Just dug into this one for the second time last night. Got a 5g in a sampler pack back this spring from Mr Snuff. I was completely turned off at the time and put it back in storage with the tape on. Going through my WoS again, and now having a much greater appreciation for them and the delicate differences between what at first seemed awfully similar snuffs, I’m really impressed by the Jockey Club. It’s of a similar vein as F&T(WoS’ premium brand)'s Seville or Macouba (neither of which I’ve really taken to yet). But in my humble and still-much-to-learn opinion of aromas my taste finds Jockey Club superior. There is a Strong abundance of aroma. Pushing the envelope in strength of smell. The composition of aromas I feel is well blended, not clashing. I find the scent very similar to premium brand soap. When I started snuff that description and enjoyment I thought would be an absurd combination But I find it very pleasant and was thinking in bed last night that I’m going to enjoy the scents and subtle differences of scented soaps from here on, Ha! The grind I’m inclined to say is finer than most other WoS but the low moisture content could be at play. The aroma is bold upfront but softly shades into a long lasting subtlety, a contradiction I find in WoS Royal George too. It’s a really pleasant snuff. If you are open to floral snuffs it’s worth a try. And I’m enjoying the 5g tin not a 25g so it may be even better in that form. It makes me happy
I’ll regret it if I forget to add another tin to my next snuff order
@ar47 Sounds promising. I haven’t tried Macouba and WoS JC, but enjoyed Seville. F&T French Carotte doesn’t lack soapiness, too. It’s like a mix of Bordeaux and Seville, both colour and scent-wise. Grind and moisture is akin to Bordeaux.
I wonder what colour and grind is WoS Jockey Club? Same as Seville?
Hey @volunge here’s a picture of the two, gently spooned out. Card stock is white but the light is warm
JC lacks the bright pungent “baby powder” component of Seville and the musky component of F&T Macouba.
They all smell to me a bit like a girl’s bathroom. Seville smells like a 7 month old’s bathroom. JC smells like a 37 year old’s bathroom. Macouba smells like an 87 year old’s bathroom. I’ll take the middle one thank you
Thanks @ar47! I’m adding JC in my ‘must-try’ list. Love that darker WoS base.
The aroma has some serious staying power. Blow your nose a few hours later and Hey, Jockey Club! For what it’s worth my wife says she hates this snuff, but she also doesn’t like Rows of Sharrow. I really enjoy both the RoS and the WoS JC and I know @volunge you appreciate the rose too.
@ar47, I agree that Jockey Club and F&T Macouba are very similar. I think Jockey Club has the stronger sent of flowers and it last in the nose longer than Macouba. My husband’s first description was it smelled like a men’s locker room after everyone put on cologne. He doesn’t care for it, but I like the floral smell that comes later.
@KayeC do you have Toque *USA* ( USA and non USA are quite different) Whiskey and Honey? My latest discovery is ~1:1 Toque USA W&H : WoS Jockey Club and whoooooeie!
Just tried JC and… fell in love at first pinch
Now I terribly regret ordering the smallest tin, definitely will shoot for 25 g next time!
There’s something very, very familiar in JC. Rose, neroli, sandal, musk? Really spicy this one! And yes, reminds both Seville and Rose of Sharrow. I even got a small flashback of Poschl Packard’s Club here as well. Thanks for recommending this, @ar47! JC makes me happy, too.
@volunge I’m happy you’re happy I similarly need to pick up a larger tin - I’ve been saving what little I have left for a rainy day and keep forgetting to order more. Thanks for bringing it top of mind. You mentioned Packard’s Club, do you have some on hand? I find they compliment each other very well. Throw some Jaxon Club Special in there and you have Club Mix! (layered or mixed in this order/proportion) 3:2:1 Poschl:Jaxon:WoS. Even @SammyD13 was a fan, and he’s a snuffing man’s man!
