a few overviews and initial thoughts on my new WoS stash

J

Hi all, I went on a buying spree at my local B&M snuff store yesterday as I previously mentioned, and picked up six WoS creations that I hadn’t previously tried. I thought I’d share my initial impressions, for anyone who might like to have a read: Brunswick - being a big Best Dark fan, this snuff was recommended to me on this very forum, and I’m pleased to say the recommendation was spot on…it’s very similar to Best Dark but with a soaring citrus note over the leathery dark tobacco base. Very moreish and delicious. I’m about to have a pinch as I type, as it happens. Jockey Club - this is one of very few snuffs I’ve tried that I found overbearing to the point of offensiveness. Way too floral and cloying for my tastes, I felt like I’d just ground up the contents of an elderly lady’s underwear drawer, cut it 70/30 with some baby powder and taken a pinch-maybe I’m not used to it and it’ll grow on me, but I’ll probably save this for when I want a pinch of something distracting before I change one of my daughter’s nappies… Strasbourg - now THIS is more like it…a fine ground, medium-dry base similar to Grand Cairo, but with a complex, dense mesh of flavours, spicy notes combining with a vaguely Christmassy cinnamon/nutmeg haze. I’ve got a noseful at the moment, very enjoyable indeed. Irish Dry High Toast #20 - I love this. I can imagine this becoming an all-dayer, very light and alluring flavour, not really a toast in the classic sense, but very enjoyable. Fine, again, and fairly dry, with a lightly toasted tobacco base. I’d describe this as the inspired midpoint betwixt a straight toast and an SP. Top drawer stuff. Burgundy - this is often compared to Best Dark, but the batch I got was lighter by some way, and a lot more floral, almost in the Jockey Club region but made somewhat more palatable by the rather darker base tobacco. This is definitely an occasional pinch rather than an all-dayer, but I should imagine when you take it without taking JC first (which seems to dominate everything you snuff for the rest of the day), it’s quite nice. Kendal Brown - I know this isn’t the classic Kendal Brown, but it’s quite pleasant in its own way-nothing mindblowing, just a medium-dark floral in the same vein as Burgundy, but with a bit less shrubbery and a bit more earthiness. I pocketed it as my ‘morning out’ snuff when I took my daughter into town today, but only took a couple of pinches…it wasn’t moreish in the slightest, as the scent lasted a very long time-this is probably a good snuff to take out if you’re not going to find many opportunities to partake-you won’t be jonesing for it in the same way as, say, Best Dark (if you share my taste in snuff!) If a tin of that was nestling in your pocket…

Irish Dry High Toast #20 has been my daily snuff for the past month. My only knock of the snuff is that it dries out quick in my daily, nasal snuff heart box. I, too, did not care for Jockey Club. It has been years since I had it, but it had that in your face, fake tasting tobacco flavor that I am not fond of.

@minux, “in your face and fake” is a good way to describe how I felt about Jockey Club on first pinch. IDHT #20 seems rather dry anyway, I can imagine how it’d dry out more if transferred to a box…all the more reason to hoover it up quickly!

Hehe, good ol’ WoS Jockey Club… Personally I like it, although I understand why some people don’t! Give it a few more tries, and it may grow on you? I find it quite relaxing and comforting… maybe it’s the ‘baby powder’ element, regressing me to some sort of infant state, or some such psychological bullshine?!

Yeah for me F&T HDT is where its at.

J

@vathek @itsmajick I need some more F&T joy in my life, so I’ll add their HDT to my next order of Santo Domingo, I have no doubt it’s excellent-Old Paris is one of my absolute staples. @sloth I will persevere with JC, but I really disliked it on first sniff…I’m not one to give up on something though so will try again tomorrow!
