I don’t suppose any organic material is entirely mould proof, but I wonder if SWS is more susceptible than most?
That is certainly the rumour I see repeated. Do you know if there is any truth in it?
The SWS descriptions on your website suggest refrigeration. I thought that advice came from Sir Johnny as it’s not something generally recommended for snuff storage.
Yes it does if you look on the back label of SWS snuffs it states keep refrigerated once opened.

Finally found a bulk SP ! I’ve been shelling tins like peas for months .
Bloody 5-grammer… Why?
Yes, due to their higher water activity and lack of salts some SWS snuffs - the moister and cased ones - are more susceptible to mould than anything factory-made.
Not a rumour, there were quite a few reports about mouldy SWS, some of them were photodocumented (ask Dave or older staff members, or @Johnny himself). Afaik, in most (if not all) cases buyers were reimbursed.
I’m yet to stumble upon mouldy tin of factory-made snuff. I don’t remember any reports on such, whatsoever (so far all the suspects turned out to be crystals of salts (in some particular cases - oxides and hydroxides) and menthol).
The short answer is they don’t make a 10 grammer and I don’t fancy 20 .
The long answer is a bit more nuanced . You may have noticed from my posts that I’ve been revisiting all the old British snuffs . Had a lot of fun doing it too . Emptied a bunch of tins . Now I’m coming to the end and there’s only a handful left …and Friburg and Treyer .
There;s 7-8 candidates at F’n’T . Can pretty much guarantee that I’m not gonna like 6 of them . The thought of shelling out big money on 20g tins I likely won’t use , sticks in my throat . The thought of taptins is barely more appealing . It’s that or nothing .

Sir Johnny has responded:
“If people follow the instructions on the website, it is virtually impossible for mould to form. I know people who have tins of moist snuff in their fridge which is several years old.
I have never had mould in any of the maturing bins.”
I suppose that is the final word.
As you know, SWS is a hand-made artisan snuff. Since taking on MrSnuff, Kay has yet to receive a report of a mouldy tin, but given the instructions on the tin to keep refrigerated, I have to concede that I was wrong to dismiss it as a possibility.
I think, if I examine myself, what I was reacting against was the narrative, present company excluded, that SWS should be avoided due to mould issues.
This I interpreted as part of the general, now fading, meta-narrative that MrSnuff sold out-of-date stock. It may have been true, but, with effort, it is not now.
I can see now that I was being oversensitive and reached for my cudgels too soon.
But SWS is, in my opinion, worth defending because we don’t have enough snuff makers left to allow his lack of industrial processing to stand against him.
