That sound really good! Perhaps I’ll dig out a pipe or two this weekend. Sadly, taking up snuff in earnest made me lose most all desire to smoke. I do think I have a fresh tin of Navy Flake (it might be Dunhill Flake, I like them both) squirreled away, and some others jarred up. I like to burn flakes in my little 'meer. My full-bent Peterson is a little big.

Loading some G, H & Co Dark Plug, just ran some through the blender, got tired of cutting this plug, it is one solid plug! Blender works good hope it smokes well.

I’ve had a few bowls this morning while I pay some bills and debate going to the pipe show.

All in unnamed cheap pipes.
Started with an unfinished bowl of Granger from late last night and moved on to a couple OGS and a Sutliff Rum & Maple.

New to pipe smoking but got a few cheap codger blends, Captain Black and Sir Walter Raleigh. I like the SWR better, but really want to try some better stuff!

I used to smoke Captain Black in a cob, I’d never burn a gooper like that in a good pipe (ghost you’ll never get out). As you progress, try some Navy Flake, Dunhill Flake or similar, I think you’ll like them. I rather prefer a small pipe for flake, but you can use anything.

I love a cobb and have several of the Mac Arthur variations.

That’s a huge pipe! I never got one. IIRC, both of mine are Country Gentlemen that I fitted with “Forever” stems. They do smoke nice and dry out fast. IDK how many cans of Carter Hall I’ve burned in them.

I’ve only got one briar pipe from my dad so far. I’m already craving something different. I can tolerate SWR but the Captain…sucks. It already makes me wanna throw up. Now I know good tobacco so I know it’s just sh**

I got some Lane 1-Q too but knocked over my mason jar in the garage and had to bin it because of the glass break :frowning: There’s a nice pipe shop about 30 minutes away…trouble is convincing the GF to let me go

If you want something fairly good, that’s not heavily dressed, try Carter Hall. Burns nicely, good flavor and doesn’t leave much of a ghost. I find that folks in the vicinity like the smell of CB (or I suppose any aromatic pipe tobacco), but it gets old pretty fast for me. Not that I smoke much anymore, but I’d pretty much gone exclusively to flake tobacco before I discovered snuff and lost interest in my pipes.

Yeah, but it looks great with a pair of Ray-Ban shooting glasses!

I want to try Carter Hall but they only had the big tubs and I was waiting for finding the smaller boxes. I went by the smoke shop and got some more Lane bulk blends, the RLP-6 is a superior Captain Black without the propylene glycol and chemicals, and uses higher grades of tobacco (and casing, I presume) it’s missing the chemical funk of the Captain that I dislike. Also got their Cavendish, very smooth good smoke. They had a Stokkebye Vanilla Creme in the bag I nabbed an oz of too. So far I’m enjoying piping quite a bit!

I’ve got a bunch of empty tubs kicking around, CH was my favorite “cheap” tobacco. I recall quite liking Mac Baron’s Vanilla Creme. They make some awesome flake pipe tobaccos as well.

Today I picked up some pouches of Carter Hall and Half and Half. Enjoying them both, the Carter has a very light flavor and is on the drier side, I’d think I may use this more for a mixer with some cavendish or Lane bulk 1-Q or RLP-6.

The Half and Half is a wonderful surprise, sooo much flavor compared to say, Sir Walter Raleigh which is also one of my codger favorites. I’m shocked at the consistency of flavor.

A bowl packed with Kendal Flake (made by Gawith Hoggart) just now. I am about to finish my first tin of this tobacco, which I find both floral and earthly in flavor.

Today I have tried out Cellini. Like it so far.

GLP Fillmore in a Pete system 305

Recently found a bunch of C&D and GLP tins from 2011 hidden away in my cellar. The tin of Haddo’s didnt last long at all. 10+ year old Haddo’s is unbelievably delicious I have never had a blend that reeked so much of ripe Va. Before that tin was half done I ordered a 16oz tin opened it up to jar it only to discover fresh Haddos has almost no ripe Va smell at all, Haddo’s must be aged before it gets amazing.

I’m not touching it for at least 10 years because I know how amazing it is when its 10 yo. I’m going to get another 16oz of Haddo’s and age it for 25 years, I’m going to be retired sitting on my porch smoking 25 yo Haddo’s Delight
